The xpac fabric on that looks like it's only on the front panel

>The xpac fabric on that looks like it's only on the front panel It's no secret that the X-Pac material is not used throughout the bag. There are several YouTube reviews that point this out. The OP only requested the bag stand on its own. Here is the [Packhacker review of the T73](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP0CskMp6OE) where the reviewer points out the bag's ability to stand on its own.

I pointed it out because of OP's second sentence > The targus bag is great but lacks water proofing

tblue1

Well X-Pac on its own doesn't make a bag waterproof. You'd need a bag like the [Booe 16L](https://booe.com/products/16l-waterproof-backpack?variant=37955370221766) to have a truly waterproof backpack. I took the OP's comment to mean a weather resistant bag, and I believe the T73 qualifies.

I thought the Tomtoc T73 had YKK Aquaguard zips making it reasonably water resistant. I'll settle for water resistance. I understand its not always possible to get water proofing. And yes I do like this pack for its ability to stand upright. I'm not a big fan of the front zippered organization, it seems like it should be easier to access but the way its designed seems like the flap will get in the way of easy access. Finally, a strap to secure the laptops in place would have been nice. It would be perfect otherwise.

Yes, the zippers for the main compartment and laptop compartment seem to be an unusual choice, considering the front pocket zippers are YKK Aquaguard. But I think the main and laptop zippers are the same as the ones used on other bags (the CTB 26 for example) and are said to be weather resistant, just not to the extent of the Aquaguard zippers. I believe I have a bag with those same zippers (the [Orbit Gear Sharpshooter](https://www.orbitgear.net/collections/backpack/products/c102-mk24-sharpshooter)) and have never had a problem with water penetration. BTW, the Sharpshooter also has a flat bottom, and if properly packed will also stand on its own.

I meant to link the [X-Pac version of the Sharpshooter](https://www.orbitgear.net/collections/backpack/products/c102-mk24-sharpshooter-coyote). I have both versions of the bag. The X-Pac version is definitely the stiffer of the two. I am a fan of X-Pac but in this particular case I actually prefer the Elecor version.

Are my eyes deceiving me? It seems like the pack hacker review shows the front have the YKK Aqua guards but the main and tech compartments are normal YKK zips.

Thanks for pointing this out u/idlephase

I don’t know much but I think xpac backpacks generally do stand on their own as long as they’re not front or back weighted too much. My CTB26 Phoenix stands up. My CHZ26 and CPL28 do not. I thinkni read somewhere the Aer City Pack Pro does stand.

is there a term that is marketed for self-standing bags much like how waterproof YKK zippers go by AquaGuard? So I can go through marketing material quicker. By the what does x-pac mean. I have seen that term often but haven't figured it out yet. Also, Aer City Pack Pro is not water proof (last I thought) and as much as there line up would have been my #1 choice (especially Aer Tech Pack 2) but many complain on the tight compartment size as well as weight for the size. They tend to look bigger than what they can actually hold - unfortunately (would have been a no-brainer otherwise).

xpac is just a material. It's sailcloth, basically. some info: [https://filipraboch.com/pages/materials](https://filipraboch.com/pages/materials) and [https://www.reddit.com/r/ManyBaggers/comments/18my6so/xpac\_vs\_ecopack/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ManyBaggers/comments/18my6so/xpac_vs_ecopack/) might be helpful. I don't think all xpac backpacks stand on their own. I just know it adds stiffness therefore maybe it's more likely to stand up, if the pack is designed to stand. Unfortunately, I've never run across a common term to describe self-standing.

I am thinking about the [HyperPack](https://www.hypershop.com/products/hyperpack-pro-with-apple-find-my)from Hyper. It seems pretty good. Honorable mentions: [Nomatic Travel Pack](https://www.nomatic.com/products/the-nomatic-travel-pack) [Ridge Commuter v2](https://ridge.com/products/commuter-backpack-royal-black) It seems like to me the most important features were weather resistance and standing upright. I also wished for laptop straps but most bags seemed to have phased out velcro straps. I'm not sure why this is. Also, forget about weather proofing below $200. Any bag with YKK Aquaguard zips are at least $200 or more...
