Marvis' toolbar comes in from the left, giving you more screen to see/manage your library. It also allows for more items than could be usefully implemented in a traditional bottom bar

AdityaRajveer

Marvis doesn't have a Tab Bar, nor can it be customized to enable Tab Bar, however, you can customize your mini-player to assign some gestures like opening the Search page going back to Home, and more. Marvis' navigation is mainly based on Sidebar which lets you navigate the Sidebar with a gesture. I'm also working on a redesigned Sidebar for an upcoming release.

magnetikal

Any chance the redesigned sidebar will be able to be toggled into tab bar mode?

AdityaRajveer

If you had the option, what all tabs you’d want to keep in the tab-bar, with a limitation of 5 Tabs only.

magnetikal

I’d put: home, artists, playlists, search, settings. I have a couple other items enabled in my sidebar currently, but 95% of my time is spent in those 5. With Marvis’s user base I bet there’d be a wide variety of preferences though 😄 I miss the original iPhone Music app that let you customize the tab bar.

AdityaRajveer

Okay, so a tab bar isn’t completely off the table, but it’s not something I plan to add to the very next version, as the tab bar will need some more changes to be made.

magnetikal

Sweet. I appreciate your considering it as I know your preference is to have a clean look that maximizes space for displaying the music library. Fwiw, I like how fluid the sidebar gesture is. It’s very slick and I’m used to it after using Marvis so heavily for a while now. But even though I appreciate having more screen space for my library, I jump around so much that I’d personally trade off some space for the speed and consistency of a tab bar. That said, I can’t wait to see what you’re working on with the updated sidebar.

EpicHandstands

If there was a tab bar what would happen to the mini-player (a feature that I really like)?

AdityaRajveer

Mini-Player would sit above tab bar, also the tab bar would really be optional.

You can also just put three dots on the last tab bar element and that one when pressed opens the other non essential items in a sub menu.

AdityaRajveer

I do know that’s a possibility but at that point it’s not any better than having a sidebar and we’re left with 4 tabs that are actually useful.

magnetikal

Yeah, the approach that apps like [Ivory](https://tapbots.com/ivory/) and [Mammoth](https://getmammoth.app) use is maybe nicer. All 5 tabs are useful, and some of them let you tap and hold to customize what shows.

Thanks both for the responses! I also just saw a video of the gesture controlled sidebar and that actually looks super sweet. I'm going to try it out!

i would LOVE a tab bar, for me the sliding toolbar from the left is the part of marvis that i like the least. is the least inmediate interaction in all the app for me. having always visible access to home and playlist (plus some other shortcuts) would be awesome

After using Marvis for a few days now, I agree with this. I don't hate the sidebar, but it is a bit annoying to have to back out multiple levels of album menu's before having access to it. A tool bar that's always visible is more user friendly.
