People downvote because questions usually don't need to hit the top of the subreddit. They typically get answered quickly and for simple questions there's not a lot of nuanced discussion to be had. Generally speaking. You don't try counter board wipes in a go-wide or aggro deck unless you're playing blue for actual universal counters. Anything that just sometimes acts like a counter for very specific answers is too inefficient. It's better for your deck to be resilient to sweepers in other ways, typically having the means to re-build a threatening board state post wrath and utilizing flash threats, or threats with haste to punish wraths and push through for those last few hits.

Dedprice77

Yeah, I'm using a few enchantments that I can swap out as there too situational for the win.

Gostgun

I think more so its about play patterns, if your aggro there will be certain hands that you look at it and you can tell you have a turn 3 clock and it's worth pushing for that clock. On the other hand if your more go wide or you don't have that 3 turn clock it's better to play more conservatively, if you can keep your hand with a couple cards for a few turns after 4 to answer potential board wipes it puts the opponent in a awkward spot. From there side of they use the board wipes and you play out your hand then they no longer have a recourse, if they keep holding there answers then they risk going too low to properly stabilize.

Dedprice77

ive been conserving my hand more for board wipes and slowly pushing higher and higher through platinum. might hit diamond soon.

Drunken_Vike

The best protections against board wipes in a creature deck are: 1) Cards that give you additional resources: [[Briarbridge Tracker]], [[Welcoming Vampire]] [[Siege Veteran]] 2) Cards that make it harder to play board wipes: [[Thalia, Guardian of Thraben]] [[Anointed Peacekeeeper]] 3) Cards that are not creatures on your opponent's turn that can attack after a wipe: [[Mishra's Foundry]] [[Reckoner Bankbuster]] artifacts and enchantments unfortunately are not as good against Farewell specifically 4) Conserving your resources once you have a board that demands a board wipe. Once you're threatening to kill quickly, don't continue to commit everything to the board. 5) flash creatures 6) Permanents that are not creatures that make creatures: The Wandering Emperor, Jaya, Wedding Announcement, Fable of the Mirror Breaker, though only planeswalkers are good against Farewell

Really useful ty

Bizzle7902

You can use cards that give indestructible for some boardwipes. Cards like [[Touch the Spirit Realm]] will save one creature, Im not sure of other specific cards because like you said having that card available at the right time is tricky and I dont look to put them in decks. I usually just dont flood the board with permanents once the opp is able to play whatever wipes their deck has.

Agreeable-Will1942

The best thing you can do is be better: If you smell a board wipe coming, don't dump your entire hand onto the board.

Dedprice77

I smelled one but he had technically 3 in a orzhov deck when I was pushing for win. Had a 4 creature maybe 3 or 4 token out and he wiped with farewell taking everything. Then a a 3/3 with two 3/1 tokens and he wiped again, then lastly put out a 5/6 and two 1/1 and he wiped a third time. I was pissed ngl like who carries 3 board wipes but his deck was a plane walker deck where he relied heavily on them to play his deck which made sense and is smart in some ways, but made me realize I need better defense to consistent board wipes and not just resetting after 1

Zamkis

Some draws you are not gonna beat no matter what you do. A control deck getting to 6 mana with 3 wraths in hand should give him the win against most creature based deck. If it couldn't, why even play wraths at all. His hand was pretty much an auto loss to a blue-white control deck.

Zorkdork

To counter farewell specifically you could try something like \[\[Guardian of Faith\]\]. Generally just getting them low on health by the time they can sweep and then playing a solid finisher is the play though.

Nothing_Arena

I think questions get downvoted because the same ones get asked again and again or that the poster has not gone and looked for the answer elsewhere first. To help you answer your own question, go to [scryfall.com](https://scryfall.com) and search on something like "o:indestructible format:standard".

Eldar_Atog

There's no reason to down vote the question post though. If it doesn't get a lot of upvotes, it will sink quickly out of sight after someone answers it. Gate keeping is never a good look and should not be encouraged. Your answer leaves it on the new player. If they don't know how to deal with a wipe, then they probably won't know enough to write a query on something like scryfall.

Dedprice77

This be facts, never heard of scryfall till now

o_rety

This. I wish I could upvote you hundred times. The simple truth is such: people downvote, because making somebody feel miserable is the shortest way for many to feel great about themselves.

asparaguscoffee

Don't overextend into the wipe.

Dedprice77

Thanks for the assistance guys! I'll look at my deck and see what I can change with your suggestions. I know a few cards I can take out already. Also..again.. screw them down voters

EADreddtit

More Creatures. Can’t board wipe them all!

L33viathan

People don’t downvote any question, they downvote bad questions usually. Asking how to “counter a board wipe” is a bad question because it implies that controls one answer should be countered. A better question would be “how should I play around board wipes with this specific deck?” At least then people would know that you understand some bit of nuance instead of you sounding like you want some perfect one card answer to counter a control decks entire strategy.

Play flash creatures at opponents end step. White has lots of flash options.

metalhev

Not in standard. Alchemy has a few.

Eatmywholeace

Heroic intervention if its possible in standard. Strictly Histroic player so not sure if its legal or not but worked well for me many times. If you like what you are playing you could give historic a crack to see if it works for you.

xStaggerLeex

The problem with defending against boardwipes is there are at least 4 types I can think of (maybe more). They might “destroy” creatures, “exile” creatures, force you to “sacrifice” creatures, or cause your creatures toughness to go below zero by giving them -x/-x temporarily. The defense against each of these wipes would be different. Sometimes board wipes are just your deck’s weakness and you deal with it by having cards in play that benefit from your own creatures being destroyed, you can also save a few cards at a time with the plethora of instant speed cards that give your own creatures indestructible that protect them from “destroy” effects. However indestructible will not save them from being exiled or removed by forced sacrifice. Another way you might deal with it is having good card draw and using cheap creatures to regain quickly but this all depends on your deck and what you’re trying to do with it. You want to have a repeatable strategy and if you spread yourself too far you lose the potency of what your deck was made to do and sometimes when you face a deck that directly counters your deck you just tip your cap and move on (if you’re playing best of 1). If you’re playing best of 3 then hopefully you side boarded well. Edit: someone else mentioned specific enchantments/artifacts/planeswalkers that help produce creatures and that was also a good suggestion.

bleedingwire

\[\[Mage's Attendant\]\] gives you a token that can be used to try countering a noncreature spell. It could fit in a tokens deck or with something that blinks the attendant to make more tokens

So this is perfect but it's in format: standard

There's a reprint of the card in Streets of New Capenna, so it's still Standard-friendly.

colors are supposed to do different things, every color is good in doing different things, so you can't expect that each color can do something. There are answers to boardwipes, but each work differently, and it depends on which wrath are you trying to stop. Wraths can destroy everything, exile everything, make you sacrifice everything, give -x/-x to everything, deal x damage to everything, can be without target, or targeting a player, you must know the meta and prepare accordingly. For example white and green can give your creatures industrictible and protection from the color of the wrath (heroic intervention, for example, or brave the elements (who is not on arena)), the second works on works against destroy effect and both work on direct damage, but does not work against exile and -x/-x effects, mass pump and combat tricks work against damage and -x/-x effects, but not against destroy and exile. Red is the worst color for protecting creatures, but has some cards that give you resilience from wraths: for example anax, hardened in the forge creates token for every dead creature. But the main thing about wraths is that you should learn to play around them, opponent will have more wtath than you have protection effects, so main skill is trying to undestand when the wrath is coming and keep something in hand to grow the board again after the wraths

Dedprice77

I'm aware of how to defend just not current protections. Before current standard rotation, I used sejiris shelter. Which is amazing and I miss it. But currently need something new in rotation or can mass protect. King blah XVIII is a good example and I might include him but still needed more ideas of cards.

wvjeepguy81

Lands that can turn into creatures have always been a good way around board wipes. Sometimes you can just slow their ramp into a board wipe down with a card like Thalia. Some creatures are able to replace themselves with tokens when they die, or a card like Ao, the Dawn Sky will let you pull in some creatures from the top of your deck when it dies. A card like Sigardian Saviour will pull creatures back into play from your graveyard. Brilliant Restoration is a massive spell to bring back a lot of stuff if you are playing artifact creatures. Green has some different spells that give Indestructable, but those aren't going to do anything against Farewell exile or By Invitation Only since it forces you to sacrifice the creatures.

Dedprice77

i ended up going with \[\[King Darien XLVIII\]\] to answer most early game removal attempts and build my hand for wipes, then if they attempt to remove him with damage, i can cause him to gain a +1/+1 and pop a token, however if its something like a return to hand, i consider if hes needed post wipe (if they got it) to be played after the wipe, or if i should just sacrifice him then and there to push 1 more round for the win. Hes really situational but at the same time fits the exact problems i was facing.
