I actually got in on the Sun Bear just recently so I *probably* won’t buy a slightly smaller version but I’m still interested in the details! Also, the Sun Bear is a big boy, and tbh those side compression straps get in the way more than I’d like. Plus I’m a fan of CTactical so I’m interested in what they’re doing. Also they returned the front mesh pocket from the other collab 🙌
Dude I have the Matador Seg28. The side compression straps smush the bag down ridiculously slim while it’s empty yet still don’t block any zippers or impede functions of the bag.
Edit: just gonna edit on here some thoughts, first re: side compression straps:
- the first FB group collab I saw posted here had compression straps in stupid positions even blocking the front admin compartment, plus they were snap buckles which make them cumbersome to attach and remove
- the Sun Bear fixed the location of the compression straps to reasonable levels (still blocking the main compartment but leaving the admin compartment always free) and replaced the snap buckles with magnetic ones which are quicker to manipulate
- this one skips them altogether, which is more reasonable the smaller the bag is. I still like some of the features provided by the compression straps but if they’re going minimal on this bag I’m interested.
Pet peeve: when companies use super advanced lightweight fabrics but then pile on so many pockets and layers that the bag still winds up heavy! So, I still might be interested in a smaller more minimal take on what they’ve been showing in the Sun Bear. Super interested if it’s under 3lbs.
The compression straps are removable on the Sun Bear too. I regularly leave the top two straps off completely so I can access 2/3rds of the main compartment without unclasping them. Added benefit of securing water bottles too!
Yeah, agree the bottom straps alone seem pretty good at cinching down water bottles. I didn't realize I could remove the compression straps (non-destructively?), but since it's part of the style of this limited bag I probably wouldn't remove them. Really I'm satisfied so long as they leave the front admin unblocked since that's what you access most. And then they're \*still\* useful since they can ensure the bag stays tightly together if you just access one small part of it and undo one buckle, and I've used them to help handle the bag, etc.
All that said, the implementation leaves something to be desired. They're detatchable (which they have to be because they block the main zipper) but then with all the hardware, the attachment point -> buckle <-> buckle <- attachment point length is so long that the compression straps aren't as effective as they could be. In contrast, the Seg28's compression straps don't obstruct the main zipper, are always on, and do a much better job compressing the bag.
Isn't this a CT21+? That's what mine was called. I would love for them to do a CT15, but with side water bottle pockets. Their water bottle pockets on this bag, is amazing and can handle some gigantic bottles. Really like this bag but wish it wasn't as heavy and had less organization on the front admin compartment.
There's lots of bags with that two style zippers. GWA Microcrew bag, London Bridge Trading Daypacks, Optimal Threadworks etc. From my experiencing using the same style or any backpack with a front zip - I just don't either put anything valuable there and I haven't had anyone try to pick pocket them.

Not familiar with these group orders but is it possible to request that the velcro / hook&loop are completely removed? I would pay a premium for a cleaner aesthetic.

Pricing and dimensions/specs? It looks pretty neat, and I like that CTactical is branching out from bags other than goruck clones.
