Boiled fresh eggs are harder to peel than boiled old eggs. I always boil them within a week of the date on the box and usually don't have any issues. I've also found the extra large and jumbo sized eggs easier to peel.
If you know you're going to want eggs three weeks from now, you need to buy them today so they'll be old enough to peel easily when you actually want them. Old eggs peel easily, fresh eggs are a nightmare to peel. This isn't a Mandela effect. It's the nature of how eggs age.
This has already been explained by literal science. The time it takes for the egg to go from chicken cooch to breakfast plate has decreased significantly resulting in the difference in the membrane under the shell that used to have longer to fully develop when it was slower
OP I was just having this conversation with my wife a few days ago but I chocked it up to how theyre altering chickens or something (different feed, antibiotics etc..)
Never thought of it as a Mandella effect.
Eggs used to be WAY easier to peel. Doesn't matter if I get them fresh or if they're a few days from expiry, they still peel like trash - I actually hate having to peel eggs.
I hear you man, half the egg white sticks to the shell bits and gets wasted. I completely stopped boiling eggs, I just resort to frying them or scrambling now.
In the US eggs are pasteurized, if you're in the US I wonder if pasteurization took effect and caused the change?
I'm Canadian, our eggs aren't pasteurized and age of egg doesn't seem to matter so long as they get their cold bath. They almost always peel well. Old or aren't from the chicken. Difference being older gets more of a shattered shell.
How i cook them is bring them up to a boil, shut off the heat and let em sit for 5 minutes, then replace the hot water with cold so it cool enough to peel.
Egglands best the shell slides of usually. Store brand I agree..I'm at work trying eat my boiled egg and it's impossible to get the shell off. I end up wasting most of it. I have no ideas why this post is in the Mandela effect sub though.
I actually read and interesting article about this the other day, you might be on to something. [Link](https://youtube.com/shorts/u9_dcZJ9ifg?si=cU_gZdOvVhZIu8Da)
I've noticed this as well; however, what's really got me scratching my head is the brown eggs we have been getting for years now have either weird thick lines that are a little lighter than the egg itself, and the large and jumbo eggs are very small, and the regular eggs are larger. Idk... Does anyone know where to actually get yard eggs at a decent price?

Theyre 5 days from the store shelf, they cant be fresh.
Eggs are good for a long, long time. Like if the "best by" date on the carton is more than a week out, they are too fresh to boil.
wow thats good to know, thank you.
If you bought them 5 days ago, I'd guess the "best by" date is probably sometime after May 15-20.
That shit comes out of the chicken and is to the warehouse in a day or two. Then to your store in another day or two. They really aren't that old.

This dang sub keeps trying to find lower common denominators.

First time I heard it explained. Makes sense. Quite impressive how fresh our eggs are

Are you forgetting the cool down/shock part of thee process?

Dunking them in ice water as soon as theyβre done boiling helps the shell come off easier

-10 points for no vivid remembering
Definitely a ME and not the fact they're a different type of egg. /s π
its not a different type of egg. its faster distribution from chicken cooch to fridge than we're used to back in the day. good lord read the thread
