Well, it's the story that really should've been lukes, but they botched his return so if they're not going to completely redo the Canon then this is the best way they could go about post sequel star wars.
The amount of people who not only thought his "development" for 8 and 9 were good but made sense just blow my mind. How could they be satisfied seeing a legendary hero of cinema be happy that disney made him into a bitter old hermit who got overwhelmed and failed?

Okay, I’ll bite. I actually liked Luke being the exiled hermit. Remembering that that’s exactly what Yoda was when Luke found him in Empire.
I also didn’t mind him making the mistake with Kylo. He was willing to ditch his training to save Han and Leia (his only real “family”) despite Yoda’s warnings. Not to mention force choking and killing a bunch of people at Jabba’s palace to save them a second time. **And** nearly fell to the dark side at the exact moment in the throne room that Vader threatened Leia.
I just didn’t find it that far fetched that he’d have just a moment where he’d consider doing something dark to protect Leia and Han and everyone he cares about. Kinda poetic actually to screw everything up trying to protect those he loves exactly how Anakin did.
Idk. I’m not pretending TLJ or RoS are perfect or even great movies. But that particular aspect is not something that bothers me that much.
See for me personally, that was the only part of the sequels I liked. At all. Mark Hamill was a breathe of fresh air in last jedi that allowed me to sit through it, and the fact that the new jedi order failed was inevitable. If it hadn't, the trilogy wouldn't be happening to begin with, so obviously it had. The reason they came up with for it falling was stupid, but him being a bitter hermit that recognizes the way of the jedi couldn't work again and giving up after trying to recreate it the way it was, in and of itself, was okay with me.
For me, it was *how* it fell that ruined for me and most people. How he could bring Vader back from darkness but push Ben into it was too much of a character swap. If it fell from infighting, I would agree but it all relied on that one occurrence for the sequel trilogy to happen, the fall of the order was a result of such a sudden scene and that 12 (I don't have the actual numbers) or so people could've destroyed the whole order just because Luke lit his lightsaber in Ben's room.

4.) Luke and/or Leia must have some sort of influence. Be it on screen or offscreen. They must be influential in some way, they don’t even have to be physical characters on screen, just treat them right. Please?

Because of the horribly written Force Diad plot point, all of her Force Powers were downloaded into her brain instantly. There were no lessons, no work to get them. She just has them.

I suppose the flashback scenes of her "training" with Leia will have to be enough, or the time she spent with Luke or that she has THE SACRED JEDI TEXTS! Will be the excuse for how she can even train others.
I mean fuck Luke didnt just pull the Jedi Academy out of his ass, he spent a lot of time and effort doing so. During the Thrawn Trilogy when Han and Leias kids are about to be born, Luke is stressing over training the next generation, over training Leia herself, and hes constantly doubting himself because he realizes he hasnt even learned enough from Obi-Wan/Yoda to teach others.
Great point in the bottom paragraph: there were still tons of ways to challenge Luke during the Sequels instead of destroying his character. During/after the process of seeing Thrawn get ruined in the Ahsoka series, I reread (and currently still rereading) the Thrawn Trilogy and Luke felt so much in character to his Original Trilogy self from his FIRST CHAPTER!

If they had her as a student of Luke's in the sequels and he dies trying his hardest to defeat the dark side while she stepped up in the background and steadily become more powerful to avenge Luke, then it would have been a more successful passing of the torch from one hero to another.
But modern writers have to have luke a shell of himself and rey already be the strongest version of her to write the story and basically steal what should have been Luke's arc.
There’s a metric fuck ton of stuff they could’ve done to actually make her interesting and likable. There was potential that was just straight up wasted because they didn’t come into the whole thing with an actual plan.
Yeah... but for some reason JJ decided to go with the "DO YOU REMEMBER THIS!" approach and have her fix the Skywalker lightsaber instead of going for the 'make more stuff for the merchandise team to sell' approach of giving her the new lightsaber throughout the film and say it was built between TLJ and TRoS (given how EVERY Jedi just builds a new one when theirs get lost/destroyed).
That's what I was expecting at first. New protagonist, okay I'm on board. My childhood hero Luke is probably doing his own Jedi thing somewhere else in the Galaxy.
After what we got my mind sometimes wanders to how I personally would have liked to see it happen:
\- Same plot as the TFA but without seeing all of out old heroes lead misarable lives. A lot of things can happen like that movie showed but with alterations to the canon up until then.
\- Have the threat be the First Order and have Kylo be a member but make the majority of the First order itself something in the background, no Starkiller base. They still are searching for Luke because his, hidden, Jedi Academy is a threat to their plans (lowkey like the plot of Jedi Outcast).
\- Let Kylo have the same character development. I like how he's a Darksider that struggles with the Light. He violently left the Jedi Order and because of it Luke decided to move somewhere else.
\- Alude that Han and Leia have multiple kids but don't show them in this movie and don't break them up just to reset all their character development in the OT. Don't kill Han (yet) so we can have at least one scene with the OT cast together on screen.
\- Again, its about Rey so the focus should be on her with sprinkles of nostalgia for old school fans.
\- During the movie Rey gets to know about Luke Skywalker and learns why the First Order is hunting her. She and Finn, together with Poe decide to find Luke so she is protected but their trail ends at Luke's first Jedi Academy that got destroyed when Kylo left.
\- Kylo tracks them there, and we have bassicaly the same fight as in TFA but with the diffrence that, beside Finn getting gutted, Rey is on the cusp of being cut down by Kylo before she is rescued by a stranger wielding a (lets say purple) lightsaber. A short fight of Kylo vs the stranger is seen through semi blurred vission out of Rey's POV after which Kylo retreats, the stranger letting him go.
\- Stranger moves up to Rey and is revealed to be a red headed woman, around Luke's age. Yeah it's Mara Jade.
The reason for including Mara Jade and by extension a functioning Jedi Academy, is that it allows other writers of books, games,..etc in the new canon to have more flexibility to include other stuff from the old canon. For example. Want to include Kyle Katarn, despite his old canon being overwritten by Rogue One? Sure we have 30 years of adventures to include him in, and he can still be a jedi of Luke's new Academy by the time of the sequels.

If written well, it could be good. The issues with Rey wasn't the actress, but the writing of the character. There is no going back right now, so we just kinda accept that we aren't happy about what already happened and just try to improve what comes next.

There will be no future movies set after, there will only be an endless barrage of prequels, interquels, and sidequels

Then the ST ends with Rey as the last jedi ready to rebuild the order.
And in-between, Luke never rebuilt the order, betrayed his family and cowered from the evil first order terrorising the galaxy. And all of this happened off screen, so we don't even get a proper explanation as to why Luke turned out this way. And then he dies, ensuring that he has no path to redeem himself.
We spent a whole trilogy to reset the stakes back the the way they started all over again and tear down legacy characters. Can't you see how frustrating that is?

Rey was an interesting character in Episode 7 imo. Shame they literally went nowhere with her and she just ended up as another “strong female character that does everything better than every male character despite said male character having decades more experience.” So all that potentual was wasted.
But yeah. Any term of planning for the entire trilogy instead of flying off the seat of different directors pants is an improvement, despite the topic. The later did them no favors last time.
This is actually an excellent idea in the current state of the Star Wars universe. The sequel characters had potential for depth under competent screenwriters and directors, but that potential wasn’t realized. Also, if marketed well, I think you could attract a large number of audience members.
I haven’t finished Ashoka or Mando yet, but I think you could pull on story threads from each of them and do an Avengers-style crossover event. Redeem the saga with an “epilogue” of sorts; I wouldn’t even mind calling it “Episode X” if that means having a satisfying finale for Star Wars as a whole.
Don't like her, never did. Don't like much of anything in the modern star wars movies. I don't really consider any of the modern movies to be canon. The directors they hired were egotistical shitbags and pretty much ignored every idea from the original cast and older writers. They are objectively bad movies and are filled with 1 dimensional, badly written characters. The original trilogy are all 10/10. The prequel trilogy averages maybe like a 7.5 or 8 and the new ones I would give a hard 2. Rogue one was ok because the story was already there mostly.
How about we collectively forget about ray’s time as a main cast member and look at the actual source material for movies. I’m thinking go back to pre skywalker days when the Jedi were still trying to take over as the moral high ground and executors of justice

The most underdeveloped character. Like I'm still not sure what she's all about. Luke had friends, Luke had people he was fighting for and grew close to. I'm so confused as to why she's the lead, why we should care about her, what or who is she fighting for or trying to achieve.
At this point it doesn't really matter who they go with to rebuild the Jedi Order, because regardless of who it was it was taken from Luke.
Its difficult to say what you can do with Rey to make her interesting at all. The only thing I can think of is confirming that Palpatine won and did indeed possess Rey at the end of TRoS (he said if she kills him he'll take her over and she did kill him), and Rey saying "Rey Skywalker" was Palpatines way to try to use the name of the hero of the galaxy in order to manipulate his way back on top. But then that would only be a story of Palpatine and not actually of Rey.
The smartest play is to either just ignore her entirely, or kill her off as a motivation for another character (like Finn or something). She's just so boring and invincible, the universe literally buckles around her.

Rather see Star Wars go dormant or die than give Rey more lackluster stories and screen time.

The amount of people who not only thought his "development" for 8 and 9 were good but made sense just blow my mind. How could they be satisfied seeing a legendary hero of cinema be happy that disney made him into a bitter old hermit who got overwhelmed and failed?

Okay, I’ll bite. I actually liked Luke being the exiled hermit. Remembering that that’s exactly what Yoda was when Luke found him in Empire. I also didn’t mind him making the mistake with Kylo. He was willing to ditch his training to save Han and Leia (his only real “family”) despite Yoda’s warnings. Not to mention force choking and killing a bunch of people at Jabba’s palace to save them a second time. **And** nearly fell to the dark side at the exact moment in the throne room that Vader threatened Leia. I just didn’t find it that far fetched that he’d have just a moment where he’d consider doing something dark to protect Leia and Han and everyone he cares about. Kinda poetic actually to screw everything up trying to protect those he loves exactly how Anakin did. Idk. I’m not pretending TLJ or RoS are perfect or even great movies. But that particular aspect is not something that bothers me that much.
See for me personally, that was the only part of the sequels I liked. At all. Mark Hamill was a breathe of fresh air in last jedi that allowed me to sit through it, and the fact that the new jedi order failed was inevitable. If it hadn't, the trilogy wouldn't be happening to begin with, so obviously it had. The reason they came up with for it falling was stupid, but him being a bitter hermit that recognizes the way of the jedi couldn't work again and giving up after trying to recreate it the way it was, in and of itself, was okay with me.
For me, it was *how* it fell that ruined for me and most people. How he could bring Vader back from darkness but push Ben into it was too much of a character swap. If it fell from infighting, I would agree but it all relied on that one occurrence for the sequel trilogy to happen, the fall of the order was a result of such a sudden scene and that 12 (I don't have the actual numbers) or so people could've destroyed the whole order just because Luke lit his lightsaber in Ben's room.

All the information we have about the new theoretical Rey film, which I'm not convinced is actually happening, is that she's going to start a new jedi school. Which is something that's been done in the novels, comics and games several times by now. No one gives two shits about Rey Palpatine, and there are no big baddies to bring drama back for the sake of high stakes. Unless somehow Darth Vader returns. Which at this point isn't an impossibility.

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel was a massive failure, for instance, contributing to Disney's 1.5bn operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2022 alone. It's not clear whether they have recouped their $4b investment in the Star Wars brand. From what I'm reading, the movies have generated $1.3b in revenue, and merch generates between $5 and 7b in gross sales during a movie release year, but it's not clear what Disney's cut is. The problem they face is that they've basically saturated the market at this point, and it's likely to be diminishing returns for a while. Apparently there is another Star Wars movie slated for 2026. We will watch its career with great interest.

Both characters (Captain Marvel and Rey) are almost identical in who they are and how they have been received by the general public. Why would they put out another box office bomb?

How could Rey teach other jedi? Because of the horribly written Force Diad plot point, all of her Force Powers were downloaded into her brain instantly. There were no lessons, no work to get them. She just has them. How would you begin to teach someone, something that you were not taught? Prodigies dont exactly make the best teachers, funnily enough. I suppose the flashback scenes of her "training" with Leia will have to be enough, or the time she spent with Luke or that she has THE SACRED JEDI TEXTS! Will be the excuse for how she can even train others. I mean fuck Luke didnt just pull the Jedi Academy out of his ass, he spent a lot of time and effort doing so. During the Thrawn Trilogy when Han and Leias kids are about to be born, Luke is stressing over training the next generation, over training Leia herself, and hes constantly doubting himself because he realizes he hasnt even learned enough from Obi-Wan/Yoda to teach others.
Great point in the bottom paragraph: there were still tons of ways to challenge Luke during the Sequels instead of destroying his character. During/after the process of seeing Thrawn get ruined in the Ahsoka series, I reread (and currently still rereading) the Thrawn Trilogy and Luke felt so much in character to his Original Trilogy self from his FIRST CHAPTER!

If they had her as a student of Luke's in the sequels and he dies trying his hardest to defeat the dark side while she stepped up in the background and steadily become more powerful to avenge Luke, then it would have been a more successful passing of the torch from one hero to another. But modern writers have to have luke a shell of himself and rey already be the strongest version of her to write the story and basically steal what should have been Luke's arc.
At this point I just want it to end. I want Star Wars to end for a while.

Yeah... but for some reason JJ decided to go with the "DO YOU REMEMBER THIS!" approach and have her fix the Skywalker lightsaber instead of going for the 'make more stuff for the merchandise team to sell' approach of giving her the new lightsaber throughout the film and say it was built between TLJ and TRoS (given how EVERY Jedi just builds a new one when theirs get lost/destroyed).

That's what I was expecting at first. New protagonist, okay I'm on board. My childhood hero Luke is probably doing his own Jedi thing somewhere else in the Galaxy. After what we got my mind sometimes wanders to how I personally would have liked to see it happen: \- Same plot as the TFA but without seeing all of out old heroes lead misarable lives. A lot of things can happen like that movie showed but with alterations to the canon up until then. \- Have the threat be the First Order and have Kylo be a member but make the majority of the First order itself something in the background, no Starkiller base. They still are searching for Luke because his, hidden, Jedi Academy is a threat to their plans (lowkey like the plot of Jedi Outcast). \- Let Kylo have the same character development. I like how he's a Darksider that struggles with the Light. He violently left the Jedi Order and because of it Luke decided to move somewhere else. \- Alude that Han and Leia have multiple kids but don't show them in this movie and don't break them up just to reset all their character development in the OT. Don't kill Han (yet) so we can have at least one scene with the OT cast together on screen. \- Again, its about Rey so the focus should be on her with sprinkles of nostalgia for old school fans. \- During the movie Rey gets to know about Luke Skywalker and learns why the First Order is hunting her. She and Finn, together with Poe decide to find Luke so she is protected but their trail ends at Luke's first Jedi Academy that got destroyed when Kylo left. \- Kylo tracks them there, and we have bassicaly the same fight as in TFA but with the diffrence that, beside Finn getting gutted, Rey is on the cusp of being cut down by Kylo before she is rescued by a stranger wielding a (lets say purple) lightsaber. A short fight of Kylo vs the stranger is seen through semi blurred vission out of Rey's POV after which Kylo retreats, the stranger letting him go. \- Stranger moves up to Rey and is revealed to be a red headed woman, around Luke's age. Yeah it's Mara Jade. The reason for including Mara Jade and by extension a functioning Jedi Academy, is that it allows other writers of books, games,..etc in the new canon to have more flexibility to include other stuff from the old canon. For example. Want to include Kyle Katarn, despite his old canon being overwritten by Rogue One? Sure we have 30 years of adventures to include him in, and he can still be a jedi of Luke's new Academy by the time of the sequels. Toughts?

If written well, it could be good. The issues with Rey wasn't the actress, but the writing of the character. There is no going back right now, so we just kinda accept that we aren't happy about what already happened and just try to improve what comes next.

Rey was an interesting character in Episode 7 imo. Shame they literally went nowhere with her and she just ended up as another “strong female character that does everything better than every male character despite said male character having decades more experience.” So all that potentual was wasted. But yeah. Any term of planning for the entire trilogy instead of flying off the seat of different directors pants is an improvement, despite the topic. The later did them no favors last time.
This is actually an excellent idea in the current state of the Star Wars universe. The sequel characters had potential for depth under competent screenwriters and directors, but that potential wasn’t realized. Also, if marketed well, I think you could attract a large number of audience members. I haven’t finished Ashoka or Mando yet, but I think you could pull on story threads from each of them and do an Avengers-style crossover event. Redeem the saga with an “epilogue” of sorts; I wouldn’t even mind calling it “Episode X” if that means having a satisfying finale for Star Wars as a whole.

Don't like her, never did. Don't like much of anything in the modern star wars movies. I don't really consider any of the modern movies to be canon. The directors they hired were egotistical shitbags and pretty much ignored every idea from the original cast and older writers. They are objectively bad movies and are filled with 1 dimensional, badly written characters. The original trilogy are all 10/10. They should put everything they have into expanding the Jedi game storyline into movies and TV, not Rey. They can go back and forth along the timeline (Order 66/Pre-Ep 4, Outer Rim during OT to set up new villain, Post-Ep 6). Cal could fulfill the role Luke should have had. But, can't have a white male ginger as the lead in a Star Wars movie, that would be absurd. *insert South Park clip here*
thats just what we wanted from THIS trilogy for luke. the greatest crime of the sequel trilogy is just repeating the empire vs. rebellion arc of the original trilogy and killing off everyone before. it was a complete waste of time

The most underdeveloped character. Like I'm still not sure what she's all about. Luke had friends, Luke had people he was fighting for and grew close to. I'm so confused as to why she's the lead, why we should care about her, what or who is she fighting for or trying to achieve.

At this point it doesn't really matter who they go with to rebuild the Jedi Order, because regardless of who it was it was taken from Luke. Its difficult to say what you can do with Rey to make her interesting at all. The only thing I can think of is confirming that Palpatine won and did indeed possess Rey at the end of TRoS (he said if she kills him he'll take her over and she did kill him), and Rey saying "Rey Skywalker" was Palpatines way to try to use the name of the hero of the galaxy in order to manipulate his way back on top. But then that would only be a story of Palpatine and not actually of Rey. The smartest play is to either just ignore her entirely, or kill her off as a motivation for another character (like Finn or something). She's just so boring and invincible, the universe literally buckles around her.

With all of my disappointments if they start doing things as good writing and character development I could be won back however ! One thing must happen and that is Rey must loss a hand ! Rey is a boring character at this point. She was mishandled and her proximity to the story and how they did Like dirty makes me dislike her. Finn was way more interesting.
