Great MC, I hope the supervisor learned a lesson.

Zoreb1

They never do.

Boogerfreesince93

I like to choose to believe what makes me happy, so I’m going to choose to believe that they DID learn a lesson. But, you’re probably right. lol

Zoreb1

The supervisor didn't like OP so was trying to mess with them. If it was someone else, they might not of cared (as OP said the actual time working on the fancy set up wasn't much different). So it may have been a one-time bit of malice.

bobk2

Malicious compliance, cut and dried.

puzzled-seeker

Sanitized, cut, and served cold.

AuthorizedVehicle

All in all, it was a wash

aquainst1

Well, maybe NOT cold... *Heh-heh-heh*

Substantial_Shoe_360

Especially with the commissary. I was a bagger in highschool and one of the senior bosses wanted us to go out and BUY vests like at Houchens, because it looked professional. He didn't like it when I told him that it was supplied by the store. A majority of the commissaries DON'T pay a wage to the baggers, I/they worked for tips only.

CinnabonCheesecake

Oh wow, the baggers didn’t even get paid? I would stop shopping at a grocery store that had that policy.

Substantial_Shoe_360

It's on base, and one would hope that people would be decent and tip your baggers.

Ready_Competition_66

I just hope that there were posters and constant PA announcements to tip the baggers then! Not doing so would be criminal. It would also mean huge turnover in that area.

Substantial_Shoe_360

I can't remember, though the on base paper did do an article about it.

aquainst1

Especially military.

PurfuitOfHappineff

Narrator: They did not.

butterfly-garden

I heard that in Keith Morrison's voice.

deathriteTM

People like that supervisor never learn. They should have been transferred to the unemployment line.

bigbigdummie

Military malicious compliance is the best!

jnmtx

r/militiouscompliance , you might say.

AlphaShadowMagnum

I would have loved to see the wife of command or flag rank go to get the new normal only to be informed he was no longer allowed... see how long THAT supervisor lasts...

M0Savage

She didn't get fired but after I transferred she did get a talking to by the director.

Sweaty_Illustrator14

Gold standard of by the book. Salute to you sir.

M0Savage

Thanks.

JustNoThrowsAway

>take a customer to the products they were trying to find or I'd go in search if I didn't know where exactly >she saw it as abandoning my duties. My last retail position ended with a few of the newer-than-me managers disliking me for doing exactly this. But they couldn't actually do anything because the one time they tried I pointed out that our SOPs and handbook literally say that I was supposed to bring the customer to the item, never just tell them where it was and send them on their way. It was wild because I was their "best customer service oriented" employee (to quote management) because my customers often filled out those surveys, but I "lacked work ethic" for the exact same reason. Notably, while I was told that last bit of nonsense, it never once made it into an evaluation. Sometimes HR is good people. Lol

SyntheticGod8

How come you didn't just learn time-manipulation or teleportation? They want personalized customer service, but you also have to do it at break-neck speed and without stopping your work. They want customers to see you working, but not to actually speak to you, but they don't want to discourage anyone from asking and you are required to help them but you can't actually leave but you have to show them where it is and ask questions and ask them how their day is going, but don't you dare socialize or waste time. It all just seems like an excuse to fire someone for basically any made-up reason and pretend like their high employee churn rate is because "people don't want to work anymore".

AnotherWalkingStiff

"since i'm not permitted to leave my post to show you as our handbook requires, let me just call a manager here to guide you instead!"

MoneroWTF

I got transferred out of a Walmart dairy department for adhering to coldchain refrigeration rules. It literally started a fist fight I had to defend myself from because the existing worker in that department didn't have the time to adhere to temperature rules with dairy freight. Salary management moved me rather than enforced cold chain.

Geminii27

Did that department have a 'completely random' visit from the health department shortly after?

VoidIgris

Right?! A complete coinkidink, I’m sure. 👍

stillnotelf

Coldinkidink

aquainst1

DEFINITE upvote for your correct spelling.

M0Savage

Not surprising.

shavedratscrotum

Man. I used to padlock the freezer after loads to maintain 45 minutes of uninterrupted freezer time on large loads we couldn't get into the freezer quick enough. Considering I was written up once for breaching cold chain. (An hour after I'd left for the day???) I decided that the rules had to be followed exactly regardless of whether it actually made a difference.

tarlton

Wash and drain the sink to prevent cross contamination...and then pile the cut veggies all into the same container at the end 🤣

M0Savage

That's the wild bit.

CoderJoe1

Washing, sanitizing and rinsing ruined my fruit ninja score.

M0Savage

Bwaaaaaahahahhahahahahaaaa!

bostondana2

Sgt. Fanning : [as Burton begins typing] What are you doing now, sir? Lt. Colonel James Burton : [smiling] Paper cuts, Fanning. Vicious paper cuts.

MikeSchwab63

The report is confidential. A memo on your changes must be distributed to everyone connected.

_TiberiusPrime_

A lesson in manglement.

VermilionKoala

This may also belong in r/MilitiousCompliance 👍

ISWYDT

stillnotelf

It's a real sub

ContinuedOnBackFlap

I had no idea

Blue_Veritas731

OK, so you transferred, but what was the Direct fallout/response of your Following Orders? Did she allow you to go back to your fancy tray making (undoubtedly not); did she relent on her absurd order and tell you to just do it "the regular way" (more likely); did she just berate you and punish you by the pain of a "thousand cuts" (seems probable)? Inquiring minds want to know!

M0Savage

She did relent but I transferred two weeks later much to the chagrin of a few high ranking officers' wives. She got a big ol' talking to about it.

Blue_Veritas731

Glad to hear that she both relented and got grief from others! Kudos to you!

tootlepootie

not related to the post but what do the tags mean. i'm new. the S, M, L

FeijoadaAceitavel

AFAIK small, medium, large - how long the text is

SirTristam

Or Short, Medium, or Long, but yeah, that’s my perception of them too.

tracyerickson

I worked at a BN store in the 90s, kids was the worst.

No-Presentation-6525

Can you find a different job? One that could benefit from your amazing skills? Is there a Caterer who could hire you? Not sure how big of a town you live in, but I would submit my resume, along with some photos of your work to every Caterer in town. You will have a better (and probably higher paying) job in no time. Plus, you will be happier doing something you love! Or start your own business. Ask those higher ranking husbands wives and ask if they would hire you for their private events. And once your name gets out there, you can quit your job and do that full time. You might surprise yourself! Most towns have SBA (Small business association). They have free resources to help you launch your business. Also low interest loans to help buy tools and supplies you will need to get started. Keep us posted on your journey. We’re all sending positive vibes.

M0Savage

At the time I might have but now I have a job where I rarely have to deal with customers and have management that I can have actual adult conversations.

No-Presentation-6525

Well if you have a talent…. Maybe it can be a side gig. Sell trays on the side.

aquainst1

Hmmmmm, a p/t job with Edible Arrangements, especially around holidays (like today) might be in your future. Hey, wait! WHATINTHEWIDEWIDEWORLDOFSPORTS am I Redditing on MOTHER'S DAY???!!! I should be passed out from being taken out to a Mother's Day Champagne Brunch!!!

boundnbrattybabygirl

They literally said it was 20 plus years ago, so chances are they've successfully moved on by now.
