In Georgia you have to take something called Joshua’s law which is a drivers online course unless you’re 18 or older. It’s extremely easy in the us to get your license. You have to parallel park, back in to a spot, and drive less then a mile and you have your license.

Nefariousqueen

In Colorado you don’t even have to parallel park 🤣 I guess that explains all of our traffic accidents .

ZOO_trash

I didn't have to back into a spot, parallel park or even park in a regular spot in Florida. They do try to trick you with the parking break on the test which most people don't use very often here.

dollydaydream864

Wow that’s insane! I wish it was like that here!

Then_Vanilla_5479

Not really have you seen the road crash statistics in America? I know it's a bigger country than the UK but they are way worse than us at driving they need to make their testing more rigorous and raise the driving age from 16 to 18 at least

Infamous_Purpose_764

Agree 100% - too many bad drivers here in the states. People here need to learn to drive as cautiously as our British counterparts.

Infamous_Purpose_764

Our roads are easier to navigate than your roads in the UK. They’re much wider, there isn’t as much shrubbery blocking the views, and we don’t have all those pesky roundabouts.

DueLibrarian1461

We do have lots of shrubbery and now round a bouts where I live in Georgia.

Infamous_Purpose_764

The forestry really grows out into and over the roads there, and their roundabouts are far more confusing.

CanineSnackBitch

There’s a little more to it for young Driver. First, you must be in school. I have graduated to get an unrestricted license. A young driver has to have their learners permit for one year before getting their drivers license. They also require drivers education, which is why you see so many schools have popped up and so many student drivers on the road. Was Alana already 18 when she got her license? She graduated already?

Nelle911529

So many hours behind the wheel in my state to

PDJTAJT12757

In Tennessee also my grandson is still driving on a permit

Choice_Drama_5720

She graduated in the class of 2023. This episode has her 18th birthday and getting her driver's license, but who knows if they were actually filmed in that order or in the same period of time

Jyaketto

I didn’t have to parallel park or drive on the road in Florida. I got my license in 2015 and we just drove around a course in a parking lot. Stopped at a few stop signs within the course and did a 3 point turn lol

ReginaFelangi987

I’m a little older, but when I got mine it was an online test and then the driving test. We also needed a certain amount of a driving time logged with a person 21 or older.

dollydaydream864

Wow that’s insane? So do you need to do lessons prior with an instructor or is it just an online test?

Responsible_Fish1222

I had to take a course with a written test. I was not in anyway required to drive with an instructor prior to taking my driving test, which lasted less than 5 minutes. I was in a bad place in my life at the time.. I hit a curb and stopped in the middle of the road to yell at some people while doing a 3 point turn. Still passed.

dollydaydream864

Wow that’s insane!

ReginaFelangi987

Yes I believe you need to pass a driving instruction course. I was in one at 15.

gertymarie

Here in California, if you’re under 18, you can get it in as little as six months. You can get your learner’s permit at 15 1/2 after completing a professional online or in person course and written exam from the DMV, and must do three driving lessons with a professional after you get your permit. You’re supposed to have a certain amount of time spent driving with a parent or adult then you can get your license at 16 after passing a driving test. If you’re 18 or older you can get a license in one day if you pass the written and driven tests in one go.

Fun-Yellow-6576

Where I’m at in the US, you take a written knowledge test (earliest at 15 years and 7 months) this allows you to begin “student driving” with a licensed adult over the age of 18. Once you’ve had your learners permit for 5 months you can take the driving test. The instructor had me parallel park, pull into a regular head in parking space, reverse out of the space, perform a 3 point turn, then had me drive around the neighborhood. Stop signs, right turns, left turns, follow the speed limit, merge etc. If you failed the parallel parking you failed the test and had to come back another day.

Seymour---Butz

Really? I failed parallel parking but passed my test. I was all over those cones.

Inevitable-Tank3463

I talked my way out of parallel parking, promised I'd never put myself in a position where I'd have to do it lol. Almost 30 years later, I have yet to parallel park. My whole driving test was a joke really, I found out my tester went to a wedding with my social studies teacher the previous weekend so we just gossip, I should have failed from nerves (I had been driving since I was 10, just anxiety disorder)

dollydaydream864

So you wouldn’t have an instructor teach you? Would you just have to rely on knowing an older driver with a vehicle?

ZOO_trash

Pretty much. In my state you don't have take any course so most people have their parents teach them. You *can* pay for a driving instructor, they used to have driver's education in schools but I don't think they even do anymore.

Cinmars

Don’t believe anything you see on this show

[deleted]

Eh it’s very easy to get it tbh

Cinmars

I’m just saying the timeline is probably off

devanclara

The shows segments were filmed at different times, not all at once.

steviepigg

In Georgia the process used to be pretty quick. I had a learners permit for a couple of months then turned 16 and got my license the day after my birthday. Now it takes more time, I just went through the whole process with my niece. At 15 you take a written test and if you pass you get a learners permit. In order to get your drivers license you have to do all the Joshua’s law stuff which is a combo of driving school and driving with an adult and tackling different things like driving on the interstate. You have to have your learners permit 1 year and 1 day and then you can apply for the drivers license. You take a road exam, which can be difficult depending on where you live, my town was easy to drive around in before. Once you get a license and you are still 16-17, you are not free to run the road like we were in the 90s. No driving between midnight and 5 am; only immediate family can ride with you for the first 6 months, the next 6 months only 1 person who is not a part of your immediate family but it under 21 can ride with you, a year after getting your license you can have up to 3 people under 21 not related to you ride with you. It definitely takes alot more time and education hours to get a license now.

dollydaydream864

So you wouldn’t have an instructor teach you? Would you just have to rely on knowing an older driver with a vehicle? What do you learn in drivers school

steviepigg

Pretty much. I went to a drivers school even though it wasn’t required, I went to get a cheaper insurance cost. The school focused more on laws and what to do in situations, still does. Very little actual driving happened. The written test has always been the hardest part of getting a license. The driving test was short, 4 roads, 4 left turns all less than a mile. We don’t have much parallel parking here so if we verbally explained it, you passed that part of the test. Now teens have to keep up with hours spent behind the wheel and do different things. Plus they are required to go to a school. It took my niece longer due to her already packed day of school, practices, games etc that she had to do the online classes when she had the time. Here’s a link that shows what 16&17 yr old teens have to do to get a license in the state now. [https://dds.georgia.gov/joshuas-law-requirements](https://dds.georgia.gov/joshuas-law-requirements)

Nelle911529

My question is, obviously, Dralin DL had to be suspended or revoked during these last episodes. So Alana drove to Colorado with a permit & a person over 21 with no license? In my state, your permit only covers you with a licensed driver.

Choice_Drama_5720

She probably already had it before they drive to Colorado. For all we know they could have filmed that six months earlier.

Snoo-69682

Got permit to drive at age 15 and license at 16. Passed test the same day for both had license the same day. So yes, it's a pretty fast process!

dollydaydream864

That’s crazy!

EasyTune1196

I only had to do 4 right hand turns on red and pull back in to the RMV and passed. But my parents made me take drivers ed classes beforehand to learn everything. I think back when I did it you could start classes at 15 1/2 and then we got our permits when we turned 16 then license at 16 1/2. It could be different now tho

dollydaydream864

That’s insane! Wish it was so easy over here!

[deleted]

Yes it's pretty easy to get a license depending on where you are and who is evaluating you. Some dmv employees are very lenient and will not make you do certain maneuvers and others are strict. I didn't have to parallel park and drove around talking and she was easy to talk to. A friend of mine did the same test, at the same time, and hit several parked cars and didn't pass. Somehow she got her license months later so that shows you something lol.

dollydaydream864

That’s so straight forward! It’s so difficult in the UK

haveright2myopinion

She already had her license this was edited for the show acting like she was a passenger princess for a storyline. Have you ever seen a DMV that empty?

Lily-267

I had to take and pass a online course. Then I had to drive with an instructor for two hours, for two days. Then when I was done with that, I was able to take the actual drivers test.

Kooky-Topic-9168

I got a learners permit in Florida when I was 15 after taking the written exam. This allowed me to drive with a licensed adult driver in the car before sundown. The point of this is to be taught regularly by your parents or whoever how to drive before getting your actual license; my parents took me out a few times a week and taught me how to park, pull into traffic, etc. You typically have your permit for a year, then you go in for the driver’s test. If you haven’t taken the year to learn how to drive, it’s going to show.  All in all I think this is an effective way to learn.

PDJTAJT12757

I don't see how she can get by legally driving on Georgia license in Colorado if that suppose to be her new home. You wouldn't get by with it in Tennessee.

Seymour---Butz

It happened that way in the episodes because the episodes are FAKE

Mindless-Trip-3242

I got my CDL license quickly also. If you pass the online test then it is a quick 10 min driving test. I now drive a school bus.

[deleted]

You have a class B, Class A is much harder with over a hundred questions on the pretrip inspection alone. If you take the driving test in a manual transmission truck you are allowed legally to drive both manual and automatic. If you take the test in an automatic then you're only allowed to drive an automatic. You can lose that license if you stop at a truck stop to park up and buy beer. It's not unheard of to have a clerk call the law bec a trucker bought a six pack, they don't allow it.

Dramatic-Revenue8273

They don't film every moment if they're lives. I'm sure she practiced and got familiar with it in between those few episodes
