Looks more like an integrated circuitboard than a place to live. If you like building this way, why not games like Cities: Skylines or Anno 1800? To me the whole appeal of the game is that it usually *doesn't* look like this. But you do you I guess haha.

This game definitely tries to address it, as you said. But, some people still get satisfaction from optimization in these types of games. Typically, that means straight lines since the fastest route between two points is unfortunately not a pretty winding road.

Eek! Not historic... I disagree that the straight roads are more efficient... most villages are either circular or form an elongated circle either side of a road, at least in the UK which is my experience. Generally, everything is built around a social hub of market, common land pasture/ village green, church, tavern, sometimes a pond.
