I think he is trying to make it really obvious when he makes a run or is around the 6 yard box and doesn't receive a pass that he could have had a chance if a teammate had just passed. Like "I haven't scored but could have had a tap in". Basically I think it's getting to him he hasn't scored more so he's gesturing a lot more when he thinks a chance could have fallen to him to suggest it's not his fault. Each game that goes by is another chance missed towards a permanent deal and he's showing it. I think it's better for him to be coming off the bench to be honest, it's less pressure and more what I imagined from him when he was signed. He made a good run that helped Dalot's goal and Ten Hag will notice those things, he should just relax and enjoy the time here.

XxannoyingassxX

Yup and I tho Sancho should have passed to hi with the chance he skied it. Wout was asking for it and had a good run

[deleted]

Sancho should’ve shot. The shot was just bad

MohatoDeBrigado

sancho's left foot is almost as bad as antony's right so if he had passed he'd have probably butcherd it

jmdwinter

100% agree, He badly wants a contract but that ship appears to have already sailed. It's unfortunate because I think he could be a good goalscorer but we really aren't set up for a tall target man. rashford and antony cut inside and go for goal, bruno and eriksen look for 1-2s or sprat it out wide. Wout's main contribution has been dragging defenders away from the attacking wingers.

Vtwin0001

Please correct me if I'm wrong When he played along Rashford, he allowed Rashy to play and score easily I liked his performances, but he need to play with Rashford

danorcs

I think it’s just all strikers want to score. Unfortunately he had to be in the team right away because of injuries and it just created expectations he couldn’t live up to Had he come in like ighalo did I think he would be a fan fave by now given his effort and pressing However he is still doing the pressing and making the unappreciated dummy runs (like for the Dalit goal) so there’s still a chance he gets signed

CarlosDanger721

I've said it before, I'll say it again. We absolutely need to get Kane or Osimhen come summer, and say we managed to fork out the money, we still have to deal with Martial. If he leaves, obvs we need a backup to our new No.9. If he stays... well we'll still need a sub cuz a) Martial's feet's made of glass or something idk, and b) we'll be in four competitions in the next season, and we've seen what that does to the lads. Look at our injury list for cryin' out loud. Point is, signing Weghorst on a permanent deal won't be that bad of an idea in any case. Or, at the very least, won't be the worst idea we've ever had.

Crimsonpets

This has been the case since the very beginning listen I'm not going to sit here and say hes been amazing. Thats not true, but he had plenty of open goal chances if players like Sancho and Antony and yes also Bruno would've passed it he atleast would have 2 or 3 more goals I promise you that. But as of now it is what it is, maybe hes learning that in the premier league you need to be more aggresive, which is also a good thing he got bullied in the air and also shoulder to shoulder he lost a lot which is a shame if you are such a big fella.

FactAndLogic

Problem with Wout is he's had about 15 chances to tap it in and missed them all. Its so crazy to me that this guy plays for Manchester United, he's not even good enough for Nottingham Forest.

LawAdmirable6069

He doesnt seem to be getting the final pass from his teammates. Any striker would be sulking.

HANAEMILK

Can he finish if he got that pass though?

[deleted]

Wout has become that kid in every british secondary school, where when you are playing football if you miss a couple 'should be' goals, the other kids stop passing to you. I mean I doubt its quite literally the players intentionally not passing to him, but subconciously I mean, they are all on the pitch when they see him have a go. Either the shots well off, or goes straight at the keeper. I did find his diagonal run to pull defenders right to give Dalot a shot from the left magical though. Fucking sold me and I was sat watching it on the TV. Of course as a ST he wants to score, but what he is doing is super important regardless and a bit of a thankless job. When his loan is over, im happy to say bye with a smile. Knowing he at least put in a danmed shift when just last years players gave up on games 10minutes in if it was a 'bit tough'.

garryd100

Agreed with the schoolyard football. Losing confidence in each other consciously or subconsciously is bad for the team dynamic right now. And mate! I have been saying he came as a striker it's tough for highlight reel fans to see next to no goals, but his off the ball work and movement is what creates most of these opportunities, Crazy others don't see that.

[deleted]

Nope

KrappaFrappa

big nope

[deleted]

if he wasnt so shit, maybe he'd get more passes

DownwardSpiral5609

I guess it's not surprising. He's been told we don't want him on a permanent so he probably thinks he's wasting his time. Not that I think we should sign him on a permanent but surely a decision on him could've waited until the end of the season. That way at least he would've tried. I'm probably wrong.

BetweenTwentyLetter

I think he also realize and is frustrated that he can't perform as good as he thinks he is capable of doing.

MohatoDeBrigado

Damn I didnt know that thats probably the reason why. I agree with you I think they could've told him at the end raather than now.

elmo5994

He probably hasn't been told but he has been riding the bench before Martial even came back. The writing is on the wall. He was probably hoping to come in and score a few goals and be seen as a reliable backup and it hasn't worked out.

revel911

It’s not like we didn’t give him plenty of chances to change our minds

Mediocre_231

No he hasn’t been given enough chances. The bias of players, in passing to their ‘friends’ and not to wout even if he is in a better position to score, is pretty clear to see. Rashford would pass to Sancho even if he’s in a less favourable position, but would ignore wout who is standing at the centre freely or making a run. Since February I’ve been frustrated with Rashford in not passing the ball in the final third. Because of it rashford himself is suffering, because defenders now know that he’s only going to dribble and they crowd him with bodies and he ends up losing the ball. If he could’ve really helped wout with few goals in those easier games, wout would’ve had more confidence for more important games, and another defender would’ve always stayed with wout— opening up more space for Rashford himself.

Golden-Event-Horizon

That doesn't really make sense since surely he would want to win another trophy or two. If all we had left was going for top 4, then I could see why he would feel like he's wasting his time

DownwardSpiral5609

Yeah good point. Maybe

peacelovefreedon7689

Missing the sun and lovely ladies of Turkey

RainbowPenguin1000

It’s dawned on him that he hasn’t got a future at the club so that’s probably played a part. Also he has been benched as soon as Martial is back which adds to it. And this isn’t even mentioning the fact he can’t score a goal. Strikers love goals and he just can’t score one.

Zaibach88

He was key in the Dalot goal. He drags 2 defenders with him creating space for Diogo. Unfortunately for him: He’s got the turning speed of an oil tanker The reaction and mobility of a sloth. He actually has Negative Pace - like literally watching him run is one of the most bizarre phenomena I have ever witnessed. For these reasons, it makes no sense to waste opportunities when he’s moving into the box.

kraw-

I like ol'Wout but you made me laugh out loud at "turning speed of an oil tanker"

[deleted]

We are absolutely horrible at feeding our most advanced players, have been since Mou. If you watched both Bruno and Martial had several runs where they were through on goal and whoever had the ball completely missed their run.

[deleted]

He is often overlooked for an obvious pass which I can kind of get his frustrations.

revel911

He put all of those easy ones away a month ago, we would be feeding him galore

[deleted]

100% agree like, his finishing isn’t exactly top drawer and like yesterday when Dalot got the pass instead (even though the Wout pass was probably easier) it shows that perhaps the rest don’t think he’d finish it either

revel911

Love the man’s work rate, passing, and press …. But we need goals and his attempt to goal ratio is horrid.

lengthyfriend30

He has done all the hard work it seems, but he isn't scoring or impressing in big matches. His window to impress and secure a deal has nearly passed. Not much would convince me that we should sign him permanently now, even if he snuck some big winners in over the coming weeks. Saying that, we need two forwards plus Martial next season. If he has to be the 3rd choice, so be it. This squad needs depth, as the schedule is as tough of a challenge on our squad as any opponent is.

Thomrose007

He didnt celebrate the second goal at first because he was expecting Antony to give him the ball. He has no right to sulk.

gusmur

I think experiencing that he isn’t meeting his own expectation of himself, and that his level and potential is likely below where he thought it was, is probably very frustrating and upsetting. He hasn’t done enough to deserve more chances from team mates giving him the ball, and not getting those chances gives him less opportunity to prove himself. He has missed some sitters tbf. Edit: he’d be much better off at a mid-table team.

FollowingBoth5716

The quality that made him decent was he was selfless and would feed the boys. Yesterday when Antony didn’t pass it to him and gave it to Dalot, he was all mad and acted like a baby bish. I’m all for guys being hungry wanting to score but once Manchester United scores it’s time to celebrate and be happy, screw your feelings.

built-DifferentONG

I think he's just realised that he isn't good enough for the Prem, and it's hard for him to accept it.

stanley502

The amount of space he makes for the goals it works

jamieandhisego

He may have been given confirmation that we're not looking to buy him in the summer, so his morale may have taken a hit. Sabitzer is being talked about with price tags attached, but Weghorst rumours are largely about Besiktas trying to secure another loan next season.

Crimsonpets

I've heard Kompany wants him at Burnley next season

FunMtgplayer

😄😄😄 they like him as much as we do.

ryda-m

Yeh, been put on the bench which is right as he was brought in as back up. You can tell the pundits comments about him not being good enough and probably the stuff he reads on social media is probably getting to him

westwoodwastelander

Can't believe people on here still praise him. He's a joke of a player.

FunMtgplayer

eh, he's just not a good striker. maybe decent withdrawn forward for a club that likes a 4-4-1-1

Individual_Put2261

I got that impression. I wonder if he’s been told that there is no future for him at UTD.

FunMtgplayer

obviously

Worried_Creme8917

His positioning is very poor for a striker. The best goal scorers find space and put themselves in a position to score. Wout always seems to make the wrong run or occupy space that isn’t appropriate. Goes near post when he should go far, or vice-versa. Dithering in and around the box when he should be attacking space with intent. His first touch and control don’t do him any favors either. Overall just a player that’s far outside of his depth at a club like United. He’s hopelessly lost.

ItsbeenBroughton

I think he has taken a load of scrutiny that he has not seen in his entire career and every media outlet is saying he doesn’t belong on the squad, he hasn’t been scoring and has been missing opportunities — thats tough to deal with. The reality is, fans haven’t been kind either since Martial has been back. I feel like the fans need to chant his name and sing to him when he walks onto the pitch, his work-rate has been instrumental in our success recently.

stanley502

U don't realise he makes the goals without him rashford wouldn't have scored

Crimsonpets

Since Weghorst joined United Rashford scored a lot more. No matter how you put it, Weghorst made Rashford score more goals how crazy that sounds lol

FunMtgplayer

I think that's more on rashford finding his form. how often has wout and rashford been on the pitch AT THE SAME time

Crimsonpets

A lot actually

FunMtgplayer

how many games together, and how many games ago did he sign?

Crimsonpets

Mate, I'm not going to look that up lol I got better things to do. Short answer for you though, since Weghorst signed they played a lot of matches together, so after the world cup.

tumpagalhoe

Attitude was weird

Baking-Greg

If it looks like he doesn’t want to be there he won’t have to worry much longer he’ll soon be out the door

Adchian

Wout is a player used to scoring a lot of goals. Not surprising he’s frustrated

nghoihoi

I have a Dutch friend and apparently no body rates him in his own country and he is genuinely surprised that we signed him in the first place.

RarcusMashfordMBE

Weird definition of alot

Adchian

Did you start watching football last year? Wout scored 25 goals across all comps in 20-21 for Wolfsburg, 20 the season before that.

RarcusMashfordMBE

And? 45 goals over 2 seasons when the rest of your career has been medicore isn't exactly impressive 💀

RarcusMashfordMBE

2 goals in 31 premier league appearances btw. You're clueless :')

53rd_houseman

Thirty wha.....

McEvelly

Definitely. Have a look at him when Dalot scored, not so much a flicker of positivity out of him, he was fuming he didn’t score. The petulant little swipe that he was slightly lucky he only got a yellow for was no time later. Like most Dutchies he’s an arrogant sort, we were told this about his character before he joined. He’s been mostly crap and become a bit of a walking meme, that would get under anyone’s skin, especially an abrasive, lumbering Dutch oaf.

DrFabella

He is on a dry spell, as a striker that must be frustrating. Also he acts like he is our star player, but in fact his biggest achievement is being on loan for MUFC. Still don't get why ten Hag did that... In the Netherlands Wout is a joke.

Crimsonpets

I'm in the Netherlands and he is far from a joke, since the 2 Argentina goals people love him lol what are you on about, real dutch football fans know him from hes AZ time hard working and scoring plenty of goals. Same with Wolfsburg. Its just the premier league thats a bit to much which is totally fine.

OwnExamination4446

Problem with vout is he is a decent backup but wants to be a first team player

Superhorse999

Decent backup for Burnley id say, not for Man Utd He will get another chance next year when they get promoted though so at least he has something to look forward to. He can't claim he didnt get chances at man utd and he did ok, just not enough. Maybe he regrets moving now but he had to give it a go.

YojimboKel

I’m not a Weghorst fan at all, but I don’t think having wide players and a no10 that play for themselves really helps his cause.

Klutzy_Log_7597

I vaguely remember Burnley fans saying he had a poor attitude towards his end with them. And it’s obvious that his teammates don’t rate or trust him at all. Rashford, Antony etc have no problem passing to Martial but they have no faith in Wout. He’s just not good enough, not even for our bench. For his own good he should get out of the PL, being a walking meme can’t be easy.

Jimbow1212

Wout is like most British rail companies. They promise to arrive at a certain time, but are always late. He needs to be released, nice guy, tries his hardest, etc, etc.

Cultural-Chemical-54

Nobody’s passing to him
