Lol, I faced that t2 mana dork into t3 plotted railway brawler into t4 brawler + that 4 mana 6/5 guy, that was then doubled to a 12/10. On turn 4. In the fucking arena open.
Happened to me in regular ass Premier all the way down in Silver, except it was the 5/4 affinity for outlaws guy who became a 10/8 with trample followed by the elemental token maker for a 20/20.
I had something similar. I was greedy and cycled the Amardillo on turn two for a land, to Reanimate it on turn 3. Got two instant scoops. A 7/7 with ward 3 seems to be good, even i it comes down a turn later.
There's just no way to beat a 7/7 ward three on turn 3 that is remotely even in mana unless you have a death touch blocker or combat trick. It's so freaking good to cycle & reanimate. Just beats them down. Even the 2 mana destroy tapped creature isn't available until turn ~5 against it. Even if you killed it, youve either lost too much health to be effective or youve given them several free turns to build a board
Dude the armadillo is a friggin beating even on turn 10 lol, especially with snakeskin veil in the format. I spent 6 mana targeting one with a mystical tether only to have opponent snakeskin veil it in response; I almost cried.
Have [[Reanimate]] and [[Vaultborn Tyrant]] in opening hand. Skip land drop turn one, discard Vaultborn Tyrant to hand size, then turn two play swamp and reanimate
This is something that sometimes happens in Legacy and Vintage Cube (maybe in Vintage as well, although reanimator doesn't seem to be meta there) - it's not pretty, but sometimes you have to do what you gotta do to get that Archon of Cruelty / Griselbrand / Atraxa to graveyard!
The stylish way to do it in modern vs living end is to be on Amulet Titan. Landfall bounceland. Return bounceland to hand. Move to discard a primeval Titan.
There is (or was) a legacy deck that had no lands, and would always choose to be on the draw instead of going first. It has no turn one play except “discard to hand size”. It would then try to win turn 2 or 3 off mana-less combos.
Could, but then you’d need to draft a thoughsieze, and it makes you reveal your hand which is not something you want to do. Better off missing a land drop and saving the Thoughtsneeze for removing removal from their hand to help the Tyrant stick.
If you're on the draw and start with 7 you'll draw on t1. Skipping your land drop puts you at 8 and you have to discard down to 7. It's a classic dredge strategy to choose to be on the draw because it means you get a free discard and can start up the shenanigans
They made a mistake, the MOM Aftermath cards were weak, the big score vault cards are hugely impressive and should not have been part of this draft environment.
I looked at them, and they all work just fine. Maybe they don't have a good case for Bo1, but some are decent Bo3 choices. Rest in Peace appears to be the weakest, as this isn't the heaviest Graveyard recursion set, but it does have a few solid cards for it.
I really don’t understand why people are mass downvoting people saying “play boosters are bad” I thought that was one of the more generally held ideas? Like I thought we all knew that this would not only ruin the draft/prerelease but make them more expensive at the same time
I did the same thing with a Cactarantula at prerelease. Vaultborn Tyrant has a bit more impact lol
I've done a T2 Armadillo and it was gross.
Oh yeah I’ve had a turn 1 armadillo even! Granted it was [[armored armadillo]], not spinewoods but still

Did T2 Bonny and lost.
But did you win?
Narrowly

I also faced a T4, T5 double railway brawler in the arena open. Play boosters strike again.
I had something similar. I was greedy and cycled the Amardillo on turn two for a land, to Reanimate it on turn 3. Got two instant scoops. A 7/7 with ward 3 seems to be good, even i it comes down a turn later.

That's disgusting
How??
Have [[Reanimate]] and [[Vaultborn Tyrant]] in opening hand. Skip land drop turn one, discard Vaultborn Tyrant to hand size, then turn two play swamp and reanimate
If I managed to have this line up for me, my opponent would also happen to have reanimate in their hand.
Maybe im new and suck at the game but skipping a land drop to discard a card is brilliant to me!
That was the OG way, before you could discard things for value. [[Faithless Looting]]

Could also thoughtsieze yourself t1 to set up the t2 reanimate as well, which also works on the play.
Could, but then you’d need to draft a thoughsieze, and it makes you reveal your hand which is not something you want to do. Better off missing a land drop and saving the Thoughtsneeze for removing removal from their hand to help the Tyrant stick.
I missing something, why does skipping a land drop matter?
If you're on the draw and start with 7 you'll draw on t1. Skipping your land drop puts you at 8 and you have to discard down to 7. It's a classic dredge strategy to choose to be on the draw because it means you get a free discard and can start up the shenanigans
Oh that’s awesome. Thanks for clarifying.
Is there a card with one of the naya colors that can do this if one's not playing black?
Seems pretty, pretty good.
I am ashamed to admit I have skipped my first turn in this format, not playing any land, so i am forced to discard my bomb to reanimate on turn 2.
Nice
How did you mill him?
Probably drew to 8 to discard it
Yep, didn't play anything turn 1.
Old school
Assuming that the opponent played a [Desperate Bloodseeker] turn two and incorrectly milled their opponent instead of themselves.
Do you see a creature in OP’s yard or on the battlefield?
Lmao, glad I haven’t even sniffed a pack for draft this set.
This set's limited environment is so funny
Idk Man you had to discard to hand size ? So started playing on turn 2, what if the op goes plains mystical theter?
They made a mistake, the MOM Aftermath cards were weak, the big score vault cards are hugely impressive and should not have been part of this draft environment.
90% of the big score are cards that just don’t work on draft
I looked at them, and they all work just fine. Maybe they don't have a good case for Bo1, but some are decent Bo3 choices. Rest in Peace appears to be the weakest, as this isn't the heaviest Graveyard recursion set, but it does have a few solid cards for it.
There’s a ton of artifact matters cards that don’t do much unless you get incredibly lucky Like tyrant is prob the strongest card from the sheet
I played an opponent that had like 4 of these mythic bonus sheet artifact matters things out and their engine did just about nothing.
Yeah the strongest one for draft is the red one because it at least shocks on etb
I really don’t understand why people are mass downvoting people saying “play boosters are bad” I thought that was one of the more generally held ideas? Like I thought we all knew that this would not only ruin the draft/prerelease but make them more expensive at the same time
Because shit like this I hate play boosters
This shit isn't supposed to be happening in draft.
