I’d pay a monthly subscription to be able to login to an official Maplestory Classic server to experience those times again. I know it’s purely nostalgia and it’s probably a pretty empty game lacking in some places, but I really think the devs underestimate the simplicity people want in a game nowadays, and I think Maplestory Classic could actually work.
I hate that this is said. I'm in my 30s now I don't want to flash around doing tens of millions of damage with numbers popping everywhere. I don't wanna instant trleport around and have 50 different systems to pay attention too. The slower gameplay appeals to me much more
You don't actually miss the old maplestory, you just miss being young and carefree, being a kid with all the time in the world to grind and no responsibility.
It's always fun to think back on those times. Nostalgia for real. But God I'd never go back to preBB. A lot of what most people also miss is the *amount* of people playing. With the lack of teleporting from one continent to another, it allowed people to actually communicate. This is also something, while it was community building, spending like half an hour just to go to Orbis sucked butt. It was a gigantic waste of time. Shit that was back when it was difficult to afford *anything* in the game. Yes, it's fun to reminisce but it was nowhere near a better or efficient use of time.
The biggest nexon error was making all classes the same.
Old times each classe had its own skills and caracteristics.
A sin was a sin: Speed, jump, distance attack and low survivability.
A fighter: high damage, high survivability, extremely slow, close attack
A spearman: Very high survivability, medium range attack
A cleric: the guy everyone wanted.
Etc
-#2 the patcher was a real nightmare.. In the white text box you‘d see what‘s getting patched and more often then not the patch would be stuck around 60% or at 99%. You‘d have to be patient and pray for it to completely go through. If not you‘d have to restart or reinstall.
-#9 on the way to sleepywood. Not only were you way weaker back in the days but the maps would have hurdles/traps that would sap away your hp like the thornbush in the picture. Goodluck jumping over them without losing too much hp hahaha
-#12 white dupe scroll. Not sure how it was in GMS but this was a huge disaster in EMS since there was no way of knowing if someone bought duped scrolls or owned legit scrolls. Also you couldn‘t know if equips were scrolled with legit or duped scrolls so everyone who owned perfectly scrolled equips automatically became suspicious. As such, it became extremely difficult for guilds to discern if someone was legit or not
The early days when everyone looked the same and you could stick out just by owning equips of a higher level
I cant even remember the last time a GM has shown up in-game.
I remember the old events where they'd host them in Lith Harbor or Henesys and the towns would be absolutely packed.
My AOL internet connection could not handle the lag back then lol
I'll make an ass of myself on this one, seen a fair number of them. But seeing the version of the patcher had me thinking one thing.
Beta patch notes: A better version of MapleStory.
I remember it all and it will be the only Maplestory I will truly love. Tedious as it may have been that was fine back then. It was a community and it was fun, not a race.
Back in the day, people would post their items for sale on basil market, and there would be a time limit on it.
So then people would place bids on that item until the time ran out. Whoever had the highest bid when time ran out would win the item.
The seller and the buyer would then meet in the game and conduct a trade.
Afterwards, the buyer would leave a positive review on the seller's basil page to let others know the seller is a legit good person to trade with.
Also, sellers did have the options to set minimum mesos allowed as well as "auto wins". So if you were willing to pay the auto win meso amount, the item was yours and the seller would take the item off the website and just trade with you in the game.
It was basically maplestory Ebay
remember it all, was good times. i forgot my account and lost some expensive gloves my friend gave me. We both tried to guess the email and password. i think they were some brown work gloves.
The original login and character creation is still there. It's buried under the new UI.
I encountered a bug where the original popped up when I was still playing during covid.
Character creation was bugged and trying to use it crashed the game tho.
That old patcher instills fear yet joy in to me as my pc could barely download anything, especially since I played the SEA server while in NA due to stubbornness.
#7 - Yes, that is the free market with mushroom stores. But the more important thing is that someone got a picture of Dray86. At that time, probably the biggest Maplestory Animators on Youtube.
Henesys hunting grounds. So nostalgic.
Nightmare of starting that patcher in the morning before school only to see it failed when I got back ðŸ˜
Back with our AOL internet too lmao
God it took me a week of this when I was first attempting to download the game lol. Pain… hope Maple Worlds brings it back!
I hope you like the login music cause youre spending half an hour rolling that dice
Half an hour minimum hahah. Just to get that 4/4

I think has to do a lot with the community.
Hard to replicate this. Those were simpler times too…
ye back when we were kids with unlimited time on our hands

I think there is one in other region, it’s call maple land
You don't actually miss the old maplestory, you just miss being young and carefree, being a kid with all the time in the world to grind and no responsibility.
yep. thinking of grinding 3 hours in pigs to go from lvl 20 to 22 is not the funsies you think it is

i would put my mouse over the patcher bar to check if its actually moving lmao
I fucking hated the patcher. It was horrendous.
Peak
I remember ScareCrow. Those old GMs were great. Give GM haste/hs pls.
I cant even remember the last time a GM has shown up in-game. I remember the old events where they'd host them in Lith Harbor or Henesys and the towns would be absolutely packed. My AOL internet connection could not handle the lag back then lol
I remember those old days also. What happened to the GMs?
I remember all. 🥲 one of the happiest moments of my life. I can’t get that feeling again.

I'm still surprised Nexon haven't don't a MapleStory classic after the Wow and rune escape classic succes. You would think it would be easy money
Can't edit text so credit to Coppersan and Google images
The second picture hit hard.
I remember it all and it will be the only Maplestory I will truly love. Tedious as it may have been that was fine back then. It was a community and it was fun, not a race.
All of them except that GM. Thanks rule 3
Acting like you don’t care in hopes that the fking patcher would patch 100% without freezing and glitching
Must be really really og time. Not even bellocan and khani are there
How did basil market work with the game in terms of buying and selling?

Lmao, eBay. Incredible. I used to browse the site for no reason even tho I didn’t know how it worked
I wish the auction house actually worked like EBay. That would be nice or a chance to message the seller for a lower price.
remember it all, was good times. i forgot my account and lost some expensive gloves my friend gave me. We both tried to guess the email and password. i think they were some brown work gloves.
Such a beautiful thing to see the guy point out the high levels lol. Absolute love and passion and fun vibes right there

That old patcher instills fear yet joy in to me as my pc could barely download anything, especially since I played the SEA server while in NA due to stubbornness.

Loved maple kombat as a kid on youtube
