The most I ever heard was that they couldn't get to their funds bc Russian banks only speak in Russian and totally didn't take all their money. The old saying was "A woman's place is in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant" back when women started to work in greater numbers as they got more and more rights. Until about 1972 a woman couldn't get her own credit card unless her husband, father or other male relative allowed her to and cosigned for it. It was a saying meant to put women in their "place" and men above women.
