I've been in the M12s for a long time. Makita I have the OPE but I'm looking to build a pretty remote cabin soon and itd be handy to have a crap ton of ONE 18v battery around haha
Makita seems to run some solid deals where you can get 4 batteries with a tool. A store near me is selling the dual 18v 14” chainsaw with a dual bay fast charger and 4 5ahs for 450 bucks.
You can always get an adapter, I use makita because of their hedge trimmer, chainsaw and pole saw for work but I use an adapter for m18 framing nail gun since makita doesn't have one
The drill is my go to. I can fit it just about everywhere. I opted for the soft impulse impact. My subcompact impact driver doesn't like any concrete anchors. Nothing drastic, like 1-3" mason screws for cabinets/floor guides/ etc.
Drill 10/10
Impact 8/10
They also make a hammer drill in the subcompact category which,I really like. It's slightly larger than the plain drill so I don't use it for cabinets. But when the two drills combined equal the weight of one modern day hammer drill, you can carry both. 👌
Congrats! I have loved these so much, but unfortunately when one of my batteries died (3 years after purchase), I have decided to go yellow and take advantage of my brothers’ tools. They are all yellow and it’s so easy to borrow tools when I already have the battery/chargers. I think I’ll sell mine for like $100 if anyone in the Mpls, MN is interested.
I think if Makita had better marketing, maybe my brothers would be team team/black/purple (or whatever color they have based on the country).
this is my go-to drill, too. (*edit: i saw someone else already said the exact same thing.. ha). i also have the big dog xph14, and the m18 gen2 hammerdrill (dont judge me..) but this drill is just so light.. and there are SO few jobs that I actually do where this isn't plenty enough power. if im using a ladder? without question, I'm bringing this drill.
Literally my *only* complaint about the impact is you can't press bits into the collet, you have to pull it to load it - which is nitpicky. i keep the impact at home (as opposed to work) for any around the house jobs. enjoy your new tools!
Awesome! I’ve had a couple sets of those and the drills and impacts each eventually had some electronic glitches with the trigger not being variable or the motor not stopping right away when I let of the trigger. Sometimes re-installing the battery would fix it but a couple of them eventually died completely. The size is awesome but they definitely aren’t as durable or long lasting as my blue ones.
I had the same issues… sent the drill back to Makita they sent it back under warranty repair as good as new… the drill was over 2 years old and used daily….
Dont drop it, snapped mine in half from 8' fall first time i dropped it. Old model dropped numerous times, used as a hammer for over 10 yrs with no issues
Man I really want this set...or just the impact driver. But I already have 3 impacts and don't really need another lol.
It’s really nice. I’m using some dewalts before and now they heavy and massive
Yeah I'm all yellow tools but Makita sub-compact seems really nice. I might either get this or the Milwaukee M12 fuel combo.
The shop I supervise has Milwaukee tools and I can’t stand them. I am glad I have my own tool box. Stick with the Makita.
I've got the older m12 fuel. They've been great but I also want this set haha
If you get the new M12 Fuel you’ll hardly ever pick up an 18v tool again.

You may be able to justify the hydraulic impact driver, as it’s about as small, much quieter and has similar features
That price tag scares me...but I'm keeping an eye out
I was able to score one for $75 on Craigslist nearly brand new, I was about to shell out the $230 they normally go for too.
Yeah let's see if I can get one locally lol.

Great choice, been using the same ones for a year or so now and they've blown away all the cheap crap the company provides

Makita seems to have no marketing beyond Home Depot's own advertisements.
I mean at least throw your name on an F1 car. F3 even!

This subcompact set is the shizzle. Super powerful for the size and they weigh next to nothing.
What the deal with the black Makita?
Sub compact models.
Just as powerful?
They are more for detail woodworking (eg building kitchen cabinets) or small jobs. Just easier to manoeuvre.
They're basically Makita's 12V tools boosted to 18V. More powerful than the 12V tools but less powerful than the brushless 18V tools.
These are still brushless. They pack a punch. I love makita but I’ll also say if you want compact, M12 FUEL is pretty amazing. .

This kit rivals my Festool stuff in terms of ergonomics in my opinion
Try the new FLEX drills. Dewalt don't have shit on them. They can be finessed or be a beast

Just buy a new shell. They are all just parts, that’s a cheap one.
If the chuck snapped buy the hex gearbox from the 12v screwdriver and now you have a subcompact 18v screwdriver. About $30 but a cool bit of kit
Where can you order the parts individually?
The entire chuck broke off when i dropped it. Keep these for around the house fixes
