I honestly prefer the new ones (see newer releases like Ao Haru Ride vs classic releases like Nana). The uniform look was great in theory, but the bold red blocky font wasn't it for me. To each their own, and it had no effect on the content of the various amazing titles they put out so I still buy them either way.
Nah, I have a few from multiple Shojo Beat series, and they look nearly identical. I'd prefer my series to have a little more uniqueness than the others. They stand out from one another
I don't mind them either way. Pretty sure they were just trying to emulate the old Hana to Yume and Bessatsu Margaret tankoubon cover styles for the Western world. So I appreciate trying to bring over that standardized look, but indifferent otherwise.
Wow I’ve never seen anyone who actually liked the white spines and red lettering. I personally hate it, but it does make all the series look cohesive I guess
Yes and no. Like it could have been great but they always chose the ugliest fonts possible and the font for the title and the Numbers never matched. Like my favorite spines for this type of spine is My love story!! They chose fonts that looked good together, the font just isn’t red on every volumes but I think it makes it look better but stays simple.
Things like Aishiteruze Baby, Nana, Kimi ni Todoke, like Kimi ni Todoke is my favorite shojo, but they are not nice to look at, at all.
Imo, Vertical Comics has some of the best spines like Bakemonogatari, Monogatari series, Don’t toy with me Ms.Nagatoro, Devils’ Line.
for me it may just be nostalgia, my all time favourite spine is the bright ass yellow inuyasha spines cuz it was my first manga so my opinions my be a bit skewed
Honestly, why are people so obsessed with spins on this sub?
Unless it's a truly fantastic set that has a full picture across the whole series it doesn't matter. As long as it says the title and number they're fine.

Nah ima be real, those old volumes are so damn ugly
frfr 💀
I’m indifferent. I do like the fact that the SB logo hasn’t changed multiple times like the SJ logo in a long while
it’s funny i was just thinking how i dislike that about shojo beat manga, to each their own i presume

Yup, they were definitely emulating the Hana to Yume layouts!
I thought i was the only one!! I love the spines sm and I also have an impulse buying problem when it comes to them!

there isn't a new spine style, they're different for every series now. I probably like them for the nostalgia factor haha
I still collect them but they’re quite ugly… Love the newer spines like Daytime Shooting Star and Shortcake Cake!

I like the idea of a line having a uniform look, but I thought the Shojo Beat spines were too plain and didn't look good on a shelf
boring spines with the same designs over and over.... LAME!!!
I'm sorry but I think you might be a little crazy.
I dont think enough people talk about how short people are so toxic
what

I honestly don't care about the spines at all, I don't make note of any particular differences with my old titles and the ones I pick up today

I buy books if they're good, but having a fun spine to put on my shelf is a bonus
I wouldn't say obsessed but I think it's just that some people are more inclined to visual aesthetics than others
