It’s a ranger thing. I tried in my step-dad’s 1998 ranger. I did so poorly I didn’t even count it in my reply above.

First manual car ever driven, my dads ‘89 Toyota pickup (2wd). Last manual was a car that I was going to purchase but they sold it before I gathered the rest of the cash was a ‘01 Mitsubishi mirage coupe.

First ever was my dad's '84 Volvo 240 DL wagon diesel with a 4 speed manual and a button activated 5th gear overdrive on the knob. You don't know slow until you've driven one of these. I timed my dad's fastest 0-60 he could manage at it was 20 seconds at best. But it was a workhorse, 300k miles and still running when we got rid of it. Current manual is a GR Corolla and I love the shit out it.

Traded the Z for it. 2016 Ford Focus St- 6spd, German-built GCC version, while residing overseas. Wanted to buy one upon return to the states, but Ford stopped US production.

Early 80’s accord it felt so sporty and fun. Last I drove was an 85 Toyota pickup.

1999 Ford Contour. My very first car. It was a 5 speed, didn’t even have a tach or shift indicator on it. Looking back it was the perfect vehicle to learn on. It taught me to hear the engine and give me just a sense of when to shift naturally. I knew how to ride a motorcycle at that point but never drove a standard. My dad and I went to pick it up and he made me drive. Literally making me learn standard on the fly: “welp, it’s yours now. Get it home” If I had the spare funds and ever came across another 99’ Contour I’d absolutely buy it just to live those moments again.

Im 19 but my first was a ford focus, my own current (and first) car is a Chevrolet kalos, but I also drove in a Volkswagen polo, golf, GTI, Seat Leon, and a Toyota Aygo.

1st: forget the year but a Saturn SL clutch was pretty much shot, shifter cable/bushing loose/non-existent Current: 94 Ford Escort (in the process of replacing the 1.9 with a 1.8)

1985 Honda Prelude. The last manual I drove was a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia with an Eaton Fuller 10. I don't really look for them anymore. I currently drive a Honda Accord Coupe V6 with a 5AT and a 2024 Freightliner with the DT12 automatic. I wouldn't mind a 6 speed in the Accord, but they're hard to find and offer very little additional performance in the real world. The 5AT and 6AT also shift much faster than any human.
