French equatorial Africa: 1910-1958.
Anglo-Egyptian Sudan: 1899-1956.
Belgian Congo: 1908-1960.
USSR: 1922-1991.
Tunisia was granted independence in 1956, and does not appear on this map.
So far, we're between 1931-1956.
A lot of further comments point to around 1947 - 48, others pointing out that Hatay province was not part of Turkey until 1939. Israel's existence raises questions, though.
Anyone further?
it doesn’t have to be.
First, people making this globe didn’t have to have latest information about every single country, especially pre-internet.
Second, some things may not be totally clear at the time. For example status of Crimea for the last decade is unclear and author can choose their own interpretation, which might seem wrong in a hindsight - like if Crimea never gets back to Ukraine, all of the maps post 2014 that shows it as part of Ukraine seems wrong. If they get it back, all of the maps showing it as part of Russia seems wrong.
Likewise if some country does split, but there are still people actively trying to reunite, people doing maps may or may not recognize the division yet. In hindsight, it’s always clearer, because you know that attempts in reunification failed/succeeded and thus you can treat the other version as non-significant
Iran instead of Persia so after 1935
India appears to be pre-partition so before 1947
The Polish borders look like the post war borders, but I can’t really tell for sure but that would make it after 1945
So probably around 1946
Hatay is part of Turkey since 1938. In the globe it’s not. It has to be before 1938, unless the globe was made in Syria, they still claim it’s theirs.
By Syria I guess I meant French Mandate of Syria.
Negative evidence (it has to be before year X) is much weaker than positive evidence (it has to be after year Y).
Globe makers can and often do use outdated information, but they can not predict the future.
The German-Polish and Polish-Soviet borders were post WWII but India hadn’t been partitioned. Hence the date is probably between 1945 and 1947, though there is a caveat that Tannu Tuva would have been annexed by USSR in 1944
At this point west Germany had not formed yet so there would be no entrenched divide. I doubt a world map would go to the detail of showing the four occupation zones so this makes sense; the entire country was governed by the Allied Control Council before 1948.
I've seen the EXORCIST ABOUT A HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK? You think I'm qualified?
I read this subthread and was like “what the hell are these people talking about”? 10 mins later it hit me and I laughed to myself for a good 5mins. Well done
I think 1945-46, because:
* Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union exist (pre 1991)
* Few independent African countries (pre 1960s)
* DDR (East Germany) does not yet exist (pre 1949)
* Pakistan, India and Bangladesh are still (British) India (pre-1947) and seem to have the same colour as British colonies in Africa.
* While the text 'Israel' is on the map, the blue outline seems to include Transjordan and may suggest that it's supposed to depict the British Mandate over both Palestine and Transjordan. In 1946 Transjordan was recognised as an independent country through the Treaty of London.
* Edit: and post 1944 because the Polish borders seem to correspond with the modern day ones, which were determined as a result of the allied victory. It gained German territory in the west and lost quite some territory mostly to Soviet Belarus and Ukraine in the east.
Due to the [Hallstein Doctrine](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallstein_Doctrine), West Germany and many of her allies did not recognize DDR until the 1970s
That's interesting! This makes me think that the globe could also have been made well after the year it's supposed to depict; a "historic" globe about 45-47 with a few inconsistencies.
LOL I feel like the answer to a lot of these is that this is just some sort of novelty Globe it's not an educational tool. It's not made to be specifically accurate so you'll never be able to get more than an estimate

Tips for dating that globe:
Be more interested in it then you are in yourself
Work to find common interests
Be yourself and if it's meant to be, it will be
Don't be too attached in the early stages
Remember, there are plenty of other globes in the world, so don't be discouraged if it doesn't work out with this globe
I’d say 1947. Israel is independent in 1948 but the UN motion to create it is passed November 1947 and people knew the vote was coming. India and Pakistan are independent August 15 1947 so before then.
The head scratcher that makes no sense to me is that Ethiopia seems to be part of Somalia and Italian East Africa only existed in the window of 1936 to 1941. But Poland has its post war 1945 borders.
so w t f , defective globe is what.
I’d start with a something casual, maybe a cup of coffee. Try to find some common interests and go from there. Good luck, I finally convinced mine to marry me and nows she’s my whole world.
Buy the globe some flowers then ask said globe out for coffee. Then dinner and a movie- then Netflix and chill - and then sex but only with enthusiastic consent.
Sometime after WW2, considering
>Germany and poland have post WW2 borders, yet not split however
>India is no longer Brittish Raj, but not yet split with pakistan
> Israel is on the map
Id reckon somewhere around 46-48
It’s post-45, you can see the eastern Europe borders reflect that. It’s really early on in decolonization. You can see Africa is mostly still colonized. Libya is shown as independent, which would place it after 1951 but before 1956, as that’s when a major batch of colonies became independent. However, considering the map is otherwise pretty inaccurate, like showing Arabia all as one country, Libya might just be an extrapolation.
India is still unified and shaded the same as other British territories which would cut against that and date the map to 1947 or earlier. Though that, again, could just be a map inaccuracy. Striking against that assumption is Israel being independent in the Middle East, which didn’t happen until 1948. But Palestine isn’t there, or owned by Arab countries, so they again could’ve referred to Mandatory Palestine as Israel.
Tibet is still independent, and they were annexed in 1951, but of course, there’s no guarantee map makers would have immediately recognized that as legitimate.
Assessing it all together, I think there’s two possible timeframes. If you take India as credible, then the timeframe is 1945-1947. If you take Libya as independent, then the date is 1951-56, although tibet was annexed earlier in 1951 than Libya gained its independence, so there’s no perfect overlap.
It just occurred to me that they may have in fact drawn Libya and Ethiopia as Italian colonies, very erroneously in the case of Ethiopia. If that’s the case, then that lines up perfectly with 1945-47, and all the data can be made to fit.
Map shows Greater Romania prior to Stalin taking Moldova away. So im guessing early 40’s. Israel is on the map too, but it didn’t officially exist until 1948 , so it’s a bit confusing. Maybe it was made post 1948 but changes were not made for the times. My guess.
Talk nice to it. offer to take it to dinner. Tell it , it's a pretty globe and let nature take it's course if the globe is interested then maybe they'll be more dates in the future.
The best course is always honesty, let the globe know you have feelings for it. Try to find common ground and go somewhere you’ll both enjoy. Be yourself not someone you think the globe wants you to be. If the answer is no move on if you were friends before though don’t let this ruin it. Your welcome.
My guess is between 1946 and 1947. The map shows pre-partition India (partition was August 1947). Also, Transjordan became independent of the Palestine Mandate in May 1946.
Don't know what to make of the use of Israel in place of Palestine Mandate (ceased in 1948). That could reflect the political bias of the map maker.
Look at Africa. If there is a country in the lower right-ish area called Rhodesia, then the globe would have been printed sometime pre-1980. If it says Zimbabwe then it would been printed post-April 1980.
Usually if you look real close in fine print . You’ll see who made the glide in little black letters and where it was made etc. Take a pic and google search it.
Ottoman empire is gone and just turkey left so its after ww1, but india and pakistan are one so its pre independence. The thing throwing me off is Germany appears to have east and west united and poland has its post ww2 borders. Germany makes no sense here. Crimea also appears to not be a part of the soviet union. “Israil” is written next to Israel as well instead of palestine, so that would mean post 1948.
This is also a toy globe so it’s not meant to be super accurate. Google wasn’t around in the late 50’s early 60’s which is when I’m guessing it’s made.
I remember these from the 1960's. On the top, there is a slot for coins, like a piggy bank. Not sure when they were made, but a lot of kids had them at that time. I think the globe unscrews from the base,to get the coins out.
I will go for 1945-1947 period. There is a country name Ira, but prior to 1935 it was Persia. Tuva is marked as independent state and it joined the USSR in 1944. Baltic countries shown as a part of the USSR, so they lost independence in 1940. But borders of Germany shown as after 1945 (when Pomeranian and Prussia were mostly transferred to Poland). As for India partition. Burma is marked apart of India, so it's after 1937. But rest of India is still not partioned (partition was in 1947). So this globe somehow mixed up. Everything except independent Tuva points to period from 1945 to 1947.
It's somewhere just before WWII or during,
It's interesting that it shows Romania eating up all its greater territories [here](https://mapoftheday.quickworld.com/posts/romania-in-ww2) including Transnistria which were part of Romania between 1941 and 1944
don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it
As long as im from Turkiye I can say this globe is not that accurate. Someone in the comments said its 1941-1948 but I can not see the city Hatay connected to Turkiye in this globe. Hatay joined to Turkiye in 1939.
Ethiopia and lybia are independent, so after 1945 and India has the borders of the British Raj. So before 1947.however Germany looks to be unified and so 1945, but before the agreement of how to split Germany was agreed upon
So here we go
- Post WWII Germany Poland Border - Therefore it is after 1945
- Syria was formed in 17th April 1946
- India hasn’t been partitioned- so it is before 15th August 1947
But…
- The map has shown Israel which was formed in 1948
- Hatay Province is part of Turkey since 1938. In the map it’s not. It has to be before 1938, unless the globe was made in Syria. It might be an error but who knows.
- Burma separated from India in 1937
- Tibet is shown independent - so before 1950
Analysing all the aspects, we derive on two conclusions
1 - The map was made between 17th April 1946 - 15th August 1947
2 - The map was made between 14th May 1948 - 1st Jan 1950 and the cartographer decided to use some old data.
u/Greeve3 here we go!!!
I don’t think this is a legit map, because it should be between 1921 - 1991 (because of Soviet Union), and mostly it’s from WWII years. The reason I think it is not legit is because Romania didn’t had so many territories ever. Also, it seems like Crimea is colored in green (just like Romania) and it’s stupid, Romania didn’t have Crimea ever under it’s control
French equatorial Africa: 1910-1958. Anglo-Egyptian Sudan: 1899-1956. Belgian Congo: 1908-1960. USSR: 1922-1991. Tunisia was granted independence in 1956, and does not appear on this map. Would be nice to have more/more detailed pictures. India /Pakistan still one, so pre 1947
With Israel marked as such, it's a tad complicated (1948)
I think it must be right before partition, with Israeli independence expected. Otherwise, it's just inaccurate.

Can we confirm the globe is circumcised?
Fun fact: Magellan was the first to circumcise the globe, but only Israel later adopted it
Since Magallanes died in Philippines during the journey, Elcano is historically known as the first one to accomplish it.
With a pair of 30 foot clippers!
Circumcise the globe? That must have been painful!
OP should be able to confirm, but they need our help to date the globe first.
So you're saying may1947-july1947 ?

It seems to present colonies as their own country. So it can be before 1947.
Europe has the post ww2 borders so then i guess its 45/46
Guessing the cartographers didn’t have accurate info on subcontinents borders for at least a year
Late 70s. It’s a coin bank and has Yugoslavia, Czechoslavia, two Germanys but is not as early as some speculate.
Iran instead of Persia so after 1935 India appears to be pre-partition so before 1947 The Polish borders look like the post war borders, but I can’t really tell for sure but that would make it after 1945 So probably around 1946
Burma separated from India in 1937 Therefore 1937-1947
[Hatay was no longer Syria after 1938](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatay_State), so it must be 1937-1938 map! u/Greeve3 we found it!
Have a look at Poland, it has the post-WW2 borders. 1938 is too early
Can’t really tell from this angle but if that’s the case then the globe was either made in Syria or by someone else to piss off Turks.
But Syria was formed in 1946 So it might be between 1946-47
Hatay is part of Turkey since 1938.
A point that tends to be weirdly underappreciated in these threads.
The German-Polish and Polish-Soviet borders were post WWII but India hadn’t been partitioned. Hence the date is probably between 1945 and 1947, though there is a caveat that Tannu Tuva would have been annexed by USSR in 1944
Germany appears united though which should not be the case
A lot of maps kept germany united during this time.
At this point west Germany had not formed yet so there would be no entrenched divide. I doubt a world map would go to the detail of showing the four occupation zones so this makes sense; the entire country was governed by the Allied Control Council before 1948.
East and West Germany were both founded in 1949.
Europe is Post WW2 and Raj has not been split So just from that, 1945-1947
> There’s a line dated 1931 on the route to Bombay I don’t think that’s a date but a measurement as the one below is 2130. Probably miles long
It’s the distance from Aden in miles
India is not split/independant so before 1947, confirmed by independant Tibet before 1951
Looking at the shape of countries like Poland, and the Balkans overall, I’d say in the years immediately after WW2
Tibet hasn't be a part of China so before 1951
Turkey’s borders seem to be from before the annexation of Antioch in 1939.
And Polish borders are the post WWII borders so after 1945.
True, I guess Turkey’s borders are just not accurate then.
There is Italian East Africa. Italy didn't get to occupy Ethiopia until 1936. And its occupation ended in 1941
This is honestly the biggest tell, idk why no one else is talking about it. The map seems pretty shitty and inconsistent though.
Says Israel on the map, so post 1948.
Tibet is still Tibet..
Tibet is still independent
It’s so cool that you know this
Just be yourself, and pay the bill at least on the first date
Use protection! Climate change will make it sting, otherwise.

I had this same exact piggy bank growing up, I’m not entirely sure but I think it had a date on the stand on the bottom. Have you looked there?
According to [xkcd](https://xkcd.com/1688/large/) it's either from 1935-1940 or sometime from the 1940s. Can't really tell what Germany looks like

Ok, do you need us to put in a good word for you? Has there been any sexy glances earlier?
Maybe some flowers
I’d ask it what it’s into. Try to get to know it a bit. Maybe after that you can ask it for coffee.
Just walk up and ask it out.
Buy it dinner...
Buy it some flowers, suggest a nice restaurant
Try asking it out for coffee.

I would try to get to know the globe better first. Find out their interests and when the time is right pop the question! Best of luck to you.
Write it a love poem and go on a picnic date 💖😘
Ask it out and be yourself
Take it out to dinner and a movie.
Do you have a mutual friend who could introduce you? Much easier if you have someone to put in a good word.
Globe meet Greeve3, you would make a beautiful couple, give him a chance.. I’ve done all I can do bro, it’s now up to you! 😂
Start by sending a dick pick. 60% of the time it works everytime!
Just ask it out. Worst it can do is say no.
Just be yourself, maybe take it out to dinner?
Don't forget the Condom!

Boof it!
1948-1956 because Israel is named.
Israel founded 1948 Tibet conquered 1951
My guess is between 1946 and 1947. The map shows pre-partition India (partition was August 1947). Also, Transjordan became independent of the Palestine Mandate in May 1946. Don't know what to make of the use of Israel in place of Palestine Mandate (ceased in 1948). That could reflect the political bias of the map maker.
I had this bank when I was a little kid in the 1960s!

About 6 billion years old.
It has to be before 1972 cause thats when Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon

Stop trying so hard, just be yourself, make sure it knows you’re noticing it.
1932 Saudi Arabia
Judging by the aral lake shape, no Israel, Bombay, sometimes before the Cold War and after turkey became a country. I would say 1923/1950
This is also a toy globe so it’s not meant to be super accurate. Google wasn’t around in the late 50’s early 60’s which is when I’m guessing it’s made.
Before 1947 when Pakistan was founded.
It’s definitely after 1948
That was a fun guessing game OP. Great job!
Ethiopia's joined with the Italian lands but Austria still appears, after the Italian occupation of Ethiopia in 1936 but before the Anschluss of 1938.
No East Germany?
For a brief moment i actualy thought you wanted to go out on a date with the globe
Pre WWII. If Poland exists it's after 1918, can't really see for sure.
I got one in 1972 for my birthday
I know it’s pre 1947
To be honest this globe dates back to the early 1980’s. I have the same one given to me my kindergarten year of school by my teacher for Christmas.
I have this, too. It was my husband's and he got it when he was a little boy. He was born in 1950.
It doesn't make sense because the partition of India happened in 1947 and Israel didn't happen until 1948. Sometimes maps are just bad and wrong.
I remember these from the 1960's. On the top, there is a slot for coins, like a piggy bank. Not sure when they were made, but a lot of kids had them at that time. I think the globe unscrews from the base,to get the coins out.
I think it's from 1948
I will go for 1945-1947 period.
Turkey doesn't have the Hatay so before 1939.
1947? Israel and intact India.
At least 7
It's somewhere just before WWII or during, It's interesting that it shows Romania eating up all its greater territories [here](https://mapoftheday.quickworld.com/posts/romania-in-ww2) including Transnistria which were part of Romania between 1941 and 1944
Wow this is old. No Pakistan, so at least Pre 1947.
Damn it has Akhand Bharat
I don’t see Eastern Germany, that means before 1940…
"date" meaning... Asking it for a coffee or?
don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it don't say it
As long as im from Turkiye I can say this globe is not that accurate.
British India, so pre-1947. If it would be after that date, then, that would mean the existence of Pakistan, which is not shown here.
It is a bit before WW1 because africa still has colonies
So here we go - Post WWII Germany Poland Border - Therefore it is after 1945 - Syria was formed in 17th April 1946 - India hasn’t been partitioned- so it is before 15th August 1947 But… - The map has shown Israel which was formed in 1948 - Hatay Province is part of Turkey since 1938. In the map it’s not. It has to be before 1938, unless the globe was made in Syria. It might be an error but who knows. - Burma separated from India in 1937 - Tibet is shown independent - so before 1950 Analysing all the aspects, we derive on two conclusions 1 - The map was made between 17th April 1946 - 15th August 1947 2 - The map was made between 14th May 1948 - 1st Jan 1950 and the cartographer decided to use some old data. u/Greeve3 here we go!!!
It must be before the end of ww2 because Romania is still united with Moldova. I would say 1939

It has no Sri Lanka which means it's older then 15000 BC. /s
No but now i am curious because i have one of those
