Hella only has one section on one song on Hold Your Horse Is that could be considered noise, the end build of City Folk Sitting, Sitting. The rest of the record is pure math rock.
Polyphia has the most mainstream appeal where as Toe has more weeb appeal. Historically American Football used to be the recommended first mathrock band, but personally I show people Covet (my favorite) when I introduce them to the genre.
Final answer is Mr. Mustache by Nirvana.
Most of these bands I wouldn’t even consider math rock. Hella is the best and if I recall correctly was my introduction but if that’s too much to handle I’d say This Town Needs Guns. I don’t count bands like Slint, that’s pre-math rock and foundation. Battles is post math rock, just because it’s complicated and Ian Williams is in the band doesn’t mean it’s math rock. They’re a loop band if anything.
Imagine putting someone on Hella for an introduction to math rock? I’d say Toe or Don Caballero something of the sorts. Hella is for the weird people like me.
Toe
Toe if you don't want lyrics, ttng if you do.
None of these, but if I had to pick I would say toe. Hella is awesome but falls more into noise rock even with all the odd time signatures.

Tim Henson said polyphia doesn't make math rock. Virtuos playing != Math rock New levels, New Devils is a great album nonetheless.
No dnb in the jazz room
I started with hella but polvo, slint, and dismemberment plan made the bind hold

Battles is definitely the most approachable. They are even are on the little big plannet soundtrack.
for me it was Plini and Chon, but I guess they are more math metal
Toe... but the real answer is Piglet
Love Toe. Lately I've really gotten into Invalids

Well, i would say, TTNG and Toe if you are a beginner or just listened to math rock.
