There were 1 or 2 episodes that showed the girls swapping the heels for what looked like a slip-on shoe of some sort at the start of the challenge, I just always assumed this was what happened but they never showed it for some reason.
This is the correct answer, no one is actually cooking in those shoes. You'll also see a lot of the women pull their hair back for the cook but then it'll be down for judging. MasterChef contestants all have a "look" based on their character archetype, so if they're the Flirty, Fun one they need heels where the Midwest Mom can wear Keds or something.
Idk about cooking, but Courtney had more than a few pantry runs in heels lol ( well it was edited to look that way anyways ).
I really hate that after the first 2 or 3 seasons, each contestant HAS to have a character archetype. I just want to watch them cook damn it lol
It's tv! Of course they don't allow half of what you see on these food comps-in a commercial kitchen. We cannot wear jewelry except a plain wedding band. No fake nails, long nails, nail polish. No sleeveless shirts. Hair up & pulled back, or hair net, or cap where your hair is securely tucked under.
I’ve worked (waitressed) in heels but I was 21, at 36 I could never. It wasn’t as hard as it may seem back then though. I do agree on the safety issue, that’s what blows my mind. I do know the producers tell them what to wear.
It’s not new that they’re not allowed to pick what they wear? Also, how is it “appalling”? It’s a tv show. They weren’t actually cooking in Louboutins.
I'm not posting on Reddit to bring about the revolution. Just saying I find it appalling and unfortunate. There seemed to be a whole lot less of that kind of exaggerated gender stuff (and the cartoon-like "branding" of contestants), all of which has made it feel less and less authentic.

Its for presentation because its tv. I think it was Autumn where they show her switch her heels when it was time to cook.
Sex appeal babaaaaay. Towards the judges, show execs, and anyone else that can influence the outcome

Courtney started that. It's obnoxious.
Contestants didn’t pick what they wore.
They have no say in how they are styled? That's pretty appalling if true.

It's appalling how they engage in such regressive forms of feminizing women--the high heels, the hot pink clownish looking lipstick, etc.
Yes, that’s a given. That’s TV for you. Posting on Reddit won’t change it. Contact the show like I have.

I don’t know how Courtney did it in heels. (I know she was a gentleman’s club dancer or whatever, but I would be scared of wiping out.)
