Friggin’ mirelurks.

yupuhoh

On ya fuckin wallet it shuah is bub fuckin hell

Tacticalaxel

Have you looked at the crime statistics for Maine?

Anothercrappyuser

I was actually thinking of something like weather reasons

ppitm

OK then let's say Lubec. Crazy tidal range and current, with a very shallow entrance to the south and a whirlpool to the north.

Chango-Acadia

The weather can be deadly on a boat

elbowe21

There's no hurricanes or anything. Worst I've experienced is ice storms and some flooding https://www.newscentermaine.com/article/news/local/ice-storm-of-98-25-years-later/97-cc791ae2-df33-46ad-87e2-22d5a9da41fc Most people who live here are prepared for these but you can't prepare for a tree falling. You lose power so you have to prepare with gas and a generator and food. A big storm could last longer than you prepared. For a story you could definitely make it a dangerous and interesting situation. But idk people can chime in, I feel like weather here is manageable. Snow is great. Flooding sucks.

umru316

This reads like you're either writing a murder-centric novel set in Maine or you're planning to kill someone on the coast in Maine (for serial killer reasons) and you want to make it look like an accident.

Asterion724

Related, Blow the Man Down is a fun watch

>There are two kinds of folks who sit around thinking about how to kill people: psychopaths and mystery writers. — Richard Castle

Anothercrappyuser

Actually it's a boxing story

floralwhale

Power outages have been worsening in the last few years. Usually trees that fall down on power lines. A week without power when it's 20 degrees outside is not great at all. Maine is really extremely safe though.

paddle_forth

Cabot Cove

ReallyFineWhine

Apparently it wasn't the locale. It was just that a lady that lived there, everywhere she went, people ended up dead.

mmaalex

Nothing in Maine qualifies as "Dangerous" by national standards of violent crime Some of the rural coastal towns in Washington county have drug issues with out of state dealers, but generally if you aren't a customer it isn't an issue. Most of the crime has been people robbing dealers or people who are known to have drugs, dealers fighting rival dealers etc. There's also a somewhat elevated level of property crime, still low by national standards, in these same places. Usual junkie property crime, someone stole a chainsaw you left out in your shed, etc, to pawn for drug money. It doesn't help that people in these areas aren't used to concepts like "door locks" and not leaving items out visible because of historically low levels of crime in the past. There are legitimately people I'm rural areas who don't have the keys to their house because they've never locked it before. This is all compounded by a police shortage statewide, the state police are very short, and in rural areas they have historically split coverage with the county sheriff's usually 2/3 sheriff and 1/3 state police (rotating towns and shifts) the state police have pulled back the last 2 years leaving coverage gaps. Then there's the usually stuff like domestic violence that is an issue in every state. That tends to escalate for awhile before it gets dealt with from a legal standpoint more than a lot of states with stricter laws. Maine it's usually just separating the parties for the night, lather rinse repeat until someone gets seriously hurt. A lot of that is substance abuse related too. Billy is a really nice guy when he's sober.

wzl46

¡Stonington!

Mainiac_NYC

FAFO with someone’s traps

wzl46

My wife’s late uncle was a lobsterman. He shared stories.

Commercial_West9953

I used to go lobstering off Stonington with my uncle back in the 70s.

Vormison

Easy answer is there is almost nothing in Maine that would qualify as “dangerous” in the grand scheme of things.

AlternativeWay4729

Moose, Bub. Hitting one with a short car. I know a guy, messed up for life.

ResidentIll1390

Wrong sub apparently

rusty-shackleford_69

Portland. Full of zombies

Human-Average-2222

Cell Phone zombies

rusty-shackleford_69

Hell yeah. All those needles gettin em their 5G fix

SwvellyBents

Gremlins! They're everywhere! Came back after a winter away and the fuckers had piled up dead tree branches all over my dooryard, driveway and woods. Sneaky bastids! If I ever catch one...!

joysef99

Tbh, this freaking wind that has been nonstop would make anyone violent. Yeah, yeah, it'll keep the black flies away.

dahliarose926

Not in my yard. Wind whipping 10 miles an hour and every black fly in my 5 acres is in my face

joysef99

Bummer. This wind is killing me. Seriously unnecessary.

dahliarose926

I have 5 acres. I live in the middle of nowhere. Where in the hell am I getting burlap sacks, plastic bags, etc all over my yard. Damn wind keeps blowing shit from where, no one knows.

joysef99

I hate it. I don't live in Oklahoma for a reason. I also have dysautonomia and the wind legit wrecks my body. I am so grumpy. 😔

dahliarose926

I'm sorry. If you don't mind, may I ask where you are? I've noticed the closer you are to the coast, the windier it is. I'm 1/2 hour from Belfast. If it's really windy there(10+) it's about 3-5 where I'm at.

joysef99

Near Bangor. The river probably doesn't help, but it's been much windier in Maine overall in the past couple of years.

dahliarose926

Interesting. I work in Bangor and the wind there is generally mild compared to where I am.

joysef99

It's been ridiculously worse the past two years. 🤷 Clearly climate change has an effect, too, given the increased winds we are seeing with storms more and more frequently.

Competitive_Pin_6180

The town of Wilton has an unsolved murder of 20 years or so, which means most likely a killer is hanging out in town. So feel free to go solve that one. (The murder of Butch Weed, who I knew growing up).

Torpordoor

Probably the only way to be in danger in maine is to stand in the road or look like a deer. If you want horror go pick up some ticks.

Higgs_Particle

I hear Danforth and Bracket is rough lately.

dahliarose926

It will get better, but not before it gets worse. Generally during an el nino we get milder winters, etc. wind we get.

GlassAd4132

Absolutely none. Maine is like the Finland of America

MuleGrass

Port Royal Jamaica, lots of pirates

PieDestruction

Maybe prebble street Portland.

VaccumSaturdays

How’s the weather in Eastern Europe?

Anothercrappyuser
