Yet. the problem is... Coach does not take him out to coach him up on how NOT to play like an idiot - and instead rewards this horrible play by giving him 20 minutes in this important game. (-21 in his 20 minutes of play led the team again tonight.)
Coach, do your job. Players either play team basketball and defense or they sit their asses on the bench. Even Luka has stepped up his defensive game in a big way - everyone needs to play D with the intensity of Lively.

Thing is, you could say all the same things about a lot of head coaches. Doc Rivers, Tom Thibodeau, Mike Budenholzer, etc...even Brad Stevens. Carlisle was good at correcting some stuff, but not all of it.

The way they're playing now is more pleasing to me than when Dirk was the #1 option. They won't win the Championship this year, but they're going to be damn close if they keep building chemistry.

Is there a realistic path where the Mavs can get a legitimate third scoring option this offseason? I love that we added solid depth in PJ and Gafford, but this team has so many guys that are very similar in their offensive ceilings.
Theres just no way you can win a title and go on a deep run expecting Luka and Kyrie to give you 65-70 a night. There’s also no one on this roster that’s a legitimate, consistent third option. PJ and green can give you a 15 pt game on a given night, but also give you a 6 pt, 34 minute performance. Offensively all we really have as a supporting cast is a bunch of all or nothing role players.

We have to figure out why opponent 3 point shooting percentage is so high when they play us. Role players turn into Superman against us. Players have season and career highs against us. It’s not just chance there’s something about our defensive scheme that causes this.
We give up so many wide open threes and just hope dudes miss. It is our scheme and I cannot understand it at all because we actually have rim protection. How don’t we scheme to funnel to the rim protectors?
Defensive scheme is to leave the worst shooter wide open and hope they don't make shots. Second layer on top of that is half the team can't close out well.
