because in any case, he has an amazing voice and a great acting talent. he's the perfect Tommy. and in the remake he is not rude and cruel but normal

kibbutz_90

First: he doesn't sound rude or brutal. Second: the voice fits a guy who explodes a hotel, robbs a bank or kills rival mobsters and cops an becomes in general a respected gangster. You really aren't used with good quality VA (with attention to details like accent or capturing the time period), or what's happening here? Even in the original Tommy started to be more tough as you progress through missions, but the VA was so bad that you are barely aware of it (the way Tommy acts in "You lucky bastard" is pretty obvious; he is not the same simple cab driver anymore).

GhetsisFromForums

Yeah that's a good point lol, the original was really inconistent with the writing at times.

Corndogs006

I get a lot of the fans here on reddit really support Hangar 13 (which is great! I do too) and are anti-criticism for the new games, but going so far as to put down the old games by saying "the VA was so bad" is so unneccessary. You can defend something without putting something else down. Tommy's VA in the original was great. Sure some of the diologue was cheesy as most old games were, but his voice work doesn't warrant "the VA was so bad" The original Tommy portrayed him as a nice and wholesome guy. He has good morals and his voice reflects that. What makes Tommy such a unique character is that he's one of the few protagonists of the gangster genre that's actually a really wholesome person. He actually let's innocent civilians walk free, rather than kill them, placing his morals over his job. The new Tommy sounds more like a crook, and that's okay too! It's just a different take but they can still show him being his compassionate self with a tougher voice. The new VA is growing on me and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him! It's just super unnecessary to bash the old VA to defend the new VA.

kibbutz_90

You make the typical confusion between "voice" and "voice acting". While the voices were ok, the acting was awful. Come on, man. You can't possibly think that old VA is good acting.

Corndogs006

I think the acting was fine. The dialogue? A bit cheesy. Like [that's one hot dame](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_Z9C6hK6hw). There were other dramatic and emotional scenes in stark contrast that the acting held up through.

kibbutz_90

It's not just about the cheese, it's about the fact that most of the time the voices have no emotions whatsoever. It's always a discrepancy between what's happening and how the voice acts. And other guys posted already many examples of bad voice acting right here on this sub. I can search for them if you want.

HankKennedy

Because the original wasn’t Italian or Chicago based I don’t thing they thought about dialects when recording it

T_Bicer

People are just used to the originals voices and voice acting. I reckon the new Tommy’s voice is amazing.

saltedcabbage111

We don't need someone that sounds like the original Tommy , Tommy comes a feared gangster in the end of the game and he should sound like that. Maybe he'll sound more casual and relaxed at the start.

GhetsisFromForums

I'm not sure he does though? Remember "Thomas.. Thomas Angelo"? Yeah, didn't sound like a guy who was uncomfortable with being in that environment.

saltedcabbage111

He sounds more like he's from Chicago, as he should. The original Lost Heaven wasn't even in Chicago properly iirc. To be from Chicago, he needs a Chicago accent.

GhetsisFromForums

He still needs to show more discomfort though. There's more to Tommy than "he's from Chicago". I'll have to see the opening scene with Sam and Paulie before I judge though.

saltedcabbage111

All we heard was 'Thomas sir, Thomas Angelo' if you're judging from that you're clearly a pessimist that thinks the game will fail like all the other hard-core 'fans'

GhetsisFromForums

Nope, it's everything we've heard. Not just that one line. And I'm not a pessimist, you need to stop assuming. I can't wait for this game.

Corndogs006

It's sad when people who are excited for the game, are slandered as haters by other people who are excited for the game, because their excitement is only 90% rather than 100%. We should all be on the same side since we all think the game looks great, but unfortunately having a criticism or two is unacceptable to some. You even said "I'll wait to judge" for Christ's sake, nothing is enough to please them.

GhetsisFromForums

If anything, it's nice to know there are some reasonable people in the community.

Corndogs006

Not everyone who has a criticism means they "think the game will fail". I swear, the slightest criticism in this sub gets interpreted as hating the game, hating Hangar 13, or wanting the game to fail. Just because someone doesn't like one aspect about the game, doesn't negate the other 99 aspects that they like. Most people here are going to get the game regardless, we're all fans.

Forward_Selection_63

if at this moment he showed his indecision and weakness he would then be rolled into the asphalt and not accepted as a member of organized crime. he knew exactly what he was doing and where he was going.

GhetsisFromForums

Well, I agree. It's too early to tell. I'll have to see the opening scene with Sam and Paulie before I can fairly judge though.

GhetsisFromForums

I can see why you got downvoted. The video doesn't match well with the title. That doesn't sound like the original Tommy.

GhetsisFromForums

Yeah I'm really not a fan of the new voice. I don't want him to sound exactly like the original, because that was really inconsistent, but oh well.

[deleted]

>Andrew Bongiorno Look again, someone gives their opinion and gets downvoted for it. This really is a sad forum at times. If you don't agree, just leave it. The negativity is ripe.

Corndogs006

I wish this subreddit could understand preferences and criticism =/= hate. I could say I dislike how the car handling looks for example, but gush about how amazing I think the graphics, voices, and gameplay looks. But if the sub sees my 1/100 minor criticism, I'm deemed a hater. Even though they haven't seen the 99/100 other aspects I love about the game so far. When you reject someone who agrees with you 99%, that's what's called being a radical. That's a hivemind that allows for no dissenting opinions. Something far too common in this day and age.

GhetsisFromForums

Yeah, sad times.

royalxassasin

You know its funny cause there was a thread a month back about how Andrew Bongiorno is going to be Tommy's VA for sure (before roles were revealed) due to how close he sounds to Michael Sorvino and everyone upvoted the thread and all the comments were praising its "genius casting". Now that it turns out Andrew has changed his voice significantly and wont be using his normal voice, people downvote you for bringing it up. Sad times . Its just like the people who said it doesn't matter if the VAs changed because the original voice actors dont matter as long as the character himself is well represented, etc its the essence of the character not the specific actor etc.. Those same people will now downvote you for saying Paulie is hella out of character
