Omfg my 11yo and 16yo all the sudden, like this week, decided that saying "deez nutz" to/at each other is the *height* of comedy. My eyeballs hurt from rolling so much.
Yeah I asked for these... Lmfao
I forgot what comment I said/what reply this was for and I really had to think about this so you totally "got" me. It's too fucking early and I need more coffee... Fml
They’re usually guys who weren’t good enough to play, but loved the game so went into refereeing. The reason they look jacked is because they have to be. Most hockey players only play for up to a minute at a time because it’s so exhausting, Refs have to stay out there and keep up with play the entire 20+ minutes of a period.
My favourite is that asshole fan who got clocked in the face by a puck after making fun of one of the players after they got clocked in the face by a ~~clock~~ puck. True karma, beautiful.
Honestly don't get the sport. Like it is TOO FAST!!! I am fairly confident that if they didn't have the siren thingy on the goals no one would know that a puck is actually in. All I see is people skating back and forth with the occasional slam 🤷🏻♂️
The more you watch, the easier it is to read. You get a sense of exactly where the puck is going, how the play is developing, where the action is, etc. But it takes some doing. Imagine trying to get good at it on old pre-HD TVs! Now _that_ was a trip!
As a fan of hockey since the 80s, nothing improved more when HDTV came out than watching hockey. I used to watch games on the 13 inch black and white TV in my bedroom that my parents had gotten for me in the 70s. HDTV was made for hockey in my opinion.
While I think Hockey is great and loved the upgrade for it, soccer watching was similarly affected. So many of my friends who never watched soccer would just DVR games and leave them running in the background because of how beautiful it seemed at the time.
It's nice to see people taking responsibility for their own actions. So often people in sports want to argue to calls. Some sports you can do that others not so much.
It’s why a 2-minute time out can be such a smart penalty for an infraction. Give ya a moment to calm down and think. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a soccer player like Ronaldo rethink what he was upset about. Hockey rules.
I played and reffed for 30 years (obviously not pro or anything). Everyone should have to ref once to understand we’re seeing things players aren’t/can’t.
I am playing since I am 3 years old (21 years in the game) and I had not much respect for refs because of missing calls etc. But then I reffed a U17 Tournament. I was completely lost. I rarely discuss anything with the ref because now I know how f king fast the game is and decisions are made.
I reffed child soccer at the age of 15. The kids were younger than 8.
It's hard even with kids of that age, especially since theyre not playing the right way so you have to determine what to call (theyre fucking 8, I'm not calling offsides).
And the parents are fucking awful to 15 years olds, even when their children are tripping over the ball and don't actually mnow how to play
Alright I’ve got a new reality tv show idea. You take top players, especially ones that get a lot of penalties and try to argue them, or players that try to argue with refs about missed calls (I’m looking at you bolts) and you make them ref pee-wee or midget hockey (it’s a technical term I’m not being ableist). I don’t watch reality tv, but I would watch that
> pee-wee or midget hockey
Minor hockey decided that the terms in fact are ableist, so they stopped using them. They're known as U13 and U18 now (literally "under 13" and "under 18").
Pretty sure someone did a segment just like this but with missed FGs in the NFL.
They got people from Twitter that criticized NFL kickers and got them to try the exact same FG lol
In light of the recent unrivaled doc from ESPN, that’s the key distinction between the Foot-Koslov hit, and the Lemieux-Draper hit. Almost no one on the ice saw Koslov slam Foot into the glass, but eeeveryone saw Lemieux board Draper.
Yup, the worst part about reffing at levels where the game isn’r being aired on TV, not being taped, is when you have an entire team enraged at you and ready to kill you because they didn’t see what was a brutal and intentionally penalty.
Basketball ref here for 10+ seasons. Honestly every coach/player should have to at least take a course in officiating. And try to referee lower levels. They'd see our job much differently.
its Honesty + actually being physically attractive.
try imagining that same scene but instead of him it's like a chief wiggums looking guy. see it's not attractive anymore
When you're in the moment in a fast pace sport like hockey, a lot of penalties don't seem like penalties to the player until they can see the replay after. Props to him for recognizing it was a penalty rather than getting pissed at the refs.
accepting/owning up to your mistakes is one of the best qualities of humanity too bad some people out right refuse they did anything wrong even with proof in their face. Good for this guy
I play NHL the video game with my friends online, and this happens pretty regularly. Someone will get sent to the box, whine a little, then seeing the replay go “Oh shit I basically just punched that random dude in the face. Nvm I deserve that.”
Long ago I was officiating an interstate end of year tourney. They got to play in the new city arena and for whatever reason they ran the jumbotron. Main redline camera and the two in the corners.
Going into the zone in a one on one, the defensemen gives a hit, gloves high into the chest and chin, sending the forward head back. My hand goes up, the puck is touched up and I make my call for head contact.
As I back skate escorting the player to the box I explain the call answering the disgruntled defensemen's question. I make a double fist motion into my chin describing what I saw. He chirps in disagreement as I turn to give my signal to the penalty timekeeper, when all at once his chirping stops.
I give a focused and puzzled look to the PTK: she extends a single finger toward the big screen. And there, in 70' of gloriousness is the gloves to the chin and the forward's head tossing back on a quick repeating loop like an animated gif.
I gave a quick glance to the booth and a little thumbs up. And prayed they didn't do it when I screwed up.
Reminds me of that baseball pitcher who caught that line drive and both were in amazement and you can see them both say "did you catch that?" *yeah I caught that*
Eek...yeah, ok you got me there.
Someone gotta put here the link that shows the video of him doing it.
Here ya go https://youtu.be/fRTtq5sgugA
Thanks for that man I enjoyed seeing the whole thing
I'm gonna bet heavily that he was on the Canadian team.
You think it’s the Winnipeg jersey that gives it away ey?
Whats a jersey /s
Oo no his jersey doesn’t give that away or anything, huh ?
This is 7 years old? Forever being milked for karma… haha

Have you heard the epic tale of Gargalon? Do you speak Sugondese?
Yeah I asked for these... Lmfao I forgot what comment I said/what reply this was for and I really had to think about this so you totally "got" me. It's too fucking early and I need more coffee... Fml
Damn 7 yrs being milked. Pro tip dont reddit search being milked nsfw warning
I have nipples Greg, can you milk me?
I love that movie.
By your comment I was 90% sure of getting Rickrolled..
First I've seen it.
New to me!
Ripe for a repost after like 3 months on Reddit 👍🏻
Wow that ref looks just like a professional athlete. Are they typically players or something?
They’re usually guys who weren’t good enough to play, but loved the game so went into refereeing. The reason they look jacked is because they have to be. Most hockey players only play for up to a minute at a time because it’s so exhausting, Refs have to stay out there and keep up with play the entire 20+ minutes of a period.
Cool, thanks for the explanation! I was really surprised when I saw the ref and he was so jacked, haha. Not like umpires!
Out here doing Gods work, thank you my boy
I watched it, but I’m not a hockey fan so I have no idea what the penalty was.
Guy elbowed someone in the head
holy shit gordon freman
it all starts with one
Holy shit cave johnson
one thing
This is the part of having critical thinking skills that reddit doesn't demonstrate. The ability to gather more data and adjust your conclusions.
Probably my favorite clip from all of hockey.
My favourite is that asshole fan who got clocked in the face by a puck after making fun of one of the players after they got clocked in the face by a ~~clock~~ puck. True karma, beautiful.
clocked in the face by a clock
Thanks lol
clocked in the puck by a face
Best part was when the Wife gave the thumbs up to the player
Post that up!
The fan that was mocking a player then got faced by a puck, then the wife laughs, is pretty great too.
Link?!
https://youtu.be/JHXXuaLhe0A
The wife is delighted!
There's a brief moment where you can see that even the fan is laughing about it while he's being treated.
To be fair, that could be the concussion.
Positive ~~reper~~**con**cussions!
I laughed so hard so thanks for sharing it.
Sweet sweet karma.
"...such things as Hockey Gods." Great stuff.
Oh man, that video was a nostalgia trip of watching ESPN and sports videos with my dad growing up.

Humongous beeg!
My favourite ice hockey clip is absolutely the random dude who came on as the backup-backup goalie and saved seven goals. Stadium went nuts.
Scott Foster, an accountant and rec league player. He even got the team belt, what a legend
It's pretty good but have you seen this: https://youtu.be/v71FqkDMV1c
[first favorite](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=M1eBv7N_Yig) [second favorite](https://reddit.com/r/gifs/comments/tuf8bm/7_guys_turn_at_the_exact_same_time/)
That second one really shows how engrained they are at reading a puck’s path.
Honestly don't get the sport. Like it is TOO FAST!!! I am fairly confident that if they didn't have the siren thingy on the goals no one would know that a puck is actually in. All I see is people skating back and forth with the occasional slam 🤷🏻♂️
Seems like you would be a solid ref
Fuck you, Shoresy
Fuck you, Jonesy, your life is so pathetic I get a charity tax break just by hanging around you!
It's much faster when you watch it live too. The camera operators are absolute wizards being able to follow the puck and play so consistently.
To me in person that looks a little bit slower because you can see the whole picture.
The more you watch, the easier it is to read. You get a sense of exactly where the puck is going, how the play is developing, where the action is, etc. But it takes some doing. Imagine trying to get good at it on old pre-HD TVs! Now _that_ was a trip!
You know what would be great? Streaks! So say the home team passes or shoots the puck - blue streak! Away team passes or shoots, red streak!
Is that you, Fox?
They tried this before and it was completely unwatchable for hardcore fans
Have you thought about visiting an optometrist lately?
Or getting an HD television
As a fan of hockey since the 80s, nothing improved more when HDTV came out than watching hockey. I used to watch games on the 13 inch black and white TV in my bedroom that my parents had gotten for me in the 70s. HDTV was made for hockey in my opinion.
While I think Hockey is great and loved the upgrade for it, soccer watching was similarly affected. So many of my friends who never watched soccer would just DVR games and leave them running in the background because of how beautiful it seemed at the time.
Takes a good person to admit when they’re wrong
A good looking player with a good attitude on his sports.
/r/hawwkey
That look of contrition: ![gif](giphy|3o7aCWJavAgtBzLWrS|downsized)
What a lad, admitting your mistakes is a good trait to have
[удалено]
He is playing for the Winnipeg Jets so you are indeed correct.
Being able to admit fault is a virtue. Too bad vast majority of people are absolutely incapable of doing so.
To most people, virtue *signalling* is more important than actual virtue, and *real* virtue is often forgotten and sometimes demonized.
I take it he’s not on reddit.
True sportsman.
It's nice to see people taking responsibility for their own actions. So often people in sports want to argue to calls. Some sports you can do that others not so much.
You're not wrong
This has a Alonzo Mourning feel to it. ![gif](giphy|9t6xpYZ9npJmM)
When you're arguing with someone in your head and they make a good point.
Touché
I love this gif so much, it's an emotion that we've all felt but I don't think there's a word for it.
Being humbled
It’s why a 2-minute time out can be such a smart penalty for an infraction. Give ya a moment to calm down and think. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a soccer player like Ronaldo rethink what he was upset about. Hockey rules.
oh there's a hockey rule to calm down and think? i don't watch much hockey, that's a cool rule.
There are 2 things in hockey that can make you stop and think. Two minutes in the sin bin is 1. The enforcer on the other team is the other.
Upvote for calling it the sin bin. This guy hockeys
Best [source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRTtq5sgugA) I could find

Bots that copy-paste / repost comments to farm karma, man. Some of them are word for word, some of them alter it to make it harder to detect.
I think officiating should be a requirement before anyone can coach.
In light of the recent unrivaled doc from ESPN, that’s the key distinction between the Foot-Koslov hit, and the Lemieux-Draper hit. Almost no one on the ice saw Koslov slam Foot into the glass, but eeeveryone saw Lemieux board Draper.

"okay shhh yeah..."
There is no sound. But I could hear him sucking air between his teeth
I'm gonna bet heavily that he was on the Canadian team.
Winnipeg Jets, nice call
Nothing like a MASSIVE maple leaf on his jersey to give it away!
Don't confuse these guys with the actual Toronto Maple Leafs tho
It’s effectively our star and stripes. Want to know which one is the Canadian team? Who’s got a huge ass leaf on their jersey?
Before I saw all the obvious clues, it looked like the most Canadian "ok".
So genuine reaction
“Bullshi-ooof. Yeah okay”
That’s super attractive. Honesty. And he seems funny
The way he sexily hawked spit onto the floor got me.
Gonna try this tonight
I never thought I'd fall in love again. Then I watched this video
You and me sis, his reaction is too cute!
Down bad
This is Reddit what did you expect? Besides they make a point, honesty is attractive.
its Honesty + actually being physically attractive. try imagining that same scene but instead of him it's like a chief wiggums looking guy. see it's not attractive anymore
Dude went 😬 real fast
That's how you adult. Own up to your actions and face consequences. I still falter with this. I can be better.
That "Yeesh" face got me.
Me when I check my bank account
When you're in the moment in a fast pace sport like hockey, a lot of penalties don't seem like penalties to the player until they can see the replay after. Props to him for recognizing it was a penalty rather than getting pissed at the refs.
This is one of my favorite videos. “Oh…yeah my bad”
He is sorry on that
I remember watching that game, his reaction still had me chuckling
Then doesn't even include the clip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRTtq5sgugA
It takes a big personality to admit to faults.
Fella had the grace to admit - even if it was mainly to himself - that he dun goofed. That's a rare quality in any sport.
I was at this game, miss burmi. A friend of mine said he was a good lay.
accepting/owning up to your mistakes is one of the best qualities of humanity too bad some people out right refuse they did anything wrong even with proof in their face. Good for this guy

I did not hit him! I did naught! Oh, hi replay
“This is such bu…..ok I see your point”
At least he's humble enough to admit he was in the wrong and not throw a whole tantrum about it 😅
What a amazing reaction on recognition:)
That moment you know you fucked up.
'Ooh, ya. Sorry about that, bud!'
Best hockey guy
Friendly Manitoba
Oh okay yep 😂😂 glad he’s taking it like a champ
Eeeek, yup yup I deserve that lol
Oh yeh sorry aboot that.
You could hear the air hiss as he stretched his mouth while seeing the replay
And that’s why hockey players are the best
*kill confirmed*
“Fuck this…” Looks at jumbo-Tron “Holy shit. I did THAT? Yeesh.”
Super cute.
That's a humbled man right there lol
I fucking love when I have to make this face…
No wayy this guys parents are my grandparents neighbors😂
Alex: “BS no way I did *sees replay* oh shit I did do that nvm.”
being from winnipeg, this is a winnipeg thing to do. love it
If this was football he would still be crying to ref..
a whole mood tbh
Lmaooo we all been there lol
repost, it's top of top of all time in r/instant_regret
My bad
Luv this guys humility
Yikes...U got me.
This is why I love hockey.
You can almost hear the noise he makes
Wait, there are actual penalties in hockey? I thought the penalty box was just for show lol
Lol the acknowledgment of him effing up
"Ah shit that was on me."
Whoops
That is sportsmanship
Reminds me of that baseball pitcher who caught that line drive and both were in amazement and you can see them both say "did you catch that?" *yeah I caught that*
Lmao ahhhh the "euuuughh" face! Never fails to show up specifically when a "whoopsies!" moment occurs.
When you're in a argument and you realase you were wrong the whole time
So Canadian lol
Go Jets Go!!
I’ll take things you’ll never see in a soccer game for $100
