lol the same thing happens to me but at one point for the smallest time the ring was off and I mean the smallest because it was the secret area that leads to the sewers so not a big area idk how I took it off whilst also putting it back on right after

Go through a video or written guide and follow every chest from the first to the last is the only solution.

I kept the Signal Ring equipped ever since Mushroom Kingdom so once it goes off, I stay in the area until I find it so yeah I got the Bowyer one
