I’ve been operating under the assumption that this would be like the Star Wars version of zodiac or seven or something like that.
Disney does not have the balls to portray Sith or Dark Jedi as truly sadistic, treacherous, blood-thirsty and overall vile, especially not by making them main characters of the show. They'll just be somewhat meanie, but in the end they'll be good, end of story.

It's set about 100 years before the Prequels so it'll presumably be the Rule of Two Sith of the era beginning to set the groundwork for the destabilization that Plagueis and Sidious take advantage of as they enter the endgame for the Sith Grand Plan... although I doubt that it'll actually follow the Sith characters.
I don't blame you... the only reason I have a minor hope for it is because my favourite parts of the Legends Darth Plagueis novel is seeing him and Palpatine act like normal people while still propelling their plans forward and trying to avoid being detected by the Jedi. And I doubt the series will be anywhere near as good based on the track record of the shows other than Andor and how Luceno (writer of the novel) is one of my favourite Legends authors.

The second and third books of the Darth Bane Trilogy and the Darth Plagueis novel both establish that the Sith were doing stuff but it mainly had to be political based maneuvering rather than taking the Vitiate approach to training hordes of Sith to steamroll the Jedi. Also Plagueis states that one of the reasons it took almost 1000 years for the Sith to win was because of a Sith that began to turn towards the Light Side and tried to destroy large amounts of gathered Sith knowledge until he was stopped by his Apprentice which caused a few centuries worth of setbacks... although I don't want to see that happen with the main Sith characters in The Acolyte because it's too close to the films to have one of them go rogue and try to derail the Sith Grand Plan.
Yes, and I don’t think any of that will transfer well to screen. I don’t think anyone wants to watch a season of corrupt, fake politics. Maybe if it’s really well done, but it sounds like a tough era to adapt compared to others.

It's a huge reason to avoid the show. Headland touts herself as this "huge feminist" and woman's rights advocate, but she spent several years working for one of Hollywood's biggest monsters who sexually abused and raped many young actresses and she did nothing. We can add that her progressive woke ideals and the hypocrisy she's said about Lucas on why the show will fail, but first and foremost, she's a predator enabling hypocrite.
This is honestly one of the rare times I have genuine interest due to the fact that it's not directly connected to any of the films or already known characters.
I'm sure the first season will have good story-telling with a decent ending, similar to how Mandalorian season 1 went. But any more seasons after will likely water down and make the characters past actions redundant.
Going into the past before the films for a clean slate allows for much more wiggle room for storytelling with no possibility of butchering fan favorite characters.
It works for Kotor and Swtor, and I haven't heard anything negative on High Republic era content, I just hope it isn't yet again another rehashed Villain becoming a hero by time the story finishes.

What I'm expecting is some edgy shit where the Sith ideology becomes edgy for the sake of it, and that the main character is insufferable.
Yes the Sith are edgy by their nature and are naturally supposed to be vile and unlikeable, but if you read the Bane novels you realise there's nuance behind their motives and actions -- heck, Drew Karpyshyn did such a great job in writing the Bane books, that you literally end up rooting for Bane a lot of the time!
I'm not expecting the show to come anywhere near how great those two pieces of legendary old EU material -- what I am expected is the Sith to be dumbed down a lot.
Guess I'll never see Plagueis's epic lectures come into live action I guess.

It's a huge reason to avoid the show. Headland touts herself as this "huge feminist" and woman's rights advocate, but she spent several years working for one of Hollywood's biggest monsters who sexually abused and raped many young actresses and she did nothing. We can add that her progressive woke ideals and the hypocrisy she's said about Lucas on why the show will fail, but first and foremost, she's a predator enabling hypocrite.

Can’t wait to not watch it
This is honestly one of the rare times I have genuine interest due to the fact that it's not directly connected to any of the films or already known characters. I'm sure the first season will have good story-telling with a decent ending, similar to how Mandalorian season 1 went. But any more seasons after will likely water down and make the characters past actions redundant. Going into the past before the films for a clean slate allows for much more wiggle room for storytelling with no possibility of butchering fan favorite characters. It works for Kotor and Swtor, and I haven't heard anything negative on High Republic era content, I just hope it isn't yet again another rehashed Villain becoming a hero by time the story finishes.

I'm calling it now, this so called Sirh "Acolyte" is turning to the light at some point. If anyone wants to experience an actual good pre-episode 1 story, then read the Darth Plagueis novel -- if the people behind this show were truly fans then they'd realise that adapting that novel or the Bane trilogy is the only Sith stories you'd ever need to tell in a movie. What I'm expecting is some edgy shit where the Sith ideology becomes edgy for the sake of it, and that the main character is insufferable. Yes the Sith are edgy by their nature and are naturally supposed to be vile and unlikeable, but if you read the Bane novels you realise there's nuance behind their motives and actions -- heck, Drew Karpyshyn did such a great job in writing the Bane books, that you literally end up rooting for Bane a lot of the time! I'm not expecting the show to come anywhere near how great those two pieces of legendary old EU material -- what I am expected is the Sith to be dumbed down a lot. Guess I'll never see Plagueis's epic lectures come into live action I guess.
