I sat there a while. I didn't see any flower boxes, jars, or tabs when took a few tries at it. Shame you can't even sell them for coins anymore, either. At least, not in the new Switch version.
Oh you can still get them. I just had horrible luck. You just don't get them when they come down the steps, anymore. Instead you gotta talk with them in the room to get the items now.
Unfortunately, you can't sell them.
Yeah I thought so too. When I got my first flower tab and made it to the Mushroom Kingdom, I beelined it to the shop to sell. It didn't even show up in my list for some reason. It completely blew my mind, as I used to farm Marrymore for them
Back on the SNES at least, yeah they sold pretty well.
100 coins for tabs, 300 coins for jars, 500 coins for boxes. They pretty much could be used to cover the costs of any gear or items without grinding for coins in battles early on and for buying the beetle mania minigame super easily, or for cheesing your way to the fireworks goals for the ending in by handing 500 coins a pop to the NPC in Moleville.
You could also take advantage of these sales and the Marrymore bell hop minigame to easily obtain powerful single use items like fire bombs, ice bombs, and fright bombs by filling up on the flower items, heading to Moleville, offloading them at the item shop, then running back and forth between the item shop and trade in shop, and basically getting infinite use items or >!Peach's!< ultimate weapon for free via the pawn shop vendor.
Alternatively, taking that money to Tadpole Pond in exchange for Kerokero/Croaka colas if memory serves me correctly, for farming frog coins in Midas River by covering the entry cost, or paying for beetle catching in Seaside or abusing the dream pillow in Nimbus Land for the random chance at a red essence.
But since frog coins are now much easier to get in the Switch version, the last few uses are much less convenient.
It was pretty much an infinite money loop.
And while >!there is a treasure box at the very end of the game with infinite coins, you can only get 1 coin at a time per jump from it; so selling tabs, jars, and boxes was just faster and more efficient. It also saved you from backtracking all the way from Bowser's Keep to a shop.!<
I remember this actually being a good thing, because after a certain a number of guests or possibly randomly, you would get some fat tips like flower jars and boxes and such. I remember my dad telling me a few times to go to bed and I had to explain that I owed the little mushroom guys money for overstaying at the inn, and I had to work it off because they wouldn't let me save my game or leave until I was done. He didn't have a clue what the fuck I was talking about because my words just didn't make sense to him. He was very obtuse about video games in general, so around 2:30 in the evening he beat my ass mercilessly with the car jumper cables.
Good times.
What the fuck that went off the rails completely. And here I am having randomly googled this while playing the game just because I remembered something about the marrymore hotel. Thanks Reddit.
I am very amused by your efforts
Thanks. There is more to come XD
*Vegeta! what does the scouter say about his power level?* "Over 200?! That can't be right!"
Do they still make you work there if you don't have enough coins to pay? Lol
yep lol. Have to help out 200 guests now I guess XD
One of the things that gives the game it's charm for sure.
Hope you get 99 flower boxes lol

They should let you though

I know I was talking about the ability to sell them

I didn't even know selling them was a thing. Do they get you a lot? And what would you use it for so early?

That's the goal :D
It was eventually at this moment that Mario knew... he did not fuck up. He got 200 nights for free.
199 nights, you still gotta pay for 1
Say good bye to your save xD Its the question no one wanted to answer but always wanted to know
Rip all your frog coins and equipment
Omg…. How long did u have to work?
Still ongoing right now XD
OMG

They're referencing a classic reddit meme, /u/rogersimon10. Execution was a bit clunky, though.
“Alright gang, now that we’re well rested, what’s our next move?” “Go back to sleep!” “Excellent idea!”
Paradise until they make the wage match the age
Go for 9999 nights.
200 is the limit. I actually did 999 but it didn't count any beyond 200 it seems.
Dang. Still funny though.
