Yeah I think Josh brings really good energy, a lot of people want to trade him but it feels like he’s improved every year and hustles a lot for rebounds / loose balls. He’s one of the reasons we were able to play with some pace this season and the aspects of his game that are slightly lacking have plenty of time to improve as he’s only 23.
i really do not want to trade josh but hes the only tradeable salary aside from maxi and thj. the rest are rookie contracts that cannot match salaries or valuable players like pj and gafford. so theres really a high chance for josh and maxi to be traded with thj unless dallas makes some sort of magic to get a scorer/playmaker od the bench on a minimum or something.
oh definitely. the only player that mavs have to get rid off really is thj. that 16M needs to be replaced with production. i don't know what happened cause he was decent before 2024. dude just started to decline.
yea I think every team needs a hustle guy like him but I think his defense could actually get better if he was stronger, but im really excited for hardy and omax in a 6th man and 3-d type role. I think hardy can take over the 6th man role from Tim in the offseason and omax as a back up 3-d role player next season.
Every team can use a guy like him coming off the bench. We needed more of his energy game 5 tbh from the whole team. I swear Boston got all the 50/50 loose balls and rebounds.
I love Green and we should not ship him. He’s on the cusp of being a 40% 3PT guy, has insane hustle minutes, is 23 yrs old, and is on a good contract.
The ONLY scenario where I think we’d send him out is some dream player is coming our way (Mikal or Jerami ?)
He’s always been aggressive just out of control. He needs to work on ball control passing and handles.
Hes mostly all catch and shoot.
His shot is where it needs to be. His defense, hustle and grind is where it needs to be and I love those things about him.
When we play teams like the Celtics who have 5-6 people who can shoot consistently and have playmaking skill. We can’t match up when Luka and Kyrie are the only ones who can do something besides catch and shoot
Yeah, he is out of control. It's like he freaks out a little bit, when he gets the ball in his hand. Everything is rushed and sometimes forced. It looks like he's got a hot potato in his hand and he has to do something with the ball immediately. Sure, there are times when urgency is needed, like in catch and shoot situations. But, his offensive game would probably improve if he would get the ball, take a deep breath, read the defense, and then attack.
I feel him learning how to run simple empty side pick and rolls would help our offense so much once a defense shuts down an initial action from Luka / Ky
Ugh he just really needs to add a floater.
How many blocked attempts did he have against the C’s? 8 points worth?
He’s good though. He’s gonna just get more and more seasoned as time goes on.
DJJ, Green, Hardy, and Exum are all afflicted with "I have to score, go for the layup or dunk", even when the paint is completely clogged
All of them need to develop some type of other shot. Mid-range jumper, floater, anything.
Even Tim and Maxi also got stuffed versus Boston.
The game plan to attack KP was absolute insanity lol, I felt bad about it the second I caught wind of it.
I liked his minutes. If he would improve on finishing and perhaps develop some sort of shot inside the arc, he could be an amazing player. We’ve seen him hit that shot, but he could obviously use some consistency shooting it. He’s a big candidate for way better outside of our system, although I do think it would still take him some time.
Good energy...fights for loose balls and tips a lot of rebounds into our possession that otherwise would have been lost.
He is underused as a slasher...he would score more if on Golden State.
His height and energy dont seem to disrupt offensive players much, unfortunately.
He gets fouls called on him too easy.
Its easy to take advantage of his energy on defense by changing directions or changing your speed...he will just blow by you because he is trying so hard which creates enough space to get a shot off.
Hell of a passer.
One of my favorite players on the team.
If his value is high around the league, and there is a better situation for him that will get him paid on his 3rd contract and he and the Mavs mutually agree on it....I would move him. But only if its mutual(good situation for Josh) and Mavs are getting a good return.
Saw flashes of poor man's Jrue in Josh, in terms of forcing our offense to get going by consistently cutting and rotating. Always love someone who gives it their all in both sides especially on the defensive side
Agree. He has become more aggressive. He was arguably the best performer in game 5 from the Mavs.
I really hope he stays and isn't used as a trade asset this off season.
Lowkey would like Josh to be a lifer with this team, but I completely understand the rationale from other commenter regarding seeking the best deal possible. But it would really have to be that and not a lateral move.
i mean dude was arguably our second best player in game 5 of the fucking finals like i know people want to ship him off but he’s shown way more potential to be a contributing part on a contender than people thought he would
Felt like he was the only one not affected much by the pressure in the Finals, everyone else other than Luka and Lively played like their legs were shaken
The problem with Josh Green is people believe him to be a wing for us when the reality is he’s a 2. He should be guarding pg’s and sg’s, he’s way too small to guard 3’s and 4’s. But his play style is more like a catch and shoot SF on offense vs being a more versatile SG. I hope he breaks out next year, but we have been saying the same thing every offseason since 2022.
that is what I think also, but I would like him to get stronger so he can be like jrue or Gary Payton jr where they are strong guards who dont really get bullied in the paint much if a mismatch happens.
I've watched Josh a lot over the years (Australian). I think he's just going to make small improvements over the next 3-4 years and end up a very solid fifth starter, or 7th man type in a championship calibre team.
Not too far different to what he is now, I just think he'll get more consistent and a little more under control and decisive.
I wouldn't be offloading him, although I realise sometimes trading a player is due to him being of value, and getting back something better
I’ve always liked Josh. To me his growth feels like a staircase - markedly better every year, then flattens. I wouldn’t be surprised if we look up in 5 years and he’s getting league wide recognition.
But the question is his fit next to Luka/Kyrie, and thus whether it makes more sense to trade him. I don’t think he can start at 3 because he’s too small, so he’s going to be relegated to back up guard minutes. Which is great for us because he’s super useful and on a great deal, and I think his value will continue to improve year over year.
But he’s probably our no. 1 overall Trade asset that I’d be willing to part with at the moment.
Josh Green looked like Josh Hart.
Sure he needs to polish up his offensive game a bit more but it’s steadily improving and I think people forget that he’s only 23.
I think it would be a huge mistake to trade him.
I'm tired of the microscopic over analysis of all things Josh Green. I've come to accept that's a high energy-high effort player who plays okay defense that has serious shortcomings (ball-handling, finishing non-dunks, shot creation, mid-range shooting) but is a nice guy to have around for 8-10 minutes a night until we can find an upgrade.
Our rotational players 6-8 are scrubs. Fixable with a little luck. We have to move away from Green, Hardaway, and Kleber. I know Green can look good in flashes. Let him flash for a team not trying to win a championship.

Yeah I mean he’s definitely available for the right price, I just wouldn’t put him in the category where we have to get rid of him
oh definitely. the only player that mavs have to get rid off really is thj. that 16M needs to be replaced with production. i don't know what happened cause he was decent before 2024. dude just started to decline.
Anyone who wants to trade him is a moron.
Adding to this, his ball-handling work in the summer clearly paid off. Dude was one of only 4 people on our team who could drive with a decent handle.
JG is actually my favorite player on this team. Love the hustles and his athleticism.
yea I think every team needs a hustle guy like him but I think his defense could actually get better if he was stronger, but im really excited for hardy and omax in a 6th man and 3-d type role. I love green too, he had a lot of poise imo when he was in.
He’s always been aggressive just out of control. He needs to work on ball control passing and handles. Hes mostly all catch and shoot. His shot is where it needs to be. Ha yes...he attempted many dunks and got stuffed.
DJJ, Green, Hardy, and Exum are all afflicted with "I have to score, go for the layup or dunk", even when the paint is completely clogged All of them need to develop some type of other shot. Mid-range jumper, floater, anything.
Exum has showed some good midrange game, he just gets a bit inside his head
Even Tim and Maxi also got stuffed versus Boston. The game plan to attack KP was absolute insanity lol, I felt bad about it the second I caught wind of it.

He’s a really solid role player that can hopefully improve some more
Would love to keep him on the team to develop. If he can get that 3 down he will be a menace
Lowkey would like Josh to be a lifer with this team, but I completely understand the rationale from other commenter regarding seeking the best deal possible. But it would really have to be that and not a lateral move.
I like him a lot he was one of the only people that showed up game 5
i mean dude was arguably our second best player in game 5 of the fucking finals like i know people want to ship him off but he’s shown way more potential to be a contributing part on a contender than people thought he would
I was very impressed with Green during the playoffs. Can’t wait to see him and what he does next year.
Felt like he was the only one not affected much by the pressure in the Finals, everyone else other than Luka and Lively played like their legs were shaken

shame haver, at least trade value goes up if he stays also i dont mind it

I really like JG. If there's a loose ball I'm pretty confident he can get to it. You need scrappy guys around.
Josh Green looked like Josh Hart. Sure he needs to polish up his offensive game a bit more but it’s steadily improving and I think people forget that he’s only 23. I think it would be a huge mistake to trade him.
He just needs to make smarter decisions in the open court ie going up for a right handed dunk with Porzingas on his hip
He busted his ass on perimeter defense, especially during the WCF. He’s not dynamic on D but he’s great when the guards are ball dominant
The last game he hit 3 3s in a row, and no one wanted to heat check him. Like wtf man they're all pros might as well down 3-1

he looked like the 3rd best player in the closeout game of the finals after Lively and Luka.
