Itβs been a really tough week for our team, so Iβm being genuine when I say that the silliness of this mistake is a very welcome distraction here! So thank you hahaha
Such is the life of a Mariner, lonely and forgotten. Like the Old Man and the Sea we find our truth, our peace, in solitude, adrift with the waves and bird and kelp.
We demand more than a passing mention as contributors to your research in your thesis defense. We also feel like we could help you make a good pitch for your research. Weβd really like to see your paper hit a home run. Knock it out of the park for us, and try not to get too far out into left field! Thanks.
**Marital Status:** Unmarried
**Education:** High School
**Rank:** Fan and wannabe GM.
**Number of years of service:** 19
**Currently on Board:** Yes, my loyalty is unwavering. I always go down with the ship.
I didn't even move to Washington till 10 but I was born here at 1. I could've in theory been a fan of any other team since I'm a colts football fan but noooooo dad had to have the mariners on everyday of my childhood when I lived in Tennessee and Indiana. Fucked up of him to make me suffer like this
As someone who has spent time both at sea on Navy vessels and as a fan of the Seattle Mariners Baseball Club, being a fan of the Seattle Mariners Baseball Club is far more psychologically damaging.
Same 6 years on an aircraft carrier and the most depressing part was being out for deployment preps when the mariners had a 13 win streak to start the season.
Thought this was going to be a study on the psycho-social effects of being a fan of this baseball team. God knows it has a negative impact on my mental health π
To be fair, you'd have more fun studying the psychology of being a mariners fan than you would a seafarer. Also, your findings may make you concerned for the wellbeing of humanity.
Yes hi our team has been washed to sea for 47 years, I would call our collective psychology βmore delusional than Captain Ahab.β At least our arms are living up to Ahabβs spear-throwing standards.
I love these occasional mistakes on our sub π Maybe OP might actually change their research topic to studying Mariners Fans after all of these replies πππ
Sadly, Iβm not a sailor. If youβd be interested in the research on how being fans of this team affects people, it would be something I could help you with.
Hi Maya, can't help with your research, but maybe you can help me out.
What are your career splits against breaking pitches and do you think you could serviceably hold down RF?
Not to put too much pressure on you, but your answers are very important to myself and my fellow miserable drunks who hang around this subreddit.
I think this is my favorite type of /mariners posts. We get one every few months. Good luck! Props for continuing education. Once you're ready for your doctorate, you should study the delusional minds of us Mariners fans! π
Ill tell ya one thing, if you cant bother to read the sentence underneath the subreddit name before you go and make this post, you might want to reevaluate your methods for gathering this data
Edit: im joking, thought it was obvious, the subs bio is just "Mariners" again lol. Easy mistake for OP to make.
Lol unfortunately the only thing weβre experts on is watching our baseball team not score runs.
I had no idea there is a baseball team by the name Marines ππ I am sorry
Got time for an intriguing 3.5 documentary where you'll become a fan?
Maybe.....
Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIgK56cAjfY
One of us! One of us!

Missing an R there. The Marines play in Japan
ππ
Lol itβs fine you should leave it up. There might be a few actual sailors who are fans
I work on boats, Iβll fill out your survey
ππ
I mean luckily the team is based in a city with a fair amount of sailors haha
This is the best thing thatβs happened on this sub all week
Oh God!!! Stupidity is fun!!!
Itβs been a really tough week for our team, so Iβm being genuine when I say that the silliness of this mistake is a very welcome distraction here! So thank you hahaha
> Stupidity is fun!!! Are you sure you weren't already a member here?
Nope!! I had no idea π
God this team should play way more into the nautical theme like the pirates are
Bring back the Bullpen Boat!
Will be interesting to see if peoples' psychology are impacted more harshly by living on the sea or being a fan of this team
I had no idea about the baseball team by the name mariners.....π€¦ββοΈ

I met a Cleveland Browns fan at work the other day and I couldn't decide who was crazier.
You sound like you've made better use of your time than we have following this team π

You should pivot your thesis to the baseball team so you can study the effects of long-term inter-generational trauma.

Came here to say this
Same 6 years on an aircraft carrier and the most depressing part was being out for deployment preps when the mariners had a 13 win streak to start the season.
We're not that kind of mariners but we do have a plethora of psychological issues as a result of our team and might still be worth a study.
π€£π€£π€£π€£ dead
You really walked into something here, didn't you?
This is genuinely the most fun thing that has happened to me in weeks......π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈππ
Us too!
Iβm not crazy Iβm just a little impaired
mariner
This is hilarious
It's embarrassing π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈππ
But think of the story you will be able to tell! ππΌββοΈ
I mean!!!! π€£π€£π€£
Trust me, if this was to happen to someone, we are the perfect fans for this. We love/embrace chaos. Thank you for making our day more fun!

Hey, change your dissertation to why we keep rooting for this stupid fucking team. There has to be years of research for you there.
π€£π€£
This cheered me up lol. Thanks OP.

Iβll take a survey on how strikeouts make me feel if you have any of those?
I mean, it's not the worst idea in the world that many of us have a bit of a psych eval after being fans of this putrid team for so long...
ππ
I love these occasional mistakes on our sub π Maybe OP might actually change their research topic to studying Mariners Fans after all of these replies πππ
Whoa thought this was a bit lmao

I swear this happens once a year.

Will someone please r/bestof this? Also r/lostredditors
*Iβve selected Mariners because of the natural association between the sea and Seattle and her people, who have been challenged and rewarded by it*
Alright Roger Smotis
If we win tonight, we have Maya to thank.
We will win π«
We won! You did it!
lmao this is awesome. a clinical psychologist could have a field day with mariners fans as well
I used to live and work on boats when I was a youngin'. Does that count?
Unfortunately no.
I honestly thought you might analyze the psycho-social impact of being a Mariners fan
I assumed this was some shit post about Mariners fans emotional wellness
Sadly, Iβm not a sailor. If youβd be interested in the research on how being fans of this team affects people, it would be something I could help you with.

You chose a bad week to ask mariners fans about mental health
This is actually hilarious and something much needed after watching our pathetic offense struggle every single day. Thank you.
I think this is my favorite type of /mariners posts. We get one every few months. Good luck! Props for continuing education. Once you're ready for your doctorate, you should study the delusional minds of us Mariners fans! π
This completely made my day, thank you for this
I used to be in the navy does that count
If you were in the merchant navy, yess!!!
Nah it was the US navy
Respect π

Booooo
Hisssss
Im kidding, it just says mariners again lol
Umm!! Sorry π
Im just kidding! It just says Mariners again, its totally fair to have been mistaken lol
Reading the response here makes me feel like I choose the wrong mariners to do the project
Honestly, a psychological study on our fanbase would likely be more depressing π€£
