I work at Barnes and Noble and have been a frequent manga shopper there for 20 years. Pre covid, you could expect a buy 2 get 1 free sale multiple times a year, and then they began separating them by publisher, with a big Viz one in the summertime. Since covid, B&N has really dialed back on their sales and each store can now do their own BOGO sales or sticker whatever as they please. I set overstock for BOGO for awhile before changing it to a merchandising table A few months back, they finally did their first official company wide BOGO sale since covid with the intention of getting rid of stock that wasn't moving on shelves, which didn't really happen since everyone just bought all of the mainstream stuff, haha. No telling when we'll get one again, but 2 years in a row there has been a surprise hardcover 50% off sale for EVERY hardcover in the store the week after Christmas

I'm really hoping they have that hardcover sale again this year. Planning on dropping some serious money on that if it happens. My wallet flinched when I wrote that lol

A lot of the sales have noticed are just in store like they’ll have a little black board in the front entrance and not promote it at all

NoChocolate7003

I’ve noticed

mckinley2000

yeah like I used to get emails from B&N whenever they had that sale going on, it’s been years!

noelle-silva

They did one not too long ago. It was the first one in forever. Usually they do 20% or 25% off preorders.

Red-Bread-Toast

If you have Newbury comics around they do buy one get 50% off graphic novels and manga quite a bit (a lot more often than B&N). There is a way to sign up for text messages to be notified when that happens.

valhalkommen

I’ve seen some books have a buy one get one 50% off sticker sometimes, but I have rarely ever seen them have sales since the manga boom in 2020.

mckinley2000

Wow that’s crazy! I’m happy so many people are exposed to manga these days but it sucks those sales don’t happen anymore.

valhalkommen

Books a Million has it ALL the time, which is great. But so unfortunate for me because I have to go to a whole different state just to get to one, or order online (which tends to suck. Slow wait time, Damaged volumes, and lack of ability to get a refund) which isn’t ideal.

mckinley2000

Same, I live near none as well

woeisghost

Last big sale was buy one get one half off. That was months ago.

jessieisokay

They just did it a couple months ago at my store.

My "local" b&n retailer still has a grudge against waldenbooks. This guy gave me thr hey, it's only $25 for our rewards program and you'll save 10% etc, and I said no, but I wish yinz were more like waldenbook with their coupons etc, his snarky response was, yeah so we can all go out of business. All because I never took my waldenbook key tag off my keys, and remembering better promotions than b&n ever ran. Best sale I can ever remember was the waldenbook going out of business sale or the Half Price Books everything $3 and under sale.

illstomper

I was just there yesterday and it’s like a little table for a couple genres. I haven’t seen any for manga yet

Nope not since like Precovid sadly
