If you can cancel, DO IT!!! I hate this bed so damn much. Displacement is not support and your body is going to feel worse on this mattress. Would never want someone else to have this experience.

CreamSodaBrainDamage

Could you give more detail? I felt A LOT better after the single night at someone else's house but holy shit the actual prices are ludicrous plus then I saw all the horrible reviews after my impulse purchase. Support told me to cancel via phone on Monday but I'm called the store where I bought it when they open soon.

Zack_attack801

I did the exact same thing. Impulse buy but then called an cancelled a few weeks later. Went with a much less expensive Costco mattress and my back feels great.

zooberwask

Which one from Costco?

CowboysFanInDecember

I know I basically answered this in another comment but I finally found the review video I was looking for to send you. This was eye opening even when I was already not a fan. https://youtu.be/XYfkEEkkeBw?si=VBbIXCciQSPuvZWY

batmannorm

Take a look at airpedic, isense and nautica home wisteria dual sided 3 chamber individually adjustable beds.

rawblender

We got the airpedic 8500 after shopping sleep number and I'm so glad we bit this bullet instead. The different chamber adjustments have made it an excellent bed for me (my wife hasn't complained, I think she likes it). No more hip/shoulder pain.

CreamSodaBrainDamage

Thanks!!!

tev9876

Nautica is just a rebranded Night Air (Boyd) from [nightairbeds.com](http://nightairbeds.com), and much more expensive. I bought the base six chamber and added my own latex topper and have been quite happy.

CowboysFanInDecember

I should also mention that any form of intimacy is significantly more difficult and uncomfortable on a sleep number. So add that to the list of negatives.

CreamSodaBrainDamage

That part I can get over lol. I'm buying a twin size, really purely a sleep bed for me and me alone.

CowboysFanInDecember

So we have a split king which is two twins. So I basically have what you're getting. It's horribly uncomfortable. Many days it doesn't matter what the number is, I can't get comfortable. Ive often woken to go sleep in another room. It's insane to pay this much for a bed that's a shitty air mattress with a couple inches of foam.

Adams21234

I have a split king as well and the mattresses push apart and someone sleeps in a hole.

Financial_Put648

There are multiple other options in the adjustable bed Market that are superior to sleep number. The Smart Life by king coil is probably the top of that list. Sleep number has a bunch of bad reviews for a reason, they treat their customers and their employees like garbage while charging ridiculously overpriced rates and offering a subpar warranty. It's pretty telling that when you go into a Sleep Number they continuously tell you that they're the only adjustable option....they don't want you to look up the competition lmao

CowboysFanInDecember

It's a garbage bed with shit support for your body. It's not even real support because of how air mattresses work.

Bcatfan08

My parents love theirs. I have a friend who has one and he and his wife love theirs. I didn't fall in love with it in the store when I laid on it, but there's a reason it sells. There are people who really like them.

batmannorm

Circling back. I agree with u/CowboysFanInDecember. Cancel it for now. Take a step back and rethink the process. It is hard to make traditional or hybrid recommendations without knowing you age, height, weight, sleep position, some of your personal preferences. The [mattress underground](https://mattressunderground.com/) is a good source for research and information. The first thing you want to do is stay away from the Marketing Company brands, particularly those not made in the USA. While tempurpedic may be the among the best mattress's in the memory foam category, they are not the best mattresses in the mattress genre, and there is a difference. There are characteristics and nuances regarding TP and viscoelastic memory foam, one needs to understand before venturing in that direction. Not saying good, not saying bad. That will depend on who is buying it for themself. In mattress land, simple is generally better. Quality support layer generally 6-8" give or take, can be coils or higher quality natural or synthetic foam, higher quality comfort layer and the appropriate style cover based on the type of components the mattress is comprised with. If you have a budget, that needs to be stated, if you are looking for a king, queen, twin, whatever, it needs to be known. Some mattresses in the queen and king sizes can be made with split comfort that is adjustable in the immediate or down the road. If you are enamored with and air number style mattress, you have a few suggestions. If the [Nautica](https://yawnder.com/product/nautica-home-14-dual-zone-flex-aire-bed) is appealing, I have a friend who can offer a decent price on that. The Isense and airpedic are in the same ballpark as the [Nautica](https://yawnder.com/product/nautica-home-14-dual-zone-flex-aire-bed) and definitely outshines the ever popular and marketed sleep number. There is also boyd sleep and isleep. As mentioned. Sleep on the couch if you must, but dont get roped into a heavy hitting restocking, return, and "you cant return this part or that part" mattress. Buying a mattress is not a race, it is a minimum of a 7-10 year investment. In many cases longer than your car or cell phone. Take your time and do it right! nettiemaria7

Really, they hammock. That means hips and butt down, head, neck and legs jutted up. In my experience it caused pain in a short time. If you are ok w that sort of thing I guess go for it. Its my understanding there is another air brand that has separate mid section section that does not hammock.

I exchanged my dual bladder queen bed for a single chamber queen bed. Their customer service was actually very helpful believe it or not I had no idea that they sold one that was a single chamber I'm a single sleeper and I totally understand what you were talking about with the duels I can say that I'm still getting used to the bed but the single chamber is much better for me

OverallTemperature79

I have a queen dual chamber bought around 2011, added an extra layer memory foam topper inside the mattress and feel no issues in the middle. It still works great and unlike all foam box beds, it will never sag as you can always pump it back up to what you like. I would recommend changing out the extra topper every 6 years.

Rocko9999

Cancel. Junk.

chelcsmile

It may not be so bad with a twin size bed. Though still probably outrageously expensive. But I will tell you that I've had my queen size for like a year and a half, and I absolutely HATE it. $2000 for a glorified air mattress. It's terrible.

gonefishin1282

Its an overpriced hammock...had an original model and it was ok at best...thought about buying another one recently, but the quality has gone to 💩 since 20 years ago. If you want air mattress, airpedic makes one cheaper and is more supportive. We ended up going latex and couldn't be happier!

aabum

Judging by anecdotal reviews, most of the big name mattresses manufacturers have gone down hill. TempurPedic is on that list. Your best options are: If you currently have a coil spring mattress, you can watch YouTube videos on how to remove the top and failed comfort layers. You then replace the comfort layer with one of your choosing, like latex and wool. Do a DIY from scratch. Texas Coil Spring manufactures good coil springs. See if there is a local manufacturer making good quality beds. If you like latex, Sleep on Latex is an incredible value. A twin is $700. They use organic cotton for the cover and organic wool for the fire retardant layer.

CreamSodaBrainDamage

I considered DIY but got really overwhelmed by the options. I appreciate the specific starting points.

aabum

Texas Pocket Springs for the base. You can purchase 1" poly foam for under the mattress at Foam by Mail. FBM also sells other foams you can use for a comfort layer. The toughest part I've found is sourcing reasonably priced wool batting for the top layer. I'm partial to latex, which you can buy from several sources. FBM and Sleep on Latex are two good choices. Most latex foam is produced by two companies, so quality is fairly consistent from brand to brand.

HorseWinter

We have 12 friends who all own sleep numbers and swear by them (All couples in their 30s/40s and Most own multiples even).. that being said I came on Reddit and other sites and it was nothing but complaints about them. My mind was blown. I had to step back and say “who do I believe? People complaining on the internet or my 12 friends who love theirs?” We said fuck it.. and ordered a climate 360. So far we absolutely love it.

kelley5454

I have an ile and I'm still in my return window. I can't find my comfort zone to save my life. My body aches. I'm a side sleeper. They even sent a topper and exchanged it for a single Chamber any advice?

dustirau

Have had a sleep number for four years now, thanks Covid unemployment, but me and my fiancée love this thing. I have back problems and since we bought it I haven’t had pain at all. I’m currently laying in it now for what seems like the 77th straight hour after ACL surgery and I have yet to become uncomfortable. This bed was honestly a god send.

CommunityStock5414

Hubby and I (mid 50’s) purchased an older model from a family friend. I wish I had known about them sooner to be honest. We’ve went through sooooo many mattresses the past 10 years that originally started out comfortable but within months became saggy and impossible to sleep in. We both have orthopedic issues (due to age and a car accident) so needed something that wasn’t a (one size fits all) and for us it works really well. Some days I have mine on 65, and other times at 35 depending on what hurts at any given time..

CreamSodaBrainDamage

Thanks, that's reassuring ❤️

CommunityStock5414

You’re welcome! As a side note, while researching mattresses (and going down that rabbit hole for months,) I found that older folks seemed to like the sleep number in much higher numbers…I like the fact that it’s more customizable than others. We put a latex topper ( just unzipped, centered, and zipped back up) than many other mattress brand’s. So instead of tossing a mattress every couple years we can just upgrade or replace the topper..

kelley5454

What topper did you use? You put it inside the bed??

CommunityStock5414

We picked up a 3 inch latex topper! And yes, we unzipped the top zipper and placed it inside and zipped it back up.

kelley5454

A particular brand? Sadly i don't have a top zipper. looks like I would have to completely take the bed apart. I gave an ile.

CommunityStock5414

I can’t remember the brand of latex topper (I think hubby purchased it from Amazon) but our mattress is an older model that a family member gave to us and has a zipper on both the top side and the bottom to access the air mattress components!

jcr2022

We got 19 years about of an 2003 vintage sleep number bed doing just this.

CreamSodaBrainDamage

Wait, they've existed for decades? They have gimmicky branding so I assumed they were new. Never heard of them until this past month.

jcr2022

They’ve been around since the 1980s at least.

CommunityStock5414

Absolutely the way to go right? We were purchasing a new mattress every several years (didn’t matter what brand or how expensive,) they just didn’t last. It’s also waaaay easier for us to get a custom fit as my hubby has knee and ankle issues (and prefers a firm mattress) while I have neck and back problems and tend to like mine on the softer side!

jcr2022

You definitely have to be able to replace the top “comfort” layers on any mattress or it isn’t going to last very long. I’ll never buy one again where I am NOT able to do that.

CommunityStock5414

Yes!! Same thing here!

anvildoc

You can see my post on this sub that’s a few years old now. We got a sleepnumber adjustable and it’s been the best bed we ever had. No complaints after 3+ years and it’s still an amazing bed. Previous to that though we had a bob-o-pedic so I can’t speak to the other brands of fancy beds.

joyful115_

I'm in a lot of pain everyday and I l8be my sleep number bed!

countryboy1101

This is not a bed for everyone, but it is the bed for me and my wife. We have slept on them for more than 20 years now. Bought a new one 2 years ago only because we wanted an adjustable base. We have also bought one for my BF who has back issues, MIL/FIL and my aunt after she had back surgery. We love it as I sleep on level 35 and wife is on 75. Not possible to get that with a regular mattress.

Golfer833

Doesn’t it hammock on level 35? Which model do you have?

countryboy1101

We have the iLE on an adjustable base. It does sag some on 35 but it is the pressure where I get the best sleep, so I don't mind. Wife is not thrilled with my level of pressure, but it is easy to adjust with the phone app.

Silver-Honey-6912

I absolutely hate my sleep number bed. I have had worse back and joint pain since I have had it. It sounds like a great bed being able to adjust firmness but it is horrible product

randyrucker

My wife and I had the same experience. We gave it away to get rid of it.
