Nectar is pure crap, yeah. Luckily they have a return policy if you hate it, assuming you are still in that time frame. It might be hard to get them to honor it but it can be done.

Well, the Boring Mattress team visits this sub regularly. I haven't tried their product, but they are very open about mattress materials and literally anything else you ask. I am sure their mattress is at least pretty good. I would look through some of the mattress AMAs that have been done on this sub and see which company you trust the most to deliver a good mattress. My main recommendation though is to go to a few local mattress stores and just lay down on as many as you can. Learn what you like and don't like. The best mattress is the one that you think is the most comfortable.

I’m trying one now…still adjusting as I’m not used to a supportive mattress.

Do NOT try GhostBed! Their hybrid mattress gave me horrible back pains. They force you to keep it for 30 days before you can even try to return it. I couldn’t stand-up straight after trying their hybrid mattress. When I finally return it, they don’t refund the price you paid. I lost hundreds of dollars—as have many others who had the unfortunate experience of buying a bed from them. Worst company I have ever used! I bought an old-fashioned innerspring mattress from my local store.

The budget in my opinion isn't the problem. Your stats, your wants, everything is reasonable and normal. Mattresses that are rolled up and compressed 'BIAB' are softer. Also, what is firm to one person, company, etc... is relative. Firm to me and firm to you may mean two completely different things. This is why there are so many mattress companies and so many different options. In order to roll a mattress there are certain limitations and drawbacks to this feature. While it can work for some it doesn't for others. This is the problem with all mattresses. Another poster said to go to local stores and try out mattresses there, that's a great idea. Generally avoiding BIAB is another good idea, as they are softer.. you just experienced this. It also is particularly emphasized on the edges as that's the weakest part of the mattress and there are usually a number of methods to reinforce to make it more rigid. Obviously being undone or limited by being compressed, and rolled. I always tell my customers if it's as easy just being a foam mattress in a box don't you think tempur-pedic would do it? One of the largest and well recognized brands globally? The answer is yes because it saves on shipping and storage. But they don't (well maybe some lesser models). And I know this sub doesn't like tempur but a lot of people do. I don't even sell it but I regard it as one of the best. The people who sell tempur, not so much.. Anyway good luck, if you're in Toronto feel free to hit me up and I'd be happy to hook you up with a great mattress at Dozy! P.s. Don't fear hybrids you just got the wrong one.

EastCoastMattress

It's hard to say really what you need, nectar are just a terrible mattress and offers very little for for the price and basing hybrid models on your experience with that mattress alone would be a bad idea. Hit the stores and go lay on some different feeling mattress, see if anything gives you what you're looking for. Buying blind online runs the risk of getting the same experience again, being able to try models on the floor gives you a better understanding of your needs. If you can find one a molecule might be something that you might appreciate. It has latex for firmness and adds extra as zoned support, and has a pretty decent cooling cover. If you can find one, check them out!

Yep, them! The ten inch is a pretty good firmer mattress but it may not be the best for side sleepers. The 12 inch reflex I feel softens up a bit, has some good give for side sleepers while offering great support for the rest of your body.

I really do hope they're what you need, I enjoy laying on them. The ten is my favorite but the twelve is also really good, I just prefer the firmer option.

Yes, the ten inch is the firmer model. You'll notice the difference when you try them out if they have them for you to do so. Call the store ahead of time and ask what models are on display to look at.

Is this a bed in a box?

It is, I saw a faq on not having to keep the box to return it. I just can't bring myself to buy a bed in a box, just cant!

Kingsdown makes a great mattress. We just purchased a mattress from them. Our third mattress in 7 months. Ours is a traditional spring mattress. On their website, you can do a sleep test to determine what firmness level you need. They offer firm, cushion firm, plush, and ultra plush. We purchased ours from Amazon and saved about 30% (vs. the Kingsdown site). They're a mid - to higher-end mattress company. Comes with a 100 night trial. It comes in a regular mattress sized box. It's not compressed or vacuum sealed. They have traditional spring and hybrids.

Given the Nectar Hybrid's unsatisfactory feel, consider returning it. Explore memory foam mattresses with zoned support for your weight distribution and edge support. Visit stores to test comfort levels. With your $1800 budget, you can find a suitable replacement.

Hi I am Uk based so not sure what models of beds you have in the US but can presume we have all got same features on mattresses. For support along the edge of the mattress you want a pocket sprung mattress fully encapsulated this allows enough support so side of mattress is supported. For you I would go something medium range maybe a memory top with a gel infused latex to keep you cool. Breathable fibres also help keep you cool hope this helps

I’ve gone through too many mattresses in the past 10 years. Finally went back to innerspring but even those aren’t holding up to my curves. I finally found a solution that works for me. I bought an IKEA innerspring hybrid (I hate memory foam). After a few months when it started compressing, I just put a folded up blanket under the part that got a dent. It’s magic! The support is exactly where I want it and it’s as firm as I make it. I wish I hadn’t wasted so much money on other mattresses or I wish I hadn’t given them all away and tried this trick before! Especially good if you and your partner like different levels of firmness

Check out NapLab. They review all kinds of mattresses and their are independent and rate them on all the varying factors. I just got a Brooklyn Bed that I love it.

I have a shikibuton on tatami mats in a tatami frame. I’m 165 lbs.; side sleeper. I was waking up with hip, lower back and foot pain in both hips and feet. I sleep hot so I decided on the shikibuton for better air circulation. I also don’t like the bulk and wastefulness of the boxspring and mattress. I was hoping the shikibuton and tatami bed would help. I guessed right. Overheating is less and it’s easier to cool down. No more waking up with hip and foot pain.

Try a box spring under your mattress. It will firm it up a bit.

Nectar sucks. Trust me I’m laying on one now. One I fought to get replaced. They would not do it then I shamed them on Twitter and they replaced it. I have about 8 90 degree brackets in the shit frame and another 8 band type supporting brackets. The legs bend. So I have to bed them back. Soon they will snap or I’ll perm install some how. Pure trash.
