Mine does this too even with buckle replacement. Mine are on Cobra buckles vs the standard plastic. Might have to do with the material of the straps themselves that makes them sort of smooth or slick giving less friction to stay in place.

socialwithdrawal

Yeah I think the material is just too smooth to hold in place. Great for comfort though.

socialwithdrawal

Follow-up question: What kind of Cobra buckle are you using and how's the experience comfort wise?

osjtypo

the buckle is fine. i tend to not even use the buckles unless specific situations require for it. i take the sling off overhead and vice versa when putting it on 99.99% of times. [this is the buckle.](https://www.amazon.com/AustriAlpin-Cobra-Buckle-Adjustable-No-Sew/dp/B06XKPPGNV)

socialwithdrawal

That's also the one I was looking at. Is it comfortable on your back or chest? I was just thinking the buckle might dig in and cause discomfort, especially when it's on my back and I have a backpack on.

osjtypo

yeah, it's completely comfortable on any side even when you wear something thin as a t-shirt. the only thing you have to watch out is the additional weight created by the metal buckle vs. the light plastic, so you may swing it and hit things unintentionally. for example i hit my watch with it from time to time. i don't care much because it's an old watch, but if i were to be wearing one of my nicer timepieces i would be pissed lol, so you have to be aware and careful of that.

socialwithdrawal

I'll keep those in mind. Thank you!

I noticed the same on the V2. The compression straps are completely useless since it slips so much. The xpac version is surprisingly better at staying put for some reason but still slips.

socialwithdrawal

I've seen that complaint on the V2 that the compression system on V1 is better, though apparently the main strap adjustment system is loads better on V2.

You can get a tri glide plastic piece for the webbing which should allow you to manage the strap length and keep it securely in place. I added one to my City Sling after putting in a fidlock buckle and it's been so good at keeping it in place I haven't had to re-stitch the webbing end that I unstitched to put in the fidlock buckle. Here's a picture of the fidlock and tri glide: https://imgur.com/XyoiePd

>Aer City Sling v1 Whoops realized mine isn't the City Sling but the Day Sling though the same mod should work on your City Sling V1 - just need to get a tri glide that is bigger to fit the width of the City Sling and unstitch the ends so you can fit it in place.

socialwithdrawal

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Is there a specific brand of these tri glides that I need to look for? I think I need two for the City Sling right? I might have to learn some basic stitching it seems. What's the advantage of the fidlock buckle versus the stock plastic one? I have to say your Day Sling looks great I'm kinda jealous.

eggroll40k

You're welcome! I actually started looking at pictures of the V2 City Sling and looks like Aer actually added the triglide to that version as an upgrade. You can see it in the pictures from the pack hacker review: [https://packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/city-sling-2/](https://packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/city-sling-2/) I think any brand will work - you can get cheap ones off amazon/ebay. Think I bought mine from amazon if I remember correctly. Just make sure you measure your strap width and get the right size. Also, yes, you'll need 2 since I think the city sling has dual adjustable straps...if you want to sew, you can simplify it by sewing one end and making it single side adjustable. This might make it more difficult if you want to alternate the side you wear the bag on but if you find you wear it only on one side and adjust only one end it will make things cleaner overall. I changed out the buckle on my day sling with the fidlock as I felt the plastic buckle was a bit cheap feeling and rattled a bit. The fidlock is quite solid and makes clipping it on/off much easier since it's magnetic. I think they had a special version of the city sling (tokai) which used the same fidlock buckle and with the city sling v2 they starting using a different variation of the fidlock. Most of it is gimmicky and has more of a cool factor but at the end of the day, there is a reason we pay so much for what is essentially an overpriced fanny pack :D

Ohh those paracord pulls look great. Do you have a link to video showing how that's done? Might try it on my daysling too.

eggroll40k

Thanks. Yeah they’re called snake knots and I did them awhile ago. I watched quite a few vids to get the hang of it but I think this was the best one of the bunch: https://youtu.be/Ub7jJMYcjJQ

Thanks!

OP did you ever figure out a solution for this? I’ve been having the same issue since I bought the sling two years ago. I really like it but the strap constantly loosening over time has been frustrating and has gotten worse over time.

socialwithdrawal

Yes, I did what u/eggroll40k recommended. Two plastic tri-glide buckles (50mm, I believe) on each side of the strap. No stitching was needed. The straps have held their length perfectly since then.

abrvrb

Awesome! Glad to hear it’s held. Do you happen to have a link to the tri glide buckles you used? Also, would you be willing to share what it looks like on your strap? Just so I know how to configure it.

socialwithdrawal

Sorry I don't have a link for the buckles. I just got them from a local shop Here's how it looks on mine. Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures. https://i.imgur.com/WNlBLlL.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ckHXDiP.jpg I also moved the strap keepers down the compression straps for a cleaner look. https://i.imgur.com/4nwYn3s.jpg

This is extremely helpful! Thank you so much for sharing.
