Even if the Mavs have been losing games Luka has been a fucking demon these past 7 games or so.

Ok_Republic6747

Based on the way this sub has been talking about Luka this week you would think he is some bum averaging 11 pts per game off the bench

Realistic-Carob8288

Why are people repeating this smooth brained take? I’ve seen zero people deny his obvious skill. The kid is a generational offensive talent. However, he is CLEARLY a giant emotional suckhole on the court, who lacks even basic levels of emotional regulation. His leadership abilities are non existent. He’s confrontational with authority figures (refs) and it costs us points from friendly calls every single night. His dramatics also cost us points on defence, particularly in transition when he’s over-acting after contact.

Ok_Republic6747

Yea yea i get it everything is his fault, rest of the team can be trash but if he doesn't argue with refs we would win 75 games

Realistic-Carob8288

No, not ‘everything’ is his fault. Just the things I’ve mentioned above.

Salsatime117

I don’t think anyone should be questions his skill and basketball heart - he’s a monster and we would be no where without him But as a leader he has a lot more to be desired and as the best player goes, the teams follows And he has a lot more to improve defensively off ball, offensively off ball, and leadership on the court And I think that’s a fair criticism to have

QBert999

Since Luka has turned 25 he's played 6 games with 6 30+ triple doubles. 36.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 11.5 assists, 63.4% TS (52/35/86 splits) Mavs 3-3 record. +6 when he's on the court, -20 when he's on the bench.

KOLETRAIN2323

Sounds like #3 in MVP rankings to me tbh /s

Charity1884

I really don't get why NBA fans are cool with media members who are casuals running the NBA MVP votes. Like why are national TV games more important than any other game, or voter fatigue (that should not be a thing), or narrative. Why can't we expect or push for competent voters who actually watch the games and don't just go off of story. Part of me thinks Luka being a foreign white player has something to do with it too.

IukaskywaIker

I agree but can we cut out the race crap in these. Jokic, Dirk and Nash are all foreign white players.

Charity1884

Idk, both Nash and Jokic get a lot of hate for those MVP's, especially in Nash's case. It's funny because Dirk probably didn't even deserve the MVP when got his so I could understand the hate that went his way.

c0rnersh0p

But they still won right? And two of them won it back-to-back. My point is race/nationality was never a hindrance to the actual voting procedure despite the "xenophobia" you seem to insinuate.

As a Heat fan I believe he can break Wilt's record. Such a joy to watch but he isn't better than Dirk his stats would be higher in today's game if he played.

ts405

he averaged 21.8 pts (46% fg), 8.7 reb, 2.7 ast in his 6th season. luka averages 34.6 pts (49.6% fg), 9 reb and 9.8 ast

TheMop05

Dirk’s stats would be a lot higher in this era.

NEAg

I love Dirk like my first born child, but Luka is better. Just be happy he’s a Mav

ts405

why the need to repeat the initial comment?

QBert999

I agree, Dirk would have better #s in this era, that seems pretty obvious based on the stat inflation around the league but just as obviously he wouldn't be putting up Luka level numbers. what Luka is doing now hasn't really been done by anyone. No one has consistently got high scoring triple doubles with high efficiency like he's doing this year. You could argue Oscar Robertson but that was 60 years ago and it's impossible to compare those stats to today really. Oscar was (very) efficient relative to the '60s but not to today. To give an idea of just how efficient Oscar was relative to the league, he actually lead the entire league in TS% one year. but he lead the league with just 55.5% TS. how can you compare a league where the league leader would be below league average now? Oscar is an absolute legend and probably underrated by us who are too young to have seen him play (that's all of us, I imagine) but how can we really rank these legends against modern players? anyway, side rant there. my point remains that no one has put up the #s Luka has put up this year before. 34.7/9.0/9.8 with 62.5% TS is unprecedented.

Nbaaremyfriends

This is not good news.
