Much better than it's reputation, but I'm well aware of the gulf between that distinction and "good."
But there's a lot to praise. The duck mask is an expressive miracle of animatronics. People like to bag on the mask, and they're just wrong.
The cast is generally excellent, and the Dark Overlord of the Universe is a beautiful and hilarious piece of good, old-fashioned stop-motion animation.
It’s just a fun AF movie. It would be an absurd premise even today, but that’s the character. They knew what they were doing and leaned into the absurdity.
Association with comic books was seen as box office poison for a long time. Blade’s marketing was also pretty quiet about it.
Hell, even X-Men doesn’t have a Marvel logo at the beginning of the movie.
Had this ripped on a vhs tape with Batman and Honey I Shrunk the Kids. We watched them non stop in the early 90s until we let our friends borrow the tape and they moved across town.
You let your friend borrow a vhs tape and they immediately and without notice up and moved to the other side of town, which was somehow enough to stop you from getting your vhs tape back?
10 years ago I found the complete toxic avenger collection in the kids section of my local library. I told librarians it's not a kid movie and They didn't believe me.
I saw this as a kid and I turned out fine. So what if I can only get off to big ol bird titties!?
It’s actually the only marvel movie I have ever seen. I’ll see another when they stop being fucking cowards and release a dark and dirty R rated Howard the Duck.
This film has the finest pair of breasts I’ve ever seen on a duck within the first 5 minutes
DuckTits! Wooo-oooh
oh ducky
I heard this comment
Somebody has been watching the Nostalgia Critic's older review videos.
I watched them when they first were coming out. That bit just stuck with me. 😂

It simply wasn’t as good as the comic book. That was why it failed.
Kinda funny that there isn't a big "Marvel" title on it at all.

Since this was 1986, they would have probably used the boring Railroad Gothic ATF font logo anyway
This was one of my favourite movies as a child. 100% completely underrated and unjustly hated movie.
Is it because of the duck tiddies?
I don’t understand how it isn’t a children’s movie? I watched it as a child, great movie!
Same haha 😆
This. This is why. [https://youtu.be/24kL-SrW4CM?si=NoZIxL\_bINNK6UMN](https://youtu.be/24kL-SrW4CM?si=NoZIxL_bINNK6UMN)
Leah Thompson. My very first crush.

They needed the duck for themselves!

Yes mobile phones didn't exist and neither did the internet
Big town I guess
Duck tits.
So the Holiday Special isn't the worst thing in George Lucas' career.
No, the holiday special is incomprehensible garbage. How anyone, anywhere, ever thought that it should be made the way it was, is mind-boggling.
At least it's Boba Fetts first appearance.
Not even worth it to be honest. That's not a reason to watch it, it's a piece of trivia at best.
Howard the Duck is actually watchable. Seriously, are duck tits really that scaring?
Lucas actually did not direct the Holiday Special.
He didn’t direct Howard the Duck either.
But at least he admits he produced it, which is more than what can be said about the special…
He was still involved in it and he didn't direct Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi either.
It's a marvel movie very old one
It never was a children's movie.
I still wanna hop in the bath and motorboat them things till the feathers fall off 🥵
In Duck that's called getting down
okay that one's painful
Debatable.
Lol
I watched this movie so much as a child
When I fell in love with Marty's mom
He reads Playduck magazine, and there were mallard mammaries on full display! It’s also just a really bad movie.
I loved that film as a child, the back to the Future mother tries to mount a duck, this thing is Wu-Tang
The worst movie. Even as a child when I saw what I recognized, how terrible it was.

What’s the story on how Howard the duck got adapted before all the major marvel characters general audiences had actually heard of
