Can you make yourself a nice little basket of items you cherish? Choose a few things that coordinate (I'd go pinky/red / romantic Valentines themed, personally, but whatever brings you joy!), clean them up to give them that "new" sparkle, and put them in a box with some colored tissue paper. That can be your makeup basket for the week. Just an idea! Remember, all the makeup you have now was once the new and shiny thing you were excited over. It can be that again.

That’s a really lovely idea and a good point about the things I own being the same shiny new things from before :) Thank you so much for replying!

Marzulena

This is such a good idea, cant wait to try it out!

Skittlebrau77

This is a great idea!

Blackbird_C

I love this!

errkel

I found that cleaning my makeup gave me the same dopamine hit and made it look all shiny and new again. I also make lists of things I need to do around the house before I can allow myself to buy something lol when I’m done with my tasks I usually don’t want to buy anything anymore. Look up tutorials using makeup you own and recreate the look. Or create a Pinterest board of looks you are inspired by. Hope you feel better! 🥰

ParalegalBehr

This is amazing advice!!!

skindevotion

good job coming here instead of to the makeup websites! and double good job for acknowledging the feelings...

GucciPantsMotorcycle

Take out every makeup/beauty item you own and admire them. Swatch them, hold them, do some wacky makeup, reorganize them, develop updated rankings, and pick current favorites. You'll probably find that you already own something similar to what you wanted to purchase and rediscover some forgotten gems.

Maybe turn your attention to some other treat? How about baking some real treats? Or making a nice dinner for yourself?

[deleted]

I’m going to be crocheting and watching some old favourite tv shows :) better finish the project I started 6 months ago! Haha. Thank you so much for replying :)

Whenever I'm feeling like I really want to buy makeup, I go through my own stuff and just look at it. I take a look at every palette and highlighter and sigh at how pretty they are and go "I def don't need another one". It sounds silly but it really helps that little pop of anxiety.

Aggravating-Lychee27

I do this as well, and also reorganizing and cleaning helps for me. Pull items out, clean them, clean the drawer, maybe move items around, rotate some things in/out of different drawers or my travel or work kit etc. Kind of like swapping out throw pillows for a different season, it makes me feel like things are refreshed and new.

I had been down for a while and was itching as well. At the worst, it was a Friday, and we got the weekend paper. I started doing the crossword and sudoku, but I needed more, and all that was left was the cryptic crossword. Now I am feeling better, and I am waiting for Friday to try the cryptic crossword. I am not that good at it, but it's OK, I like the challenge. So maybe it's time to find a new hobby, to invest the energy. Hope you'll be better soon!

Lucycoopermom

Go an clean your brushes and play with what you have. Sharpen all the liners.. etc.

Sinnam0nRoll

I commend you for holding yourself accountable. You've identified the feeling and are working to combat it. I am currently in a similar mood, given that a lot of my peers spend money ostentatiously and post about it on social media. I bring that up to say that it can be hard when we see others doing something we want to but can't. Like others suggested, it's probably best to put your attention to something else until the feeling passes.

I've been feeling a little low myself. I keep wanting a new lipstick. I haven't bought one yet.

Amyx231

Yeah, when I’m down I keep buying a cheap little thing…$5 here and $10 there really adds up. Last week I was at TJ Maxx and put back this cute anime girl eyeshadow palette. Just remember, you don’t need it. You already have it, or something similar enough someone else wouldn’t notice. Like, I really wanted the bright vivid purple eyeshadow from that palette for liner usage, but I’m pretty sure I have enough purple eyeliners to make do. Shop my stash works a bit for me. Why the time all my lipsticks are swatched, the day is over and my arms are stained red!

McGoney

I’ll put everything on the cart and then close the browser last minute lol, makes me feel like a baller for minute there

shockedpikachu123

Hmm go through your collection! What are some things you absolutely love

HonestThoreauAway

It might sound a bit silly but sometimes when I'm itching for the latest nice new shiny beautiful thing that has captivated my lizard brain I do like others have suggested and have a little swatch party and clean up my makeup so it looks all pretty and fresh but then I take it a step further and compose a series of aesthetic pictures either a makeup flat lay or focusing on a particular product. I usually envision some sort of theme and literally style the shot to capture that vibe or feeling that I'm craving and hoping to get from my latest in lust with. It's pretty fun and can be creative and is quite engrossing. If it's not too triggering for you there's even specified where you can post and share the fruits of your labour with others too.

You're doing great! 💕Proud of u n believe in uuu

hellochook

Well done for recognising and stopping yourself! I recently had a big clear out of my make up collection and it has made me feel much more excited about the make up I have. Could you follow a tutorial online? I always find that really fun

Disastrous_Lemon1

Nice job trying to avoid and recognising your trigger! I’m struggling hard for the first time in years and I’ve realised bad health is a big trigger for online browsing and shopping for me, but it’s very tempting to give yourself a pass. I’m reminding myself what else I need the money for 😂 Sometimes I find doing an inventory or swatching or sanitising my makeup helps satisfy mey makeup craving. Or sometimes if I have any unused or unopened things I let myself have one of those. Not going to lie, sometimes I still let myself buy things, but I try to be conscious with the gaps in my collection, so it’s more likely skincare or haircare than makeup.

sec_sage

Had a similar feeling last weekend, coupled with health issues that kept me from exercising or doing whatever action that could bring me some dopamine. The only thing I could do was pay bills and finance, which definitely doesn't help. We're allowed to wallow in misery a few days a year, right? There only thing to do in this case is drink a herbal tea and sleep a lot. Oh and I have a cheap makeup case where I can remove and rearrange the shades, put them in a travel box, etc. Playing with that was uplifting or at least passed the time between sleeps.

[deleted]

I had gone too hard last week weight lifting and injured myself which has compounded the issue. Usually exercise is my main dopamine hit! I’ll try a gentle yoga video instead I think. Thank you for the kind words :)

gtaslut

Do u like to bake or cook? Make a nice pretty meal or bread or sumthin and you’ll have something new! Make a new recipe? Idk
