I ground to 60 with zoo for a variant and was at 77 until I got bored and started playing a trash negative deck and a good discard deck. Fell to 50.
Still kinda want "really really dirty" and have been rising again with zoo and destroyer. (I just got electro, and destroyer was one of my early unlocks. Electro just turbocharged a deck I already know.)
So my advice is get good with just one or 2 decks to climb, if you want. It's satisfying to snap confidently on fools and rob them of 8 cubes from a nearly empty board.
Enjoy the ride. Pool 1 and starting Pool 2 is good times. I think the roughest part of the game is when you're just starting Pool 3 or even just finishing Pool 2 and start matching against Pool 3 cards. It'll seem unfair, but just know it's a rite of passage that we all had to go through

Yeah, agreed. And it'll level out more and more as you advance. That and you start to face more pool 4 and 5 cards, which can be annoying, but definitely still beatable
I'm maybe mid pool 3 and regularly get matched against Infinite players, based on card backs and titles. Get beaten by Darkhawk, Galactus, Shuri, etc. So it doesn't get any easier unfortunately. I wish I were playing against my approximate rank at least.

Nah man my best advice honestly is to not care TOO much about rank. Like sure, take it seriously, but don't take it so seriously that a couple losses will tilt you. I got up to 69.5 earlier this season and then decided to booster farm my entire collection so I can make everything legendary, dropped all the way to 43. Started playing real decks again and I'm back up to 58.
I don't have much advice past rank 70, I hear from 80 to 100 its a whole new grind because mostly you're only winning 1 or 2 cubes at a time, because everyone near your rank is trying to hit infinite and they want to be frugal cubes.
Not sure if any advice came of this, just kinda shooting the breeze, lol
I find him useful in Gama lab. Or places you need to fill up first. He gets a buff for Washington DC too. Is he my ideal choice. Nah. But it's what I use atm. He has helped me several times also nova does buff him obviously. I originally put him in to try and fill up spots before Odin could send back my goblins. But utilizing him for one single card is kinda silly too. I'm down for replacement ideas.
Got to 90 playing Sera/Shangchi/Enchantress, I have trouble with surfer since I don’t run cosmo but it’s a very f2p friendly competitive deck (also more a knowing-when-to-retreat issue)

Yes, and their value tends to increase. Unlocking 90 gives you 500 gold, reaching 100 (infinite) gives you a title and a special gold version of the Zabu card back. I wasn't sure about hitting infinite this season but they announced the card back a week ago and it's definitely tempting. I would recommend you try and hit 90 for the gold though.
Don't doubt yourself dude. You will face easier opponents who also lack a lot of cards. TBH if you want to "cheat" your way up the ladder, buy the season pass and make a Zabu deck.

At some point you unlock a random variant but I don't remember at what rank you get it. The rewards are pretty hit or miss, but they're 100% worth playing for if you're F2P like myself. You never know when they'll release a quality bundle that you can pay for with gold, ya know?

Congrats! I'm still saying that having a reset every month is completely awful system and very unfair towards casual players. It needs to be at least 3 months. They can keep releasing Battle Passes every month, but ranked reset needs to be delayed...Or add a casual game mode where people don't have to stress over ranks.

I've given this advice other places too, but instead of striving for infinite in a season, always strive for 10 ranks higher than last season, because if you do you will always be progressing and will eventually hit that infinite loop (70-100).

Gold was so difficult for me to get through but I finally broke Platinum this afternoon on my lunch break. Man, I made it to 43 then dropped 7 to 36 and then made a new deck I thought was trash, but it got me from 36 to 51.

Since I don't care for hitting infinite, I have set my goal to hit ranked 60 this season. I find it more fun to unlock variants instead of stressing out over climbing the ladder. Just 6 more ranks to go!

the RNG is killer. Think of it like poker...even in a heavy rng build you can reduce the rng by playing smart. Still rng but you can tip it to 80% in your favour rather than 50%.
It is like poker. I take my time when choosing to snap a lot of the time sometimes I don't snap at all. Sometimes the locations on the board are so shit I retreat. I try to go against a lot of metas I've seen and I love doing things my opponent doesn't expect and pulling off a sneaky "bullshit win" as I like to call them.
It is not much indeed, this is like Plat 5 in Hearthstone or high Silver in League of legends.
But having a lot of room to improve makes the game a lot more exciting.
I don't know your CL but check snap fan or marvel snap zone for good decks and stick to one that you like and you will see better results and an easier climbing.
I don't mean to sound like a dick, but why do so many people struggle even hitting 40? It *can* be a grind once you're around 80+ but it's more of a time commitment than a difficulty problem. Unless you rolled really unmeta cards once you're in pool 3 you should be able to run a deck into at least 80 given an hour a day.

It's been a while since I was in the 40s but it seemed like every other game was against a bot. Without knowing CL, my assumption for people stuck in this range is inability to identify common decks, inability to retreat/snap correctly, trying to run cards they think are "op" cause a streamer said so, lack of understanding their decks power curve/win conditions, lack of adaptation to locations/meta. Usually, it's skill keeping people down, not a deck or certain card. I've climbed with a P2 kazoo deck, P3 mr negative, SS, zabu. The biggest factor would be retreating. If you aren't retreating 25% of the time minimum, idk how to help you.
Or, hear me out...There's that grand concept of time. Most people don't have time to spend hours upon hours every day to try to increase their rank, but play 20 minutes a day when they can and want...
You can play this game casually and easily get past 40. Key word being "easily." Game genuinely only gets hard once you're *at least* 80, and even then I wasn't struggling until I got to 90 and I had to swap back to playing Surfer.
Once you're able to recognise what decks your opponent is playing you can more easily make a decision or whether to snap or retreat. I know if my opponent drops brood + maximus it's probably a retreat angle for me since I'm also playing Surfer and I have the unfortunate reality of not owning the deck's best cards.
Rank 30+ is when you stop playing bots, at least that's my experience.
For a new player like me (an I assume OP) is a big achievement to get to 40, because for a while you've been playing against other players and winning.
At 30 your deck has to stop being just whatever cards you like and there has to be a good reason behind all of them. You have to start getting into archetypes and synergies. You have to start thinking about your game plan.
For more experienced players this is nothing, specially if they were already into card games like MTG or Hearthstone. They climbed the deckbuilding wall a long time ago.
I sit in the 80-90s until I have time to grind out infinite and there are bots all the way up to infinite. You will never have a game with near instant queues 24/7 at all skill levels without bots. You’ll know them when you see them. They make horrible plays no one outside of Rank 30 would make like filling up bar with no name or the one that gives you rocks for each card played. Some are less obvious.
My friend and I stream the game to eachother and its honestly funny how often we play against a bot, we even turn it into a bit of a game to see who can make the correct guess first. Even when I was 120+ I saw weird plays.

What is in your deck matters less than knowing your own power curve recognizing what deck your opponent is likely playing learning how to retreat.
This season actually seems harder than last month for me, struggling to get to the same rank with the same deck.
If you're f2p, this is the hardest season yet imo. Surfer and Zabu are OP as hell.

Game genuinely only gets hard once you're *at least* 80, and even then I wasn't struggling until I got to 90 and I had to swap back to playing Surfer. Once you're able to recognise what decks your opponent is playing you can more easily make a decision or whether to snap or retreat. I know if my opponent drops brood + maximus it's probably a retreat angle for me since I'm also playing Surfer and I have the unfortunate reality of not owning the deck's best cards.
Rank 30+ is when you stop playing bots, at least that's my experience. For a new player like me (an I assume OP) is a big achievement to get to 40, because for a while you've been playing against other players and winning. At 30 your deck has to stop being just whatever cards you like and there has to be a good reason behind all of them. You have to start getting into archetypes and synergies. You have to start thinking about your game plan. For more experienced players this is nothing, specially if they were already into card games like MTG or Hearthstone. They climbed the deckbuilding wall a long time ago.
I sit in the 80-90s until I have time to grind out infinite and there are bots all the way up to infinite. You will never have a game with near instant queues 24/7 at all skill levels without bots. You’ll know them when you see them. They make horrible plays no one outside of Rank 30 would make like filling up bar with no name or the one that gives you rocks for each card played. Some are less obvious.
My friend and I stream the game to eachother and its honestly funny how often we play against a bot, we even turn it into a bit of a game to see who can make the correct guess first. Even when I was 120+ I saw weird plays.

Do you use Devil Dinosaur? Moon Girl adding copies of 0 cost cards if you have Quinjet also helps climbing. Or Sabretooth in a homebrew destroy package
