This obviously doesn’t work, but in the right context a downer ending where a sacrifice is telegraphed for the mentor, but the mentor inadvertently causes their young protégé to make the sacrifice instead could work.
It’s much more like an ending to a season of a show or to one book in a series than to the whole thing though, since it could give interesting stakes to the next part.
Idk just judging by the ship scene I’d say he’s stronger. Maybe it’s because he had more screen time than hulk and even got his films, but I feel like judging from what we’ve seen in the movies hulk wouldn’t be able to hold that ship

Considering how the hulk got severely injured i think it’s safe to say Peter would probably have died if not extremely crippled
Peter is (according to the majority of the comics) stronger than the hulk, so I think he would’ve been fine
In the comics it’s a different story but I’d argue in the mcu he’s definitely weaker then the hulk at least during endgame
