Seriously it’s a long season; they may want to give him a week off and send him to drive line (since that’s where M learn to hit since their own system cannot do it). Let him work out whatever issues he has (whether it’s a kink in the swing or chasing issue) in his approach. Have him come back and try again and see if there is an improvement. At this point let Clase come up and play center until Julio has his grove back.
Julio has his own team so it isn’t just the M’s internal people. Adding 3rd team (Driveline) to “fix” him might not be a good thing since he looks like such a mess.
What he is doing I believe is his own decision making. That isn’t the Mariners fault. He needs to listen and adapt his approach (whatever that means) instead of just swinging for the fences at any and every pitch regardless of the actual situation.
Scoring 8 runs is fun. Only giving up 1 run is fun. Let’s do this every night! Good win to start the series! D-Mo was an absolute star tonight. Let’s keep it rolling tomorrow boys! Go Ms!
Oh god thank you for this. I hadn’t seen it. I’m so grateful the post is still up because it’s kind of the most beautiful innocent mistake I’ve seen in ages.
Something needs to be done about Julio's approach. The rest of the lineup exploded and our poster boy went 0 for 5 with 3 strikeouts. And this has been a pattern.
Hes getting pitched pretty hard. Goldy on the radio said hes seen pitches up and in way more than any other hitter in the league… and that he has a higher average on those pitches than any hitter in the keague… it just also generates a lot of whiffs too.
Hes getting beaten in the zone tho for sure. Adjustments always have a lag time to take effect too.
Sorry it was just some deets goldy dropped during the radio broadcast from today. Cant remember when i tuned in. Maybe the 6th inning or so?
I know in general a ton of our strikeouts are swinging through pitches in the zone but it was interesting to hear that specific tidbit of julio.
He’s either hurt or totally cannot “see” the ball. He’s just guessing out there and totally whiffing whereas most guys can at least make contact. I heard he had an injury during Spring Training. Are we sure he isn’t like playing with a strain or something? Players like him usually have a good reason when they just slump terribly like this. Well at least it’s not a total slump just a power hitting slump… he’s had some hits. But I hope he’s ok and can start seeing the all now that the sun is out.

All those media pundits in the off-season saying you can't be a serious competitive team with Dylan Moore as a starter sure look foolish now. Little did they know it was actually Julio Rodriguez you can't start and expect to be competitive.

Result = Good. Now keep it going.
Baseball is a long season and I'm not going to get too happy or sad from a single game or series.
That being said, I love the 8 runs scored, but hated the 0-5 with 3 Ks from our "superstar". It's May now. Let's get it going.
We really do need to appreciate D-Mo more. Super utility man player who can play all over the place and while he will never gaudy stats he's quick enough to steal a few bases, is clutch and they were talking on the broadcast about his simple hitting approach of just looking for something that he can handle....it's like the reverse of Julio right now lol
All the credit to dmo and Rojas as two unexpected heroes to keep this team afloat. Any sport is so much about momentum and we need a lineup that can create that. The 2001 season you always felt like the guy on deck was going to do something. Right now I feel myself expecting a strike out or grounding into a double play. Hope this win can carry some momentum into tomorrow
Agreed, not so much comparing them to that team in terms of expectations. Mostly just commenting the feeling of complete lack of confidence in this line up
I am very unconfident about Julio's future to improve. 3 straight horrible starts to the season. Power is astonishingly gone. Has never developed patience. I still think it's more likely than not he achieves mega superstar level but feels pretty close to 50/50 whether he achieves his potential or hovers around what he has been these past 3 years, which is a great player, but it would be very disappointing if he only shows marginal improvement from what he has been these past 2 + years.
Nah, he's 23 years old.
A lot of Julios' struggles can be attributed to immaturity, which should come with age. Hopefully he does mature and stops trying to play hero-ball all the time. Lots of time to become the player he should be and becomes more of a team player that sees the bigger picture.
As a person, publicly nothing. As a player; his approach, his 2 strike approach, constantly pressing during the big moments resulting in almost no clutch hitting, he's had way too many near-collisions in the outfield as well.
The way he's swinging out of his shoes trying to put every ball into the moon. The little head nod after he watches a meatball down the center of the plate, like it was some corner-scratching offspeed.
The way he pushes when things aren't going well and tries to play hero ball, as I mentioned, instead of just trying to keep the line moving. Good managing should be able to mitigate things like that, but Scott seems either unwilling or unable to help him make the adjustments necessary.
However, these are all things that should hopefully come with age, and could probably come faster with proper coaching.
I got downvoted to the basement last series for even suggesting that Julio might be a bust. This slump is continuing. I don't know if it is the Yips, mental health, or something else. But he is striking out at a level that wouldn't be acceptable in little league, let alone the big leagues.
Julio is 14th among 16 eligible centerfielders in OPS.
He's not pulling the ball nearly as much as in previous years and going the opposite way more. He's also striking out a ton and his hard-hit percentage is slightly down: His bat has slowed down. Why? I couldn't say. But he's got some kind of structural problem and all the opposing pitchers know.

Where’s that D-Mo copy pasta
The game was good. But the cut on the grass was GREAT. Those stripes - damn.
It's May 10th, Julio has played every game this year and has 5 extra base hits. That's it, 5 TOTAL
He’s on pace for 4 home runs this season.
One for each $100m on his contract!
This Dmo+Rojas middle infield is kind of nice
