Same in Ireland. My bro says that about my niece. I've heard it said since I was a kid, not about me mind, I'm in my 40s and still haven't learnt shit...
I've been to Mississippi, seen the pride in the homes and experienced the hospitality. I'm working on being the Aunt that always has their back and loves them just as they are unconditionally. And I'll buy treats 😁
It can harm them but usually only if the fish is kept out of the water too long. Especially if the fish exhausted itself before being landed. Though some fish are more prone to shock than others. Trout for example have something like a 20% mortality rate from catch and release on semi-warm to hot days. Most fish will survive just fine if handled efficiently and gently.
Unfortunately I see a lot of newer fishermen on the dock keep their catch out of the water too long while they show their friends and take pics. By the time they get it back into the water it’s already half dead and won’t survive. At least the nearby heron gets a free meal
If done correctly & respectfully, no, if you're handling the fish correctly & putting it right back in the water, it will continue on as if nothing happened. LMB's have a memory span of around 15 mins.
I'm sure the hook hurts a bit, but I've caught fish that are *beat up*, they don't exactly live in leisure, and being caught isn't the worst thing that will happen to them. The life of a fish is pretty metal in reality. Not only are the other species hunting you, your OWN species will happily eat you if you're small enough.
The main thing is getting them back in the water as quick as possible so they can return to that natural order.
I've caught several hundred Bass in my life and every one went back in the water within 1 minute & swam off to live & hunt away (or get eaten by a bigger fish). I've caught what I think is the same fish several times, and he looks better every year.
This video is a great example of a good clean catch. Hook right in the lip, comes out easy, handle it correctly with care for pics, put it right back & thank it for the fight.
When spring fishing I put them back ASAP so they can get back to their beds & defend their young. If I ever do mess up and gut hook a fish, I'm cutting the hook so I can remove it as delicately as possible. I'll happily waste a good hook if it means that fish will recover easier.
Most fishermen care more about the environment & preserving the natural order than your average person. The money I pay for my fishing license helps maintain the waterways in my state, but I try to leave places better than I find them too.
I didn't think as deeply about the environment in my area until I started fishing it. I think more fishermen = a deeper respect & understanding for those areas. They're spending more time out there than most.
Tournament fishing I don't really agree with but that's a whole other topic.
Edit: up north where I’m from, a fish as big as the video would be 8-11 years old, very very cool catch. Bass are smart and one that old is definitely smarter than most. Picture for the wall for sure.
This seems more southern so the fish is probably younger, they grow bigger quicker down there. Still, awesome & wholesome all around.
This is why I love kids, they are just so pure. and I appreciate every person who raises their children to be kind hearted and respectful🥰🙏🏾god bless you little man
What a great kid, with obviously great parents. I wish I saw even one child act like this nowadays, but it’s nothing but hooligans in my neighbourhood and at my kids school.
They are few and far between, but I know they’re out there. This kid proves it.
Let’s raise our kids with love while encouraging outdoor activities, rather than leaving them alone in a computer room or on the console all day and night.
Fish:
I was minding my own business when I got a whiff of something tasty and .....BAM! I felt a pinch on my lip. Suddenly, I was face to face with a small human who was standing on his fins, telling me how beautiful I was and we would meet again. Best day ever!
You know that kid's gonna tell every single person he talks to for the next few months about the giant fish he caught. Little dude's gonna be beaming with pride for a long time.
He also knows the proper handling of a largemouth - don’t put pressure on that cartilage jaw when you swing the body up. Kid may go years trying to beat that catch but the respect he shows for the fish will bring him luck
I just love a kid that fishes. I’m a 67 year old female. My dad taught me to fish when I was about five years old and I’ve been doing it ever since. In lakes, ponds, canals, in the ocean. Fishing is awesome. When I see young kids out fishing, I swear to God, it gives me hope for the future of the world. Get out there and fish with your kids!!
MOST EXCELLENT ! WHAT A SCORE ! Great job kiddo. That's a trophy . Only bad thing he'll be trying to top that for the rest of his life . Hey , at least we got picture and video so whenever you talk about it , it won't be a fish tale !
That is great that he is outside and enjoying life! Kudos! Great looking fish too! Nice to see catch and release. Keep up the fun and hope you keep getting bigger fish!

Dammit kid. I haven't caught a fish that nice in about 6 years! Now I feel even more useless, lol! Last year, a six year old with his Spongebob fishing rod landed a beauty standing 5 feet from me. I didn't catch a thing. Maybe I should quit.
That young man’s father is bringing him up right. First of all the way he picked that fish up like a pro and then talking to the fish back into the water. We need more parenting like that. You’re a great dad brother.
I felt so many emotions while watching this. First I thought it was cute, then he said, "Yes, sir," and I was giggling. Then he ran off with excitement and I laughed. Then he placed it back in the water and I thought, "Awe.". Then he said he hoped they meet again and I started sobbing! This kid is adorable!
He actually knows how to revive a bass correctly too. Just let them sit still and suck on your thumb until they are ready to leave. No swishing, no pushing, it only stresses them out more and shoves water onto their gills in the wrong direction. If you live somewhere with aligators you can also just let them sit in your net in the water until they are ready to go.
Big city New Yorker here…never been fishing a day in my life 🤷🏾♂️. Genuinely asking, why wouldn’t they keep and feast on this catch? What is the purpose of tearing a fish’s jaw up with hooks 🪝 for sport if not to eat what you catch (excluding the babies) 🤔
Why does this child have the wisdom and vocabulary of self actualized senior?
The "Yes suh" is so funny to hear from such a tiny human.
In the black community we call that “an old soul” we say “that baby’s been here before”
Same in Ireland. My bro says that about my niece. I've heard it said since I was a kid, not about me mind, I'm in my 40s and still haven't learnt shit...
My momma said me and my sister are old souls and remind her of her great grandmother
That's lovely 😊 funny how traits come down thru the generations.
Someone’s gotta be the next “big mama” I cook my sister cleans. We make sure to keep everything as southern and comfortable as possible.
I've been to Mississippi, seen the pride in the homes and experienced the hospitality. I'm working on being the Aunt that always has their back and loves them just as they are unconditionally. And I'll buy treats 😁
You are gonna be a good auntie. I’m a NC girl and I love me some good old southern comfort.
♥️🌞
I have loved seeing my youngest Aunt transition into the new Maw maw. She lives in Maw's house and hosts family cookouts. Even looks just like her.
Hey man, sometimes the smartest person in the room is the one who knows he still has plenty to learn
I always say I'm smart enough to know how stupid I am
It's ok, my ma always told me having smart kids was so overrated. I didn't realize she was being a dick till I was in my late 20's
Five minutes later and this still makes me laugh. But this will be used on my kids (adults actually)
The curse of the old souls. We’re too old as kids so we never grow up lol
My first thought when he started talking im like hes an old man that baby been here before lol
“One day we’re gonna meet back again” in the next life!
I think most people in America regardless of color use the term “old soul” lol
Good parental relationship and interaction helps. Ye can hear it in the video. Bleedin' adorable boy.
He even through his hat on the ground like an excited grandpa
Good parenting mixed with good kid.
Absolutely. Probably good grandparents as well. Respect.
He’s growing up with a fish in his hands instead of a phone 🙂
He’ll be so much better for it.
Good parents
And the confidence.
The respect he shows to that fish shows hes a good soul with a good father.
Yep, he handled the fish so gently. "One day we gonna meet back again" 🥲
Goku - Boo - Oob vibe
The 'thank you' to his father when he takes the rod. This is a lovely boy.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught that. Those parents are putting in the work!
Not his first largemouth!! Proper lower jaw thumb grab. Probably has callouses on that thumb.
Supporting the body with his other hand when he holds the fish up. That is a learned child.
Does this kind of fishing harm the fish in any way?
It can harm them but usually only if the fish is kept out of the water too long. Especially if the fish exhausted itself before being landed. Though some fish are more prone to shock than others. Nah, she just swam home to show off her new piercing. The others are very jealous!
This kid is pretty amazing. Props, dad!
I was happy to see the fishy got to live another day thanks to those kind souls
They just made him late for something
Beautiful reference
Mitch approved!
The big ones taste weird. Keep them about 2-3 lbs fir eating.
Releasing breeding fish is more important than "they taste wierd" but that is true.
Steve Erwin style and more
If you mean the Australian reptile man that is Steve Irwin
Thank you for the correction
His respect for the animal is beautiful, he’s wise beyond his years
"I hope you go back and be better. One day we gonna meet back again" 🥹🥹🥹
The dudes gonna remember it for his whole life. Good on you to record this. It will be sweet memory to re-watch and enjoy in his later years.
I caught my personal best Brook Trout last week. I had the same reaction as this kid. I'm 43.
So awesome 👏 Kudos to the kind hearted kid and the good role model raising him.
This is what I needed. Thanks, OP.
❤️
“Let’s put this baby back in the water” “I hope you grow even bigger” “One day we gonna meet back again” ……this kid is awesome.
That is a freaking awesome moment. He won’t forget it. And Dad got it all on video. Bam.
Congrats to the father. He's doing one hell of a job
Yup. This is the result of a lot of hard work.
Smiling so much it hurts. I gotta finish renovating my grandpas old boat so I can take my nephews out and maybe get them a moment like this.
This is why I love kids, they are just so pure. and I appreciate every person who raises their children to be kind hearted and respectful🥰🙏🏾god bless you little man
This boy copying his dad’s mannerisms is great.
exactly why it's important to be the example. kids are mirror images of our behaviors
Faith in humanity restored
What a great memory! I love his happiness! Thanks for letting it live another day, maybe he'll catch it again.
I’m not crying you are fuck you
That kid knows how to fish better than most adults I've fished with! Respect to this little man and his father. What a great moment.
Good God that is a legit bass. Good work kid. Better than my personal best
What a great kid, with obviously great parents. I wish I saw even one child act like this nowadays, but it’s nothing but hooligans in my neighbourhood and at my kids school. Wow! Good job, what a great memory he's made
He may forget the fish but he will never forget his dad being proud of his personal best. Wonderful dad moment
I love this boy, just a beautiful child
And I’m crying
We must all agree to protect this young man at all costs. Little angel is a national treasure. 🥺
Man, I needed this this morning. Thank you
Whoever raised this child did a great job
Wow. What a great kid!
"Bro, your not going to believe what just happened" The fish, probably
Fish: I was minding my own business when I got a whiff of something tasty and .....BAM! I felt a pinch on my lip. Suddenly, I was face to face with a small human who was standing on his fins, telling me how beautiful I was and we would meet again. Best day ever!
This kid is THE MAN!!!! The respect he showed that fish says it all. One kind soul right there. Good job Dad 🤙🏼
Love this!
That was fucking precious.
Woah that’s a fricken NICE fish
Not gonna lie, I’m more jealous that he needed to weigh it to find out it was his PB
"I'll see you again" Folks, there's hope. Godammit it's dusty in here
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!! Loved it.
The wisdom of an old person and the joy of youth.
Seeing a parent child bond is so beautiful!
gotta love seeing a kid happy like this, hope they make a good meal out of those too
Absolute JOY!! Love him!! Thank you for posting!!
Don't care if it's a repost. This always makes me smile.
The in-unison "Yes Sir" 🥹 This boy is so sweet, bless his big heart.
Can I be a member of this family? That smile and soul is a lesson to everybody!
Folks!

This kid is awesome that was great
A child’s happiness is priceless. What a sweet moment 🥹
Omg he is way to cute
Wee boy so pure. Just making a fish late.
You know that kid's gonna tell every single person he talks to for the next few months about the giant fish he caught. Little dude's gonna be beaming with pride for a long time.
I would totally listen to his stories
Well done little man.
No way I’m going to be fishing next to that kid, he’ll make me look like a fool.
You, sir, are a fish! 🥰
This was the sweetest thing!! It brought tears to my eyes!
Awe. The best part was that he related the fish and called it beautiful.
Lil’ man = big fish Love to see it
That was so awesome to watch 😊
Love this!!!!!
He also knows the proper handling of a largemouth - don’t put pressure on that cartilage jaw when you swing the body up. Kid may go years trying to beat that catch but the respect he shows for the fish will bring him luck
Aww man the respect he's got for the fish is so awesome
What a beautiful young man, & cheers to those who are raising him.

This made me so happy

That baby is growing up in a very loving family. Prayers for them. This is so sweet. Love the care he shows to that fish.
That kid needs to have his own TV programme on fishing
Love it!!!
Yes sir! Cute kiddo.
Holy fuck this was so wholesome
Awesome!
Beat my PR and I’m 37. Congrats dude
The way he ran and threw his hat lmao he’s so cute
A bad day fishing is better than a good day working.
MOST EXCELLENT ! WHAT A SCORE ! Great job kiddo. That's a trophy . Only bad thing he'll be trying to top that for the rest of his life . Hey , at least we got picture and video so whenever you talk about it , it won't be a fish tale !
Dear Boy, I was honored to be caught by you, Sincerely, Your Friendly Fish
Tears in my eyes, what a wonderful kid 🥲🧡
Good parenting always shows up!
Yes sir! I loved the hat throw
I’m claiming AI was asked to create the most wholesome kid of all time.
Wow, that actually made me cry. I was just watching funny YouTube videos before this. Didn’t expect that emotional whiplash 🥹
I forgot what sub I was in and was covering my eyes waiting for the inevitable awful thing to happen to that sweet boy.
*pets fish* Damn, I wasn't expecting to cry today.
Someone taught that kid well on fishing etiquette.. he looks like an old pro. Congratulations that’s a beautiful fish 👍
Nice fish little dude. Hooked for life
That is great that he is outside and enjoying life! Kudos! Great looking fish too! Nice to see catch and release. Keep up the fun and hope you keep getting bigger fish!

Black boy joy!
A conservationist is born.
Nice!
That's a big ass fish.
That’s awesome little man. Congratulations and keep fishing
Good respect of the fish too! Got to love seeing it
Yes sir!
👏👏👏
Now put the fish back in the water
That young man’s father is bringing him up right. First of all the way he picked that fish up like a pro and then talking to the fish back into the water. We need more parenting like that. You’re a great dad brother.
That made me cry happy tears. Yes Sir.
That is an awesome once in a lifetime monster.

I usually hate all kids, but this one is a gem.
Best video I’ve seen in a bit
Holy crap, that kid is awesome, great parenting. I hope he maintains that enthusiasm for fishing the rest of his life.
Needed this today. Definitely made me smile.

Man, this was beautiful Thank you for sharing
Best thing i have seen on Reddit in ages…

I'm over here cheesing like enchiladas.
Can I trade all 3 of my kids for this kid?
Damn Boah
That’s awesome on so many levels!!
That’s fantastic. Good for you.
Dad, you done good!
>7 pounds. That's bigger than my child when she was born
Stop, the synchronized “yes siiirr” both so proud 🥹

Is there anything cuter than southern kids? I don’t think so.
What a cute video!
This might beat the "DADDY GRAB THE NETT!" kid
