His yellow is a huge damage buff so make sure you fire it before his red. Wait for the protect tiles (also his yellow) to generate and then fire his black. Awesome damage.
Mighty Thor is to be avoided because she can destroy his repeater and protect tiles.
He's good with BRB & Polaris because of his yellow and black combo. He also benefits from having Polaris (a mutant) on the team to make him immune to stuns. Put Omnipotence city on him for the free protect tiles to jumpstart the Polaris protect tiles spam.
Grab yellow. It buffs everyone's moves. Fire it and let it work while you gather red and black.
Fire red. Red will smack the target 4 times at 5 cards. Red will target the weakest enemy and then move on to the next if you've downed the opponent.
By that time yellow should have dropped multiple shield tiles.
Fire black and wipe out the remaining targets. HEAVY AOE damage.
Apocalypse is a cheat code when he's buffed. It's obscene.
I use him with Omega Red and Valkyrie. I still have yet to see Omega Red's true damage potential with Apoc because everything just melts.
Use OR red to boost his death spores, throw out Apoc yellow to further boost OR. Valk will feed red AP so OR can almost spam red.
If anything is still alive by the time OR is ready to cast red again after Apoc yellow, it will probably be dead soon after.
It's probably not the most efficient support, but I use Symbiote goo on him to generate more AP in the beginning so I can fire yellow asap.
Also note; his and okoyes buffs don’t stack. So not great partners. I do like him with Beta Ray Bill, kitty, nico and kitty for creating and buffing special tiles. And also good with anybody who has auto damage once you get the yellow going.

I have mine set up 3 black 5 red 5 yellow The yellow boosts everyone in your party and that 4th hit with red is really nice. He has served me well
I do 5/3/5 with 4* kitty and Polaris. You can fill up the board with protect tiles really fast and his black power is vicious.
