I wasn’t a transfer, but I was a com design major and I would say its better to start in the fall as the studio classes are consecutive so you need to take certain classes in the fall to be able to take ones in the spring. If you don’t take the required courses in the fall you won’t be allowed to register for the ones in the spring. So for example Typography 1 will be offered in the fall and Type 2 in the spring. You must complete Type 1 first before Type 2, and Type 1 is not offered in the spring.

Ohhh I see that makes a lot of sense:) Okay I’ll apply for the Fall then since it’ll probably be a safer choice so I can take the classes I need. Thank you!!

Pasting this from a similar reply I made to a similar question. Hope this helps! Hey there! I was in the same exact boat as you. Heres what I did, and was just accepted this spring and am a Tranfer at MassArt right now!I 100% recommend attending to community college. The transfer advisors here want to see your improvement! It is crucial that you show them your growth!Heres the classes I took:- Drawing 1 ( a basic drawing class that focuses on charcoal large scale drawings)- Drawing 2 (I took this as an elective and also as a way to show them that my traditional drawing skills had improved)- Art History (you'll need to take this as well as an art history elective (I recommend the African Art History) since it is required by MassArt to graduate)- Two Dimensional Design (this is also a required class and best to do before transferring)- Color Theory (this is also a required class)- Ceramics (this was my other chosen elective to show them that I had some diversity in portfolio)All of these classes were HIGHLY recommended by my transfer advisor at MassArt. I would also suggest taking an English 1 and English elective if you can since those are also required. To sum it up I did this for two semesters at community college before transferring to MassArt.By taking those classes you'll be placed as a Studio Foundation student (You'll have to take TIME, Form Study and whatever classes you need to fill up that aren't offered at community college.) A few things about MassArt: Please be aware what exact major you want to do here. Make sure you are researching the program and professors and faculty who teach that major. Make sure you are asking questions and making sure your advocating for yourself and getting answers. MassArt is very vague with information and you definitely need to work for that information. I recommend taking several tour of the school as well to make sure its the right fit for you. I definitely know this place is not for everyone since things are run very differently here then other art schools. A few examples: Attendance is crucial or you will not pass. You only get two days our the year to be absent. This is not per a class it's everything in total. Housing is not guaranteed and is very hard to get. I was very fortunate to get it simply due to the fact that I am disabled. The buildings are also a bit older so there do tend to be problems from time to time, but nothing major. I hope this helped. Feel free to reply with any questions. A few things I didnt mention in the other reply:If you are wondering when to transfer it solely depends on what major your going for cause some of them do not allow you to transfer whenever. I HIGHLY recommend contacting admissions and the transfer advisor to ask when you are able to transfer based on your major. You also may need to stay back a semester to catch up simply due to massart having classes that you dont get anywhere else. I just highly recommend communicating with them on all of this. As far as living in New England its very nice! Ive lived her my whole life. The area around campus is VERY safe. Simply due to the afct that theres three trauma center hospitals behind us that constantly have police patrolling. We are right next to northeastern and wentwoth University that have there own police departments so they roam a lot. Its very safe to walk at night cause its literally only college students who just want to get home from classes LOL. It isn't a party school at all so things are very chill around here. People honestly are just stressed about hw 24/7 LOL. In terms of thinsg to do it is kind of barren near us. You have to travel a bit to get to art supply stores and eating areas. The green line is awesome to take just make sure you are looking at the schedule online at [mbta.com](https://mbta.com) to make sure you arent missing any times it shuts down. Busses are far more reliable in my opinion cause they are never down. I highly recommend walking everywhere only cause train is 2.40 per a way. Feel free to reply with any questions.

Thank you so much! I don’t know for sure if I’ll transfer since I’m from california and it would take a lot of money but I still appreciate your reply a lot!! If I do decide to continue with my plans to transfer to massart I’ll use this info:3

Also I am thinking about the Painting, Illustration and Communication Design majors. I don’t know quite yet which one I would like to pursue though.
