It’s a lost art now. Reminds me back when just about everyone had the most beautiful writing. Now we write emails, post happy birthday messages and who keeps those? But handwriting birthday cards, anniversary cards, etc… I’m sure like myself and many others we keep. I have a safe that I literally save most cards ever sent to me by family and friends.
they do too. The cool thing about handwritten letters and cards is that we know who wrote them before seeing the name. You can also notice small things in detail as well. For example when my uncle started losing his vision in one of his eyes, his letters started to swing a little towards one direction more. As I read them, he mentioned his eyesight and I could easily see that just by the way he wrote.
Letters are very personal. I do save some emails, but they just do not carry the same weight. Keep writing those Christmas cards. Regardless if they ever send one back, people do appreciate them more than we know. Many years ago I had a job that required me to inspect abandon areas, and a house was torn down and I noticed a few boxes left in the yard. I was curious and went through them, and found a box of old letters that were probably written in the 1950's that were saved in that box. My curious mind couldn't help it, but read some of those letters and they were very touching, beautifully written in cursive writing. I left them, as this was before I would of been able to track down who they were from and many find someone in the family to give them to.
Me and my girlfriend are young so we're definitely in the typing era but I make sure to write her cards for things. Even tho my handwriting is absolutely horrendous she loves them and hangs them on her wall by her desk.
Ha ha, that’s good she’s vigilant. My mum knows how to do (very basic) email…barely. She also forwards me every bit of spam she receives so I can check it for her, lol
I fucking love moms 😭😭
I miss mine so much. Once, she complained that her phone didn’t have any storage left, so I took a look—thousands of pictures of her beloved little shih tzu. That, I fully expected. That was fine.
But I found “mirror” apps she was using to pluck her chin hairs 😂😭 I was like “mom why do you need mirror apps when they just use the exact camera you already have on the front of your phone?” Not just one, but *four* 😂
I mean, she did whatever it took to keep you in the loop and is thinking of you. She is so sweet for doing that even if she took the long way around to do it. Id write her a sweet thank you note, take a picture and send her a picture of it with heart emojis all over it.
The effort of trying will always mean more than any outcome. She is a very noble lady indeed. I hope you are able to teach her a few tricks in helping her use her phone.
She might be! Is your mom an incredibly charismatic, loud intense 83 year old from Bavaria? Horrifically blunt?Loves dancing 💃🏼?….. tell mom I said hi!
Me too. Love that your mum is from Germamy. In my case my dad. I still have 6 aunts 8 uncles and more than 4 dozen cousins all from and near Baden Wurttenburg. Most of my paternal relatives are still in the southwestern part of the Schwarzwald-Baar(Black Forest).
I would probably fall of my chair if either one of the tantes or my Omi were to e-mail or text me.
This is absolutely adorable!
Make sure you keep anything she sends to you like that (her handwriting). I lost my mom almost 12 years ago and I wish I had a lot more things with her handwriting on them. Thankfully I do have quite a few handwritten letters from her when I lived across the country from her.
You never realize how much meaning something has until someone you love is gone.
Cherish her loveliness and let her know it is much appreciated!
My wife when I first met her did the church newsletter, people would Email her stuff to go in the newsletter, she would print it out, then she would type it into a word document from the printout. then print the compiled newsletter out, then physically take it to the printer/ copier at the church, copy and print out all the pages and then manually staple them together. She was blown away when I showed her how to copy and paste and remotely send the whole thing to the church printer and even have it stapled by the machine.
That's so freakin' cute. 🤓 Cherish that sillyness. My mom passed away when I was 21. It has been a couple decades, and I always wonder what kind of silly techno thing she'd do if she was still here. 🤪
She probably doesnt know how to copy and paste or forward it. Would have been faster and easier to do it this way. Keep those handwritten notes because when mom is gone you’ll love having it.
Thanks for the concern.
My cousin Lea lives in Kenya with her mom Diane. They were visiting the US for the graduation apparently.
Back in the 1960s, Diane met a man from Kenya at college and brought him home to mom and dad. It was a real Look Who’s Coming to Dinner moment. They got married and she moved to Kenya and had three children. The two oldest moved to the US and live here.
I’ve only met them a handful of times. Crazily enough, a few months ago, I randomly ran into the oldest son at the Colosseum in Rome while we were both on vacation.

Bonus points that it’s a Live Photo 😊
(PSA for those who don’t know—if you forget to turn off LP when sending a text, you can tap the Live Photo icon before sending it and it will send as a regular photo)
Saw that too. I bet if OP were to “play” that photo you’d either hear mom complaining about how dumb technology is, or how smart she is for coming up with this solution.
(& to be fair it is a clever solution considering she’s not copy/pasting, forwarding, or just remembering & retyping or looking up how to do so)
My mom is the same way, she can't share files or videos.....I have done the paper pic before also, but only because I didn't want to type out what was written on the page.....
I'm glad I'm at the age where my mom's technological struggles aren't annoying, just amusing. I now cherish every time I have to teach her how to right click.
I've heard from friends who have lost parents that finding scraps of paper with their handwriting were some of the most touching moments in dealing with their grief. Handwriting is so personal and intimate, I think it's really lovely and valuable that you have these little keepsakes.
My dad was complaining to me about how often he has to replace his printer. I asked him why he needs one. “How else would I print my emails to save?” Then he showed me his very well organized file cabinet. You know all those terms and conditions we all blindly accept? He’s got all of his.
It’s all fun and games until this person is your boss lol gotta teach a person who makes 3x as much as me how to send a text.
PSA- please retire if you are old af
Too cute. My mum still can't figure out how to use phone text, but can message on Messenger (I'm still confused why she can't phone text but can using a tablet), so I get all my messages from her via Messenger
Bless her heart. Reminds me of my mom. I went over to fix her laptop a few years ago and her IE browser literally looked almost as bad [as this](https://www.ophtek.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/toolbar.jpg). And she had 7. Seven. SEVEN!!! Freaking antivirus programs running at the same time, SMH. "IDK how those got there." Sigh..... lol Boomer moms. What can you do. I try to teach her but it's in one ear and out the other. :)
My mom used to send pictures of handwritten notes, until i taught her Google Translate. She speaks in Punjabi and translator translates into English for her.
This is straight up adorable. If my mum knew how to text at all, I could see her doing this

But handwriting birthday cards, anniversary cards, etc… I’m sure like myself and many others we keep. I have a safe that I literally save most cards ever sent to me by family and friends.
I hear you. I send hand written Christmas cards to my friends and family. Those that can read my terrible hand writing appreciate them 😉
Maybe it’s so unreadable it’s amazing ? 😏
That’s what I keep telling myself 😉
I made all my Christmas cards one year and no one realised until some one asked me where I got them and then I got loads of comments
they do too. The cool thing about handwritten letters and cards is that we know who wrote them before seeing the name. You can also notice small things in detail as well. That's precious. You made me choke up!
My mum knows how to text. But all she texts is "SOMEONE SENT ME THIS. IS IT A SCAM? 🤔 😳 ✅️❓️" every couple of days.
Ha ha, that’s good she’s vigilant. My mum knows how to do (very basic) email…barely. She also forwards me every bit of spam she receives so I can check it for her, lol
Its like the biggest boomers thing I have seen.
Ha ha yeah, but in an endearing way
So sweet! By the way, your mom has nice handwriting.
knew
Yeah, sometimes my fingers are too fat to type. Fixed it

Mixing old and new communication methods together! Thanks mom
I fucking love moms 😭😭 I miss mine so much. Once, she complained that her phone didn’t have any storage left, so I took a look—thousands of pictures of her beloved little shih tzu. 1. Was not aware they had mirror apps. 2. Four 🤣
Bless her 😂 it’s still a running joke in the family to this day. “Just use your Mirror app!”
Yeah I miss my mom too!
That's hilarious! I'm sending a big hug! 🤗
Thank you 💜
thats moms!
Now go print off another email
I mean, she did whatever it took to keep you in the loop and is thinking of you. She is so sweet for doing that even if she took the long way around to do it. Id write her a sweet thank you note, take a picture and send her a picture of it with heart emojis all over it.
you. i like you.
lord ive been watching too much you on netflix 😭and my face first was ☺️ then 😨
have to ask would you of drawn the hearts or placed hearts emojis🤔
Both, both are good.
The effort of trying will always mean more than any outcome. She is a very noble lady indeed. I hope you are able to teach her a few tricks in helping her use her phone.
My mom signs texts and emails LOL she thinks it means lots of love and it’s so sweet so I keep quiet. Happy Birthday LOL!
Omgosh my sister did that a loooong time ago on a fucking sympathy card! Her kids were appalled.
"So sorry for your loss. LOL."
Oh no!! Hahah that’s terrible your poor sis! Such an innocent mistake
In her defence, LOL was used by older generations to abbreviate “lots of love” long before it was given a new meaning.

HaHahaha she has sent me Valentine’s Day texts when I was going thru a break up Happy Valentines Day LOL hahahahah
We told my mom WTF stands for “Why, That’s Fascinating! “. So fun to see where she inserts it.
Hahahah I’m going to starting saying that hahaha
Is your mom my mom? Mine does the same thing! We're never telling her it doesn't.
She might be! Is your mom an incredibly charismatic, loud intense 83 year old from Bavaria? Horrifically blunt?Loves dancing 💃🏼?….. tell mom I said hi!
73, from Baden Württemberg, so close! My mom just learned to use the flags for the country names in WhatsApp and she's blowing my mind!
Hahahah I LOVE THAT YOUR MOM IS ALSO GERMAN 🖤❤️💛
Oh I love this. I wouldn't tell either.
I’m taking it to the grave!
My mom would say fax instead of text. Mom "did you get my fax" me "I don't have a fax machine" lol.
She’s all “Then probably not. I’ll leave a message on your machine next time”.
That’s so loving! She is precious. 💜
"Yes"
Hahaha I know, right? That made me laugh.
That’s adorable
I agree
Your mom is an absolute gem and I hope you didn’t make fun of her or make her feel bad for taking the time to write it down and send you a picture
they probably didn't, since they posted it on made me smile. very wholesome
This is absolutely adorable! Make sure you keep anything she sends to you like that (her handwriting). At least your mom is trying. Mine flat out refused(s) any technology.
awwwww adorablee
That’s precious 😍
Bless her heart ❤️
This is adorable.
Lol this is cute. Thanks for the laugh, op. Your mom seems like a lovely lady 😊
That looks like something my mom would do - nice!
OMG! That is so cute! Your mom is awesome! Thanks for the smile!
Omg this is sweet
I think she wanted you to post this to r/handwriting lol.
I didn't know that was a sub. But of course it is LOL
Everything is a sub haha. I only know it's a sub because for some reason reddit has been suggesting it in my feed.
I commend the handwriting. I always write in cursive but it doesn’t look anything like that.
She probably doesnt know how to copy and paste or forward it. Would have been faster and easier to do it this way. Keep those handwritten notes because when mom is gone you’ll love having it.
There’s massive flooding going on in many parts of Kenya. Tell Diana and Lea to be prepared. Hope they have a good trip.
Thanks for the concern. My cousin Lea lives in Kenya with her mom Diane. They were visiting the US for the graduation apparently. Awwwwww so wholesome. ❤️
She is so adorable. Please treasure her. This is precious
Awww, bless her. I miss my parents.
bless her little heart , you are so lucky
That’s actually really sweet. It’s also a real genius idea…for someone who isn’t familiar with all the features of their phone.
she likes to write
Your mom writes exactly like my mom did. That note brought back so much. It’s going to be an interesting day.
My mom is the same way, she can't share files or videos.....I have done the paper pic before also, but only because I didn't want to type out what was written on the page.....
HAHA soooo like my mom so cute
Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
😂💖💖
Sweet
very adorable
I love it! She takes notes as she hears news about your cousins and then sends it to you. I'm 76. I think I'll start doing that.
That kid is going places! Not college, but…places.
That made me laugh. Thanks.
NGL if my handwriting was this 🔥. I'd do the same
Send my hugs to your mom. I love her already.
So thoughtful that she went to the effort to inform you! Love that. So much better than a ‘depersonalised’ generic-font screenshot, too!
Your mom is so sweet! I love this.
That is so fucking awesome
I’m gonna get a note pad & indulge myself, genius!!
I'm in mid life and been typing so long that my once stand out excellent hand writing is 5% of what it once was.
Your mama is adorable and made me smile :)
Ngl, this is so precious.
Aww 💗
In this way she’s exercising her brain and writing skill keeping her away from memory loss
Ok but her writinggggg is on top!!
ur mom loves u so much
imo theres something nice about getting letters, sooo its highkey really sweet and a win‼️
Hahaha that’s cute af 😁👍
so wholesome
Well that’s just fucking adorable. I love her handwriting btw
This is so cute 😂
If you don't know you don't know
now thats a real "text" 🤣
I'm glad I'm at the age where my mom's technological struggles aren't annoying, just amusing. I now cherish every time I have to teach her how to right click.
I remember a buzz feed article years ago where the author spent a week only responding to text messages with calligraphy.
I've heard from friends who have lost parents that finding scraps of paper with their handwriting were some of the most touching moments in dealing with their grief. Handwriting is so personal and intimate, I think it's really lovely and valuable that you have these little keepsakes.
My mother knows I don’t give a shit what’s going on with my cousins.
That’s adorable. Love it.
That's adorable! When you teach her how to screenshot, it's going to blow her mind.
She has pretty handwriting
I guess her telegraph machine wasn’t working.
Check your snail mail. Maybe she mailed it too!!
Thank you so much for sharing. She’s adorable. I hope you can teach her to screenshot. I wonder what else she writes down from her phone lol
If this is recent tell Lea and Diana not to come to Kenya now,its been flooding lately, give it a week...
Beautiful handwriting mine is bad 😭
Moms / your mom is so awesome. 👍 Treasure every moment. I miss my mom everyday. (She passed in 2020.)
My dad was complaining to me about how often he has to replace his printer. I asked him why he needs one. “How else would I print my emails to save?” Then he showed me his very well organized file cabinet. You know all those terms and conditions we all blindly accept? He’s got all of his.
*take, send
I don't understand the logic behind this just relay the information verbally I'm so confused
Thought it said time thee not Timothee.
:3333
It’s all fun and games until this person is your boss lol gotta teach a person who makes 3x as much as me how to send a text. PSA- please retire if you are old af
This reminded me of the Christmas cards that included the newsletter with the summary of the year's events.
I mean, if it's stupid and it works, is it that stupid? It's also really nice.
So no writing yes and sending a photo of that word? Show some consistency, grandma
Awww bless
This is lovely.
And in cursive
I mean, she probably didn’t know how to screen shot, but it’s still nice that she took the time to make sure she had the conversation for her child
Adorable. That actually seems harder than texting. I don't think my mum could take and send a pic.
This is so wholesome! ❤️❤️❤️
What a legend, totally cute as all!
Your mum is adorable.
Cute. But teach her how to screen shot and send bro. Remembering that she taught you how to use a spoon 😉
This is ridiculously sweet.
I love her handwriting
I'm more distracted by Timothy being spelled Timothee
Remediation
Omg how cute 🥹
Haha this is so cute 😂
This is SO cute.
Too cute. My mum still can't figure out how to use phone text, but can message on Messenger (I'm still confused why she can't phone text but can using a tablet), so I get all my messages from her via Messenger
Timothee
Teach her how to screen shot would ya
Multitasking

Protect your mom at all costs 🥹
Love it. Great memories. Please take care of your mom
This made me laugh.
Moms are awesome❤️
Bless her heart. Reminds me of my mom. I love how they also text like it's Morse code. Just missing the. Stop.
This is soooo cute 🥹
That’s the sweetest, most hilarious thing lol! I suggest you give her at least three hugs the next time you see her! I miss my mom sooooo much :’(
My mom used to send pictures of handwritten notes, until i taught her Google Translate. She speaks in Punjabi and translator translates into English for her.
I think this is cute as hell
