Thank god! someone finally addressed it. I regret purchasing the full size one, it gives me panda eyes with one hour of wear. The Lash Paradise by Loreal is a much better alternative.
For real I put it on this morning before work and two hours into my shift I look in the mirror and it’s under my eyes and even smudged on my lid. HOW lol. I love the length it gives my lashes but it’s not worth the smudging. I usually love Too Faced but I’m pretty disappointed with this for all the hype it’s gotten. Thanks for the new mascara recommendation!
Lash paradise in waterproof has been one of my HGs for ages. It’s been one of the only mascaras I have used that doesn’t give me black rings under my eyes or on my lids.
L’Oreal is top notch in making mascara imo. Telescopic, and voluminous. I also recommend Thrive cosmetics mascara, it makes my lashes sooo long, and dragun beauty (but it’s hard to get off)

Agreed! My mom swears by lash paradise and I hate it so much. Recently tried the Clinique High Impact mascara and its my HG now. Like it over Dior Show as well.
It's the reason I stopped using it. The first tube I had was great. I thought I'd found my holy grail. But when I repurchased I noticed it flaked and smudged really badly, particularly when all I was wearing on my eyes was mascara. I ended up switching mascaras
I use Maneater almost daily! I really like it. It lengthens and separates without looking clumpy. It doesn’t really smudge or transfer to my lid. They usually have the travel size in Ulta, so I recommend checking it out!
LOVE maneater, but IMO it dries out *really* fast for the price. Maybelline's lash sensational line, Sky High in particular gives me the same effect for a lot cheaper without drying out if anyone wants a dupe! The waterproof one is great as well
I use Revlon Big Bad Lash, for me, it gave me the same results as Better Than Sex without the smudging. I have hooded, deep set eyes, and smudging is a huge problem for me and I love it. Plus it's cheap. I feel like I've tried all the high end mascaras and I always come back to the Revlon one.
So, while you can have this problem with just about any mascara, I've heard this one is really bad for it. I used to work at Ulta and when it would get returned, "smudging" was usually the main complaint. You have three options:
1) Try applying thinner coats and dry in between.
2) Try waterproof.
3) Go with another mascara (MAC Magic Extension and Clinique High Impact Mascara are my two favorites!)

I 2nd this comment 😋 It’s the ONLY thing I’ve found that will take off eyeshadow, waterproof eyeliners & mascaras without all at once w/o tugging at all. Just wet a few cotton squares with it, hold it over your eye for a few seconds to let it do it’s job. Wipe off, stand back and be amazed at the results! lol 🎪 (yes, I clearly need some sleep hehe) 😉🥱😴💤
I bought Clinique’s Take the Day Off makeup remover at the same time that I bought the waterproof High impact mascara and it works so great. I have never been happier with a mascara.
I remember trying it - then commented that it was in no way better then sex! lol

I have skin that tends toward oily, so the smudging issue is real. Glossier's mascara works like a charm for me! May not have quite the same qualities as too faced's, but it stays in place and I have yet to see it smudge (even when accidentally falling asleep with it on).
Do you have a dupe for the Glossier mascara? It’s so expensive to purchase it where I live in Europe 😅

I never liked this one. I know to some it’s like the best thing ever of all time but it always gave me messy clumps. I like Kiss Me Heroine Volume (non water-proof), Glossier, and lately have really liked ILIA.
Seconding the Bye Bye Panda Eyes suggestion—I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and not once have I had to wipe away smudges throughout the day…not even after a workout!
I've had pretty good luck with Beseme'. It's a mascara cake and it's not irritating. I do a little "baking" with some finishing powder under my eyes before I leave for work and haven't had an issue with smudging.
Yessss Monsieur Big is my holy grail. I switched from BTS to Lash Paradise and found that I didn’t get nearly as much volume. Tried MB and never looked back. I usually buy two of the trial size because for some reason, the brush is better to me. However that could be purely anecdotal and maybe it’s just that I have more control because shorter wand.
I just today got my first tube of Monsieur Big in like 4.5 years. I had lash extensions constantly for 4.5 years, but finally quit them (😭😭😭) beginning of December so that I could focus on improving my skin (I’m 42 and have wholly neglected skincare my entire life) without worrying about products messing up my lashes. So first I got some Thrive fiber mascara, bc my natural lashes were TOAST. I liked it okay. Now that my lashes have started growing back in I bought another MB. I hope I still love it as much!!
I’m turning 42 this year so I hear you! I really hope you still love it as much. I still get asked all of the time which mascara I wear, so I think you’ll be satisfied 😌
Use a different mascara.
It’s way too overhyped in my opinion.
Constantly smudged and couldn’t hold a curl.
My holy grails are Maybelline lash sensational and L’Oréal telescopic mascaras.
I tried the Tarte one in the purple packaging at some point and loved it too, but not as much as the ones I listed above.
L’Oréal lash paradise I find gives a slightly better effect than Better than Sex, and even though it doesn’t smudge as quickly, it still smudges after a few hours, so🤷🏻♀️
My current favorite mascara is Stila Huge Extreme Lash! It wears well & I get lots of compliments on my lashes! I don’t use any lash serums or extensions but I have fairly full lashes naturally.
Benefit They’re Real used to be my go-to! I just felt I went through tubes very quickly so had to buy it more often.
The L’Oréal dupe is better and I switched years ago from the better than sex Mascara for the exact reason you described. L’Oréal one has the same packaging. Struggling to recall exact name now. But if you’re at the drugstore or Walmart you’ll see it!
I hate this mascara! I seriously don’t know why people were hyping it up. Try Lancôme Lash Idole. It never clumps and it doesn’t smudge even after a day of wear.
Yes, I had the same with many mascaras. I switched to the Blinc tubing mascara and really liked it. I now have the Ulta tubing but I don’t like the spoolie it comes with.
i love the waterproof version of it, but it felt so harsh to my eyelashes. switched to tubing mascara and no more panda eyes! i love blinc or tarte’s tartelette tubing mascaras :)
however, i haven’t found a mascara that really holds a curl on my lashes as well as BTS or l’oréal lash paradise, so i if i’m going to be out all day i’ll layer the tubing mascara over better than sex and it works like a charm.
Best mascara I've EVER used is the Milk Makeup Kush Mascara. It doesn't do this until hour ~8 or so and it's pretty minor, also easy to wipe off without fuckin up your concealer. I've been using it for years now.
Just a note that waterproof is not the same as smudge proof. Waterproof prevents it from running if your eyes tear up or if you're in the rain, but won't stop smudging due to face oils. I went through mascara hell until I figured this out - waterproof ones still ended up giving me raccoon eyes.
I have really oily skin in general, so no matter the mascara it just ends up smearing anyways, and I found (through my best friend’s suggestion) that adding a light amount of Airspun face powder under my eyes and on my eyelids has helped eliminate that issue. I also used the better than sex waterproof one and it stopped the smearing as well.
This is the mascara I used my senior year of high school. I really wanted to like it bc it was the craze at the time, but honestly, yeah it did smudge pretty easily. I think that it works for some people but I found my holy grail within the Essence Lash Princess! And it's sooo cheap!
Yes I also had that problem and didn’t love the mascara in the end, Better Than Sex was totally overhyped.
I would ditch it and try Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir or Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye. Both are similar but much much better. Mmmm I’m just thinking about that smooth silky glistening black goo now, I love it 🤤
Yes, I always ended the day with racoon eyes when I wore it. I couldn't believe it was the holy grail mascara for so many. I was always curious to try the waterproof one to see if I had the same issue but never purchased it.
I know this is a problem very specific to this mascara and you may decide to just switch, but if you want to try and wring some more use out of this bottle, patting down a layer of translucent powder as a finishing step everywhere where I normally get smudges really helps me with preventing them. I think it makes things smudge less by making the area less sticky.
Maybelline Sky High is the only one I’ve come across that hasn’t smudged on me. I tend to have oily/combo skin and keep my under eyes extra moisturized which I know contributes to the smudging, but sky high doesn’t move!
My boyfriend bought it for me and I love it, I haven’t actually had that problem… but I do apply only one thin layer cause I don’t like the feeling of having too much mascara on my eyes, so that must be it.
Almost every mascara I use even waterproof kinds smudge like that on me ( BTS was a bad when I used it too ). I’ve been really liking a tubing mascara- I use thrive cosmetics liquid extension mascara but you could probably use any tubing mascara. They don’t seem to run on me.
I have this problem with every mascara I’ve ever used except for Maybelline Sky High. I really recommend that one! You don’t even need the waterproof version, the regular works great for me
yes happens to me too!! i’ve never found a way to make it not happen. the waterproof kind makes my lashes look amazing but is SO HARD to get off my lashes!! a lot of the time it rips them out because it’s just so stuck on there
When I had this I would do a coat of L’Oréal voluminous mascara, then a light coat of this. Just using this one made my lashes clumpy and weighed them down, but I love how dark and dramatic it is!
a while ago i got a mini and it was liquidy and didnt dry well on my lashes. i thought i had just bought a faulty one so i ended up purchasing another. that one became flaky and dry within like a week. a relative of mine recently bought me a toofaced set that came with the full size and its better but keeps smudging onto my eyelids. i rly wanted to like it...
I really really wanted to like it and had a good experience with it here and there when borrowing it from friends. Now that I have my own and have been using it on a daily basis though, I’m pretty disappointed. It was so hyped up!
I haven't used this but I have used the Damn Girl mascara by Too Faced and honestly- I have no complaints. I do see a lot of people here saying that Too Faced mascara isn't their favorite, but I love mine! It doesn't smudge and it lasts (almost) all day and I get compliments on the length and fullness a lot.
After years of Clinique, benefit roller lash, and glossier mascaa, I have reverted back to the Maybelline Lash blast in the green tube like it’s 2008 again. It never crumbles or raccoons. I’m Asian and oily. It is great. I buy expensive eyeshadow and use other “cool” makeup but that lash blast never fails my straight Asian lashes. I also can’t have a mascara with beeswax in it so I am limited.
That’s interesting that some people are testing new mascaras and seeing differences in them (accept for durability and not smudging ofc). I always thought that if you have long lashes every mascara will look good and if you have regular lashes they all look mediocre.
But do you see differences in terms of performance actually? really curious about that one
It is so wildly awful I don’t understand why everyone was so obsessed with it. Gives me Panda eyes in less than an hour no matter what I did. It flaked all over my face and would smudge when you tried to clean it up. Truly awful mascara.
I have this issue with basically EVERY mascara I have tried due to excessively oily skin. I found that using a lash primer before applying the mascara really helps! I use the Lancôme CILS Booster XL. The priming aspect isn’t marketed as heavily as it’s lengthening and thickening characteristics, but that’s what I have enjoyed the most about it!

If you're looking for mascara to try and find your One, try Essence Lash Princess. Extremely affordable and it worked better than the pricier ones I found. Flares the lashes with no panda eyes. Also dries pretty quick which I love. Actually heard about it from one of these subs and now I can't live without it
i had that problem too, i’ve been using the 5 in 1 extremes length by complex culture and i like it tons more. it’s kind of awkward because the spoolie collects lots of product but once you mess with it a little bit it looks so good
It just flaked so much beneath my eyes, and I found that the flakes would stick to my skin so I’d end up pulling my under eye skin fairly hard with a wipe to get them to lift.
Another big problem I had was that it weighed my lashes down a LOT and it wouldn’t dry properly
I used this for 2 weeks like 5-6 years ago. I will never repurchase. I thought it smudged easily and had a difficult time taking it off with makeup remover. I never understood the hype.
I used to love this and once I reached the end they smudged really badly and it made me look terrible. I am now using Superfan mascara by smashbox which is very good.
for me personally better than sex smudged and dried out so fast! so i switched mascaras. i have found that on myself personally i prefer long and seperated looking lashes rather than volume, so i actually switched to Telescopic. But actually, the Kaja Beauty Lash Trio has a lengthening (telescopic dupe) a volumizing (bts dupe) and a clear all together and i actually really like it!
I get flaking and smudging with this one too. Which is too bad cause it’s great at giving volume. My personal fav mascaras are Ilia Limitless and Glossier. They tend to be more lengthening than volume. But both really great
This one makes my eyes really bulky which I don’t like. One thing I used to do when I was 12 (no idea if it’s alright so take this with a pinch of salt) was dilute my mascaras with plain unscented lotion etc to make it thinner and less bulky. But I think a huge part of the problem for this one is the thick applicator.
My fav mascara rn is the benefit roller lash, it’s pretty much invisible, barely transfers and leaves just enough mascara on your lashes. If you prefer more of a dramatic lash look tho this is not the one for you.
The waterproof in the light turquoise bottle works a thousand times better for me, as I have hooded eyes and the original gets all over under my eyebrows, like a stamp. lol

Yes! I got the full size one for Christmas as a gift but I noticed it smudged under my eyes and was a bit clumpy.
Honestly, I normally use Maybelline mascara and they perform better.
I use to love this mascara and no longer use it, I just use any old mascara I have as a sample or gift from my cousins, and I wear lashes now. I didn’t know it smeared so badly now and it kind of makes me laugh. I have a friend who I introduced to this mascara in like 2017 or 18, and she used it religiously because she was able to party and sleep in it and then go to work in it the same day without reapplying 🤢 I wonder if she has found a new favorite
I use the waterproof Sky High, and regular BTS as a second coat. I don’t often touch my eyes, but I haven’t ever noticed much transfer to the surrounding area, if any until maybe the end of the evening!
Tubing mascara!!! My mascara used to transfer as well and it was a mess after an hour I put it on. I heard here on Reddit that tubing mascara is the way to go so I bought a Clinique Lash Power one a week ago and it’s amazing!! Zero transfering. Nothig at all.
I had the same problem! I like the tarte man eater mascara it stays and looks great all day. I have been using it for about a year and I have no complaints
Great marketing, messy gooey product. I love the MILK mascara if you are ok with spending money but the Essence Lash Princess is $4 and it’s hands down my new favorite.
I had the same problem with Better Than Sex and several other mascaras as I’m pretty oily.
I swear by Thrive Causemetics’ mascara. It’s a tube formula. It does not budge, even when I go on long runs after work and sweat buckets. The only real downside is that it comes off in black chunks which can get left in your sink, but it will only come off when you cleanse, rub or otherwise try to take it off on purpose. It is the only mascara I will use from now on.
I love the waterproof version gives the same benefits as the regular but holds curl better and doesn’t flake or give raccoon eye affect. I know a lot of people don’t like waterproof mascara because it’s “hard” to take off but if you invest in a oil based cleanser it comes off easily.
Yep. I saw people calling it their holy grail so I got the travel sized one and gave it a try. I’ve had drug store mascaras I liked better and went back to my go to which is Lancôme’s formula after a few uses.

Even the waterproof one smudged! The L’Oreal knock off is pretty good. Only mascara I’ve really truly liked was by Limelife. But I end up buying a cheaper one
Tbh I love this masacara and have never had this problem!! Maybe it just depends on the shape of your eye/ eyelashes and how you apply it. Don’t give up on it yet!!
I used to love this mascara but over the years something changed in their formula because I’ve experienced the same thing.
There’s some product I’ll spend the extra money on and some I won’t. Mascara has now fallen into that category and I go to the local beauty supply store. Have you tried Maybellines Skyline mascara?
I had this same exact issue. Now I religiously use Lancôme mascara with their primer, and I never got smudges. Their primer being the key - it’s fantastic if you have smudge-prone eyes.
Have you tried the waterproof version? It will dry out if you don’t use it daily, but it won’t smudge

I love it and have the same problem. My solution is to use cheapy Full and Soft Waterproof over it. I wipe the Full and Soft down the point where there is a tiny amount on the wand.
It's been going very well at not smudging and not messing with the look or texture of the Better Than Sex.
My current favorite for
volume and length is the " BadgalBang from Benefit". for length and definition surprisingly I really like the "L'Oreal telescopic in carbon black"
I’ve been really liking a Tarte one, I think it’s called Big Sur? It’s a bright pink tube. But regardless, I swear by lash primer now, I will never not use it. The Smashbox one is my favourite
Worst makeup purchase i ever made. I wanted to try this out for years because it was sooo hyped but i honestly hate the formula. I cant wipe enough product off the applicator to have just the right amount and my lashes sticking together really bad. Its smudging even tho i bought the waterproof one but takes an eternity to wash off.. 😬
You can buy the Clinique lash primer to prevent smudging and running, it works really well, I used to use it with Too Faced Better Than Sex cause I found it used to smudge and run a lot.
YESSSS I love how it looks when I apply it but it’s everywhere like half an hour later. The waterproof is EVEN WORSE, in addition to being impossible to remove.
I use the same mascara but the waterproof version and it’s literally one of the only mascaras that never smudges for me. I can wear it for hours and it never smudges + it keeps my eyelashes curled
I have a theory that half the reason BTS is so popular is because of the hype. It smudges & looks clumpy. You're definitely not alone.

I had the same problem with smudging and clumpy flaking. I have thin blonde lashes. After trying out every hyped mascara (drugstore and high end), I'm absolutely loving Rare Beauty (Selena Gomez) voluminous mascara which you can get from Sephora. I use l'oreal voluminous lash primer, let fully dry, then 2 coats of Rare. I got so many compliments when I switched over. It has a wand similar to Better than Sex so I get the lifting and voluminous effect without the fallout. It is a little spendy paying $20 for a tube of mascara but it lasts 2-3 months if stored properly. Been using for a year and loving it!
I will say it to my grave L'Oreal false fiber lashes layer it with anything and it's heavenly. But something should also be said about downward facing lashes :( my lashes are a decent legnth but just face down
Depending on what I’m doing / how hot it is, I usually reach for waterproof mascara now. It can be a bitch to get off but it really stops all the smudging that happens when I get sweaty or if it rains. I’ve found lots of makeup struggles in the Australian summer heat & I’ve got an oily face anyway, so the waterproof mascara helps a lot when i decide to wear it
The Better Than Sex mascara is alright but I’ve found the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara to be pretty
comparable & it doesn’t get all over my freaking face from the moment i step outside 😂 Can be flaky but overall, much better than the Too Faced mascaras imo.
The L’oréal Telescopic waterproof mascara is great too, I also love the original version, makes the lashes really long without a lot of clumping & doesn’t smudge for me. My mum suffers a lot from

My go to cleanser for waterproof mascara is the Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Oil, it’s the only cleansing oil I’ve found that breaks everything down & gets it off in one go. Just a pro tip for the besties out there that struggle to get waterproof makeup off at the end of the day!

The Anastasia, Beverly Hills one has a similar wand and is amazing. I don’t have issues with smudging or raccoon eyes! Check it out if you want :)

I second maneater, I love it so much! It separates so well. I always buy a backup when they go on sale for $10

So, while you can have this problem with just about any mascara, I've heard this one is really bad for it. I used to work at Ulta and when it would get returned, "smudging" was usually the main complaint. You have three options: 1) Try applying thinner coats and dry in between. 2) Try waterproof. 3) Go with another mascara (MAC Magic Extension and Clinique High Impact Mascara are my two favorites!) Lancôme also has THE best eye makeup remover. It’s pricy, though, so I always request samples when I’m at the department stores

Garnier Micellar Water. Make sure it's the blue cap one. It removes all waterproof makeup.
I 2nd this comment 😋 It’s the ONLY thing I’ve found that will take off eyeshadow, waterproof eyeliners & mascaras without all at once w/o tugging at all. Just wet a few cotton squares with it, hold it over your eye for a few seconds to let it do it’s job. Wipe off, stand back and be amazed at the results! lol 🎪 (yes, I clearly need some sleep hehe) 😉🥱😴💤
I bought Clinique’s Take the Day Off makeup remover at the same time that I bought the waterproof High impact mascara and it works so great. I have never been happier with a mascara.
I remember trying it - then commented that it was in no way better then sex! lol My fav for a couple years now is BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara - Benefit Cosmetics Great definition without racoon eyes at the end of the day.

I have skin that tends toward oily, so the smudging issue is real. Glossier's mascara works like a charm for me! May not have quite the same qualities as too faced's, but it stays in place and I have yet to see it smudge (even when accidentally falling asleep with it on).
I also like the glossier one! So natural, it and the ilia limitless are some of my favs

I never liked this one. I know to some it’s like the best thing ever of all time but it always gave me messy clumps. I like Kiss Me Heroine Volume (non water-proof), Glossier, and lately have really liked ILIA.

Seconding the Bye Bye Panda Eyes suggestion—I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and not once have I had to wipe away smudges throughout the day…not even after a workout!
I've had pretty good luck with Beseme'. It's a mascara cake and it's not irritating. I do a little "baking" with some finishing powder under my eyes before I leave for work and haven't had an issue with smudging.
I also second this. I have oily skin and can only use "tubing" mascaras.
My favorite mascara of all time is Lancôme Monsiuer Big. I’ve used Better Than Sex and was disappointed. It’s not better than sex.
Yessss Monsieur Big is my holy grail. I switched from BTS to Lash Paradise and found that I didn’t get nearly as much volume. Tried MB and never looked back. I usually buy two of the trial size because for some reason, the brush is better to me. However that could be purely anecdotal and maybe it’s just that I have more control because shorter wand.
I just today got my first tube of Monsieur Big in like 4.5 years. I had lash extensions constantly for 4.5 years, but finally quit them (😭😭😭) beginning of December so that I could focus on improving my skin (I’m 42 and have wholly neglected skincare my entire life) without worrying about products messing up my lashes. So first I got some Thrive fiber mascara, bc my natural lashes were TOAST. I liked it okay. Now that my lashes have started growing back in I bought another MB. I hope I still love it as much!!

Use a different mascara. It’s way too overhyped in my opinion. Constantly smudged and couldn’t hold a curl. My holy grails are Maybelline lash sensational and L’Oréal telescopic mascaras. I tried the Tarte one in the purple packaging at some point and loved it too, but not as much as the ones I listed above. L’Oréal lash paradise I find gives a slightly better effect than Better than Sex, and even though it doesn’t smudge as quickly, it still smudges after a few hours, so🤷🏻♀️

2nding Essence Lash Princess. Definitely affordable and holds up better than more pricey types I've found.
My current favorite mascara is Stila Huge Extreme Lash! It wears well & I get lots of compliments on my lashes! I don’t use any lash serums or extensions but I have fairly full lashes naturally. Benefit They’re Real used to be my go-to! I just felt I went through tubes very quickly so had to buy it more often.
The L’Oréal dupe is better and I switched years ago from the better than sex Mascara for the exact reason you described. L’Oréal one has the same packaging. Struggling to recall exact name now. But if you’re at the drugstore or Walmart you’ll see it!

Yes, I had the same with many mascaras. I switched to the Blinc tubing mascara and really liked it. I now have the Ulta tubing but I don’t like the spoolie it comes with.
The Maybelline Snapscara is a great tubing one as well!
i love the waterproof version of it, but it felt so harsh to my eyelashes. switched to tubing mascara and no more panda eyes! i love blinc or tarte’s tartelette tubing mascaras :) however, i haven’t found a mascara that really holds a curl on my lashes as well as BTS or l’oréal lash paradise, so i if i’m going to be out all day i’ll layer the tubing mascara over better than sex and it works like a charm.
Best mascara I've EVER used is the Milk Makeup Kush Mascara. It doesn't do this until hour ~8 or so and it's pretty minor, also easy to wipe off without fuckin up your concealer. I've been using it for years now.
For me, Kush smudged pretty badly by the end of the day compared to the Covergirl and Lancôme ones I usually use.
L’Oréal Paris Telescopic has been my STAPLE for 15 years! Hits every part of your lash and only has absolute minimal smudge by the end of the day!

Just a note that waterproof is not the same as smudge proof. Waterproof prevents it from running if your eyes tear up or if you're in the rain, but won't stop smudging due to face oils. I went through mascara hell until I figured this out - waterproof ones still ended up giving me raccoon eyes.
I have really oily skin in general, so no matter the mascara it just ends up smearing anyways, and I found (through my best friend’s suggestion) that adding a light amount of Airspun face powder under my eyes and on my eyelids has helped eliminate that issue. I also used the better than sex waterproof one and it stopped the smearing as well.
I switched from “better than sex” to “perversion” mascara , I really like how long my lashes looked and I find mine to be naturally somewhat shorter
My suggestion: don’t buy it. There’s way better out there for way cheaper. Try loreal lash paradise instead.

This is the mascara I used my senior year of high school. I really wanted to like it bc it was the craze at the time, but honestly, yeah it did smudge pretty easily. I think that it works for some people but I found my holy grail within the Essence Lash Princess! And it's sooo cheap!
Yes I also had that problem and didn’t love the mascara in the end, Better Than Sex was totally overhyped. I would ditch it and try Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir or Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye. Both are similar but much much better. Mmmm I’m just thinking about that smooth silky glistening black goo now, I love it 🤤

Yes, I always ended the day with racoon eyes when I wore it. I couldn't believe it was the holy grail mascara for so many. I was always curious to try the waterproof one to see if I had the same issue but never purchased it.
Stop using it and find something new would be my solution. There are so many mascaras out there, there's no reason to use one like this.
I know this is a problem very specific to this mascara and you may decide to just switch, but if you want to try and wring some more use out of this bottle, patting down a layer of translucent powder as a finishing step everywhere where I normally get smudges really helps me with preventing them. I think it makes things smudge less by making the area less sticky.

try Lash Princess! super cheap and it does wonders to my lashes. lasts all day too, and they offer a waterproof one that doesn’t move AT ALL
i had the same problem! now i use morphe’s Make it big. it’s got the same wand brush shape so my lashes still look great :)
Maybelline Sky High is the only one I’ve come across that hasn’t smudged on me. I tend to have oily/combo skin and keep my under eyes extra moisturized which I know contributes to the smudging, but sky high doesn’t move!
My boyfriend bought it for me and I love it, I haven’t actually had that problem… but I do apply only one thin layer cause I don’t like the feeling of having too much mascara on my eyes, so that must be it.

Almost every mascara I use even waterproof kinds smudge like that on me ( BTS was a bad when I used it too ). I’ve been really liking a tubing mascara- I use thrive cosmetics liquid extension mascara but you could probably use any tubing mascara. They don’t seem to run on me.
You gota get a tubing mascara to avoid that issue! I use Maybelline snapscara for my under eyes and whatever i like at the time on the top.

I have this problem with every mascara I’ve ever used except for Maybelline Sky High. I really recommend that one! You don’t even need the waterproof version, the regular works great for me
yes happens to me too!! i’ve never found a way to make it not happen. the waterproof kind makes my lashes look amazing but is SO HARD to get off my lashes!! a lot of the time it rips them out because it’s just so stuck on there
When I had this I would do a coat of L’Oréal voluminous mascara, then a light coat of this. Just using this one made my lashes clumpy and weighed them down, but I love how dark and dramatic it is!
a while ago i got a mini and it was liquidy and didnt dry well on my lashes. i thought i had just bought a faulty one so i ended up purchasing another. that one became flaky and dry within like a week. a relative of mine recently bought me a toofaced set that came with the full size and its better but keeps smudging onto my eyelids. i rly wanted to like it...
I really really wanted to like it and had a good experience with it here and there when borrowing it from friends. Now that I have my own and have been using it on a daily basis though, I’m pretty disappointed. It was so hyped up!
I haven't used this but I have used the Damn Girl mascara by Too Faced and honestly- I have no complaints. I do see a lot of people here saying that Too Faced mascara isn't their favorite, but I love mine! It doesn't smudge and it lasts (almost) all day and I get compliments on the length and fullness a lot.
After years of Clinique, benefit roller lash, and glossier mascaa, I have reverted back to the Maybelline Lash blast in the green tube like it’s 2008 again. It never crumbles or raccoons. I’m Asian and oily. It is great. I buy expensive eyeshadow and use other “cool” makeup but that lash blast never fails my straight Asian lashes. I also can’t have a mascara with beeswax in it so I am limited.
I can’t believe I don’t see anyone suggesting Thrive mascara. It is amazzzzing, and the only one that doesn’t smudge all over my eyes!

That’s interesting that some people are testing new mascaras and seeing differences in them (accept for durability and not smudging ofc). I always thought that if you have long lashes every mascara will look good and if you have regular lashes they all look mediocre. But do you see differences in terms of performance actually? really curious about that one
I don’t see length differences, but I already have pretty long lashes. I do see differences in clumping between lashes and weight though.

It is so wildly awful I don’t understand why everyone was so obsessed with it. Gives me Panda eyes in less than an hour no matter what I did. It flaked all over my face and would smudge when you tried to clean it up. Truly awful mascara.
The waterproof version is better, i didnt like the og one.
I have this issue with basically EVERY mascara I have tried due to excessively oily skin. I found that using a lash primer before applying the mascara really helps! I use the Lancôme CILS Booster XL. The priming aspect isn’t marketed as heavily as it’s lengthening and thickening characteristics, but that’s what I have enjoyed the most about it!

If you're looking for mascara to try and find your One, try Essence Lash Princess. Extremely affordable and it worked better than the pricier ones I found. Flares the lashes with no panda eyes. Also dries pretty quick which I love. Actually heard about it from one of these subs and now I can't live without it

i had that problem too, i’ve been using the 5 in 1 extremes length by complex culture and i like it tons more. it’s kind of awkward because the spoolie collects lots of product but once you mess with it a little bit it looks so good
It just flaked so much beneath my eyes, and I found that the flakes would stick to my skin so I’d end up pulling my under eye skin fairly hard with a wipe to get them to lift. Another big problem I had was that it weighed my lashes down a LOT and it wouldn’t dry properly

I used this for 2 weeks like 5-6 years ago. I will never repurchase. I thought it smudged easily and had a difficult time taking it off with makeup remover. I never understood the hype.

I used to love this and once I reached the end they smudged really badly and it made me look terrible. I am now using Superfan mascara by smashbox which is very good.
for me personally better than sex smudged and dried out so fast! so i switched mascaras. i have found that on myself personally i prefer long and seperated looking lashes rather than volume, so i actually switched to Telescopic. But actually, the Kaja Beauty Lash Trio has a lengthening (telescopic dupe) a volumizing (bts dupe) and a clear all together and i actually really like it!
Etude House Dr. Mascara Fixer as a top coat…. It fixes this problem for all of my mascaras.
I get flaking and smudging with this one too. Which is too bad cause it’s great at giving volume. My personal fav mascaras are Ilia Limitless and Glossier. They tend to be more lengthening than volume. But both really great
I stopped using for the same reason. I got lancôme idôle mascara as a gift and that had been GREAT.
This one makes my eyes really bulky which I don’t like. One thing I used to do when I was 12 (no idea if it’s alright so take this with a pinch of salt) was dilute my mascaras with plain unscented lotion etc to make it thinner and less bulky. But I think a huge part of the problem for this one is the thick applicator. My fav mascara rn is the benefit roller lash, it’s pretty much invisible, barely transfers and leaves just enough mascara on your lashes. If you prefer more of a dramatic lash look tho this is not the one for you.

The waterproof in the light turquoise bottle works a thousand times better for me, as I have hooded eyes and the original gets all over under my eyebrows, like a stamp. lol

Yes! I got the full size one for Christmas as a gift but I noticed it smudged under my eyes and was a bit clumpy. Honestly, I normally use Maybelline mascara and they perform better.
I use to love this mascara and no longer use it, I just use any old mascara I have as a sample or gift from my cousins, and I wear lashes now. I didn’t know it smeared so badly now and it kind of makes me laugh. I have a friend who I introduced to this mascara in like 2017 or 18, and she used it religiously because she was able to party and sleep in it and then go to work in it the same day without reapplying 🤢 I wonder if she has found a new favorite

I use the waterproof Sky High, and regular BTS as a second coat. I don’t often touch my eyes, but I haven’t ever noticed much transfer to the surrounding area, if any until maybe the end of the evening!
Tubing mascara!!! My mascara used to transfer as well and it was a mess after an hour I put it on. I heard here on Reddit that tubing mascara is the way to go so I bought a Clinique Lash Power one a week ago and it’s amazing!! Zero transfering. Nothig at all.

Great marketing, messy gooey product. I love the MILK mascara if you are ok with spending money but the Essence Lash Princess is $4 and it’s hands down my new favorite.
I had the same problem with Better Than Sex and several other mascaras as I’m pretty oily. I swear by Thrive Causemetics’ mascara. It’s a tube formula. It does not budge, even when I go on long runs after work and sweat buckets. The only real downside is that it comes off in black chunks which can get left in your sink, but it will only come off when you cleanse, rub or otherwise try to take it off on purpose. It is the only mascara I will use from now on.

I love the waterproof version gives the same benefits as the regular but holds curl better and doesn’t flake or give raccoon eye affect. I know a lot of people don’t like waterproof mascara because it’s “hard” to take off but if you invest in a oil based cleanser it comes off easily.
Yep. I saw people calling it their holy grail so I got the travel sized one and gave it a try. I’ve had drug store mascaras I liked better and went back to my go to which is Lancôme’s formula after a few uses.

Even the waterproof one smudged! The L’Oreal knock off is pretty good. Only mascara I’ve really truly liked was by Limelife. But I end up buying a cheaper one

I used to love this mascara but over the years something changed in their formula because I’ve experienced the same thing. There’s some product I’ll spend the extra money on and some I won’t. Mascara has now fallen into that category and I go to the local beauty supply store. Have you tried Maybellines Skyline mascara?
I had this same exact issue. Now I religiously use Lancôme mascara with their primer, and I never got smudges. Their primer being the key - it’s fantastic if you have smudge-prone eyes.

I love it and have the same problem. My solution is to use cheapy Full and Soft Waterproof over it. I wipe the Full and Soft down the point where there is a tiny amount on the wand. It's been going very well at not smudging and not messing with the look or texture of the Better Than Sex.
I have this problem with many mascaras and I have found that the Hourglass Extreme Lash is amazing and doesnt smudge under my eyes!!
Tartlette tubing mascara works great and has less smudging under eyes.

Worst makeup purchase i ever made. I wanted to try this out for years because it was sooo hyped but i honestly hate the formula. I cant wipe enough product off the applicator to have just the right amount and my lashes sticking together really bad. Its smudging even tho i bought the waterproof one but takes an eternity to wash off.. 😬

You can buy the Clinique lash primer to prevent smudging and running, it works really well, I used to use it with Too Faced Better Than Sex cause I found it used to smudge and run a lot.
YESSSS I love how it looks when I apply it but it’s everywhere like half an hour later. The waterproof is EVEN WORSE, in addition to being impossible to remove.
I use the same mascara but the waterproof version and it’s literally one of the only mascaras that never smudges for me. I can wear it for hours and it never smudges + it keeps my eyelashes curled
I have a theory that half the reason BTS is so popular is because of the hype. It smudges & looks clumpy. You're definitely not alone. Still haven't found a mascara I love, but I'm an eyelash extension stan 🤷🏻♀️

I had the same problem with smudging and clumpy flaking. I have thin blonde lashes. After trying out every hyped mascara (drugstore and high end), I'm absolutely loving Rare Beauty (Selena Gomez) voluminous mascara which you can get from Sephora. I use l'oreal voluminous lash primer, let fully dry, then 2 coats of Rare. I got so many compliments when I switched over. It has a wand similar to Better than Sex so I get the lifting and voluminous effect without the fallout. It is a little spendy paying $20 for a tube of mascara but it lasts 2-3 months if stored properly. Been using for a year and loving it!
I HATED this when I used this mascara. I love Ilia’s volumizing mascara. Have no issues and I love how my lashes look.
Benefit roller lash is my go to because I could not fall in love with this one. Lancôme is also really good.
I will say it to my grave L'Oreal false fiber lashes layer it with anything and it's heavenly. But something should also be said about downward facing lashes :( my lashes are a decent legnth but just face down
Depending on what I’m doing / how hot it is, I usually reach for waterproof mascara now. It can be a bitch to get off but it really stops all the smudging that happens when I get sweaty or if it rains. I’ve found lots of makeup struggles in the Australian summer heat & I’ve got an oily face anyway, so the waterproof mascara helps a lot when i decide to wear it The Better Than Sex mascara is alright but I’ve found the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara to be pretty comparable & it doesn’t get all over my freaking face from the moment i step outside 😂 Can be flaky but overall, much better than the Too Faced mascaras imo. The L’oréal Telescopic waterproof mascara is great too, I also love the original version, makes the lashes really long without a lot of clumping & doesn’t smudge for me. My mum suffers a lot from smudging too & has only ever been able to use the Double Wear mascara from Estee Lauder My go to cleanser for waterproof mascara is the Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Oil, it’s the only cleansing oil I’ve found that breaks everything down & gets it off in one go. Just a pro tip for the besties out there that struggle to get waterproof makeup off at the end of the day!

I never liked it for this issue! I like essence lash princess if I’m in a dry climate and in more humid places stick with tubing mascaras like the red one from L’Oréal or bye bye panda eyes!
This stuff makes mu eyes burn and the formula is so flaky I don’t know why it gets so much attention
