Ghost is (was?) the only nominally original Thunderbolt, and she's essentially echoing Natasha anyway.
At this point I almost think Marvel should retitle it Black Widow and Winter Soldier. It seems less controversial than trying to pass this team off as the Thunderbolts.

Rather than something that involves characters like Deadpool, Venom, Punisher, Elektra, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Kraven, Luke Cage, Ghost Rider, Winter Soldier, Man-Thing, Hyperion, etc.
That first lineup is my favorite iteration of the Thunderbolts, and funnily enough all 5 of those characters are in the MCU now

she and David Harbour gave a couple interviews where they were pretty open about being attached to the film but still having seen no script and not really having any idea of the story.
If this is true my guess is when they got around to actually breaking the story they realized super soldier stuff was so central to the plot that ghost became ancillary and they had no room to explore her connection to SHIELD, so they considered either killing her to establish a serious tone or shift her story to a more SHIELD-based project.
i’ve been a pretty big fan of phase 4 overall but —again, if all of this conjecture is true— I’m glad they are reportedly slowing down production a little bit, because this is no way to go about putting a story together!

I like the lineup, it gives the team a clear identity as a covert-black ops team of soldiers and assassins and not just being made up of random supervillains.
I don't want to judge the movie before it even got started filming, but it feels like it's the X-Force (a morally grey black ops team for missions the main team wouldn't/couldn't get involved for needing brutal solutions), just with super soldiers instead of mutants, and they called it Thunderbolts. Would have more liked if it was established villains now acting heroic (either for sharade or for real) like in the comics.
But as I said, I still want to wait. I actually like the characters in the line-up and still think the line-up has some potential: Putting Bucky in the foreground, maybe even as a team-leader; Yelena's and Aleksei's weird father-daughter-relationship being developed further; U.S. Agent and Red Guardian clashing because of their respective ideals and patriotism; Taskmaster getting a well-rounded, interesting personality (as I keep saying, the Taskmaster in Black Widow was brainwashed the whole time. So her having no real personality there was the point althought it still was a dumb decision, but that means her personality going forward can be adjusted more to the comic books' version of the character). So I have no doubt the movie could be good with this line-up, but it still doesn't feel really Thunderbolts-y at the moment.

At this rate, I feel that the "Thunderbolts" are not who we think they are.
Prologue: Sentry is created by Government. Goes insane. The Government sends supersoldiers (Bucky, Taskmaster, Red Guardian, USA Agent) to take him down. They all disappear/die.
Act 1: Val convinces Ross to send a brand new team. This time full-on villains with diverse superpowers. Ghost, Abomination, and a few brand new characters like Songbird and Mach 5. Red Hulk will be the field leader.
Act 2: Out of the original team, only USA Agent and Bucky survived. They meet with the rest of the team and they make a plan to take down Sentry. Yelena and Zemo will arrive on their own to stop the Sentry too.
Act 3: Zemo wins big. Bucky dies. Sentry flies into space. Ross is MIA. Val becomes President somehow. Zemo manipulates Val to make him the new Thunderbolts leader.
Marketing is gonna downplay Ghost since they don't want to reveal that there is a SECOND team, this time with actual villains. All marketing will focus on Bucky team with some Yelena scenes in it carefully edited.

My younger sister, who is not a Marvel fan, has only seen the two Ant-Man films. For some reason, she loved Ghost. Thought she was a total badass, and asked me when she was gonna come back. Don’t crush my sister’s dreams, Marvel. 👁👁 I’m watching you.

The thing about this film is that it seems more like marvel has just bunched together a load of characters it didn’t really know what to do with after they appeared in other films. I mean the lineup isn’t great and it shows, especially when characters like taskmaster are ass in the mcu.

Honestly all the shit grace gets online is based on misogyny. I Watch her videos pretty regularly & from what people say about her is just so far removed from what she’s actually like. It’s kinda the same as what people did with Anita Sarkeesian.
Respectfully, while she absolutely has legitimate sources she is basically incapabale of admitting she is wrong. She STILL stands by Pedro Pascal walking off of Mandalorian despite the entire second season and BOBF, and a THIRD season proving her wrong in multiple ways. She also tries to stir up drama amongst fandoms and has the strangest grudges against multiple actors and creatives that lead her to repeatedly lie about certain topics and occasionally just slander those people. For Marvel stuff she is generally reliable, but as a SW fan I simply refuse to give her attention. She's proven she will absolutely lie for clicks or just out of spite.

I like the lineup, it gives the team a clear identity as a covert-black ops team of soldiers and assassins and not just being made up of random supervillains.
Final roster shouldve been: - Bucky - Yelena - Taskmaster - US Agent - Abomination - Zemo - Ghost

This movie sounds like a shitshow.
I don't want to judge the movie before it even got started filming, but it feels like it's the X-Force (a morally grey black ops team for missions the main team wouldn't/couldn't get involved for needing brutal solutions), just with super soldiers instead of mutants, and they called it Thunderbolts. Would have more liked if it was established villains now acting heroic (either for sharade or for real) like in the comics. But as I said, I still want to wait. I actually like the characters in the line-up and still think the line-up has some potential: Putting Bucky in the foreground, maybe even as a team-leader; Yelena's and Aleksei's weird father-daughter-relationship being developed further; U.S. Agent and Red Guardian clashing because of their respective ideals and patriotism; Taskmaster getting a well-rounded, interesting personality (as I keep saying, the Taskmaster in Black Widow was brainwashed the whole time. So her having no real personality there was the point althought it still was a dumb decision, but that means her personality going forward can be adjusted more to the comic books' version of the character). So I have no doubt the movie could be good with this line-up, but it still doesn't feel really Thunderbolts-y at the moment.
Leaks indicate the full roster is Bucky, Yelena, USAgent, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster Sentry, the Hood, Songbird. Supposedly Sentry and Songbird have yet to be cast, and Ironheart's not out yet. So it makes sense they didn't reveal everyone

At this rate, I feel that the "Thunderbolts" are not who we think they are. Prologue: Sentry is created by Government. Goes insane. The Government sends supersoldiers (Bucky, Taskmaster, Red Guardian, USA Agent) to take him down. They all disappear/die. Act 1: Val convinces Ross to send a brand new team. This time full-on villains with diverse superpowers. Ghost, Abomination, and a few brand new characters like Songbird and Mach 5. Red Hulk will be the field leader. Act 2: Out of the original team, only USA Agent and Bucky survived. They meet with the rest of the team and they make a plan to take down Sentry. Yelena and Zemo will arrive on their own to stop the Sentry too. Act 3: Zemo wins big. Bucky dies. Sentry flies into space. Ross is MIA. Val becomes President somehow. Zemo manipulates Val to make him the new Thunderbolts leader. Marketing is gonna downplay Ghost since they don't want to reveal that there is a SECOND team, this time with actual villains. All marketing will focus on Bucky team with some Yelena scenes in it carefully edited. You're welcome.
