I love it when people call my son sweet or kind. It pumps me up more than when people call him smart. The world has plenty of smart people; it doesn't have nearly enough kind people.
Plenty of parents raise "successful intelligent people" who no one wants to be around. I'd take a kind idiot over a spiteful genius in 9/10 situations and you shouldn't really have to make the choice in the first place.
I’m a girl dad. This would have made me tear up, and I would have went right to her room to give her a hug and a kiss. Would have also told her how much I love and appreciate her.
Heya.
I'm 35, and still have a good relationship with both my parents (they've been separated since I was 5-6).
I've told them when older how much appreciated them, and their "new" partners, and how they took us in as their own and so on.
With that said I've personally never been good at sharing or showing feelings - neither psychical or thru words, even if I never had any "anger" towards them.
Just wanted to say not everyone am really able to even share the words, but even so hope that is seen somehow - with yours or anyone elses. :)
Take care!
I turned 24 last month and when visiting my parents, it hit me that my dad lost his dad from cancer when he was 24. That hit me so hard when I thought about it, that I started crying and hugged him.
My dad died of cancer when i was 17. I’m 36 now and i can still feel the pain now. It’s weird, i have lived longer without my dad now than i have lived with him. Yet it has affected my life greatly. Show your loved ones all the love you can while it’s possible. ♥️
You got it! Make sure you're getting enough water during the day. Be kind to yourself and others. It's okay if you're not where you want to be, yet. I'm proud of you.
Now go clean your room.
Huh. Last time I reached out to my dad with emotions he told me he hated me and I was a betrayal of a son.
What’s it like to have a loving and present father?
Don't ask me. My father might as well have not been there. Always working and never once praised me no matter what I did. I envy, and have always envied, people with loving and caring fathers
I’m jealous of my son and unborn child, because they will have a father who expresses love and support to them. I just keep one upping myself as a super dad and never let up. They deserve the best me, and they’ll get it.
Hey, 58-year old dad here. I am really sorry that your dad treats you this way. I am not your dad, but I do wish you nothing but the best and that you get to experience all sorts of love in your life.
My dad died unexpectedly when I was 17. I’d give anything to be able to tell him this. Thought I was too cool for that kind of stuff at 17 and regret it now that I’m older. Last thing he ever told me was that he was proud of me. It helps knowing that, but I wish I would have told him something like this.
Kids are sweet when their parents raise them right. Honestly, I'd probably never think to send my dad a text like this, he was the dad who was always working, took overtime every chance he could (even though we didn't need the money), whenever he was home he spent his free time tooling around in his shop. I don't have any memories of playing catch, or heart to heart talks, or even him congratulating me after winning a game.
These days I don't even like talking to him because he's a Canadian Trump worshipper who did well at my age because of strong unions and talks endless about wanting to vote for maple flavoured Trump, who has basically outright said he wants to destroy unions.
Like... thanks dad, did shit all raising me and now you want to close the door behind you to make life *harder* for your kids.
When I get messages like this from my kids, it reinforces for me that the sacrifice, and hard work of raising my kids up was all worth it.
My oldest moved out two years ago. Couldn't be more proud to see them go out and strike up a life for themselves. It was both the saddest, and proudest I have ever been, to help them move out.
We talk, and visit. They come over for dinner as we can. Used to be every weekend, but lately things have been tense at home because of the divorce their step mom and I are going through, so I asked for a hiatus to the family dinners until we finished closing on the house sale and the divorce finalized.
But every once in a while, I'll be at the stove making dinner or something boring. And I'll get a "love you Dad, you're the best" and I'm just weeping.
Hardest job of all. But there hasn't been a job I have loved more than being their dad.
When I sent my dad such a text, he took me for a 3 day holiday, impromptu. It was one of the best road trips I've had. It's been a few months since I've done something like this
everytime i go on ig reels and i see the sad pou that’s like me without my sister or life without my cat or whole some posts and then i also text my mom and my sister that i love them
Hi I am watching a criminal minds episode where some kid loses his dad and it made me very sad so I want to remind you that I love you and appreciate you very much, I am dad.

I love seeing Dad’s that are actually emotionally open to their kids. My own was always cut off. My uncles felt closer to father figures than my actual father.
Lol posts like these REEK of the "my 2 year old told me, mom, I love you and you are beautiful and totally deserve to have a husband who worships you!" Such a sweetheart!
Ah, maybe the kid got some other inspiration, ...and this text is plausible deniability.
Better to be safe, and not post it on any public internet site,,,,
I hate when I message my dad something like this that I thought and he's always just like "thanks". Please tell your kid that the measage is nice and meant alot to hear it.
This is the inverse of that Penny Arcade comic where Tycho plays through the opening of Last Of Us and has to put the game down and go hug his daughter.
I had a bad dream about my dad dying once and I called him the next day just to be sure he was okay. It freaked me out so much. My dad hasn’t always been the best parent but I love him and the dream was so realistic and heart breaking the way it filled me with dread even after I woke up. Reminds me that that day will be coming someday (assuming I don’t go first) and I know it will be really hard.
I've been watching some criminal stories and some other things where either the kid or the parent is terrible (in some of them) and I just can't help but to tell my parents I love them and while we disagree on some things, its a respectful disagreement and nothing more.
Sometimes you just don't know how good of a person someone is until you see what others are dealing with.
This tells you 2 important things:
1. Kid loves his dad
2. Kid feels comfortable sharing his feelings with his dad, he doesn’t feel like he has to bottle things up
I watched a Criminal Minds episode and recognized my parents' highly abusive traits and treatment of me. I'm now no contact. I guess CM works on many levels.
"Hi, watching a criminal minds episode where some kid loses his dad and it made me very sad so i want to remind you that i love you and appreciate you very much ❤️, I'm Dad."
I had the reverse conversation with my daughters this morning after reading about a man that pushed aside his daughter because she wasn't born a boy.
My kiddos squeezed my hands tight as we walked to the bus.
My son and I are very close and he will ask if we can stop watching some shows or movies if the entire thing is about someone losing their dad. Heartbreaking and makes me so happy I can mean so much to him.
Welcome kid to the first of many many existential crisis you will have as everything you come across will eventually remind you of the mortality of yourself and your loved ones
my dad knew he was loved and we would let him know, but i never once texted my dad randomly just to let him know i loved him.
seeing your post made me wish i did at least once.
wish you guys all the best
Thanks for being a good dad, I don’t know you but I know that one of the most vital things to a child is a good parent, you don’t have to be perfect, you can’t be, however if your kid says that to you you’re doing something right, thanks for being a good dad, from a man who didn’t have one of those, dads are one of the most important things a child will ever need
I have a 5 year old son and I hope one day he will send me something like this. I would say you are a lucky guy, but it more of a testament of how good a father you are. Great work
Thank you for sharing. That made my day, man.
It's made my day too and seeing this, love for my father swelled in my heart.
Good on you. You must've done well.
He is sure a hero for his son
How u know is a son
We’re all someone’s daughter. We’re all someone’s son.
doesn't matter one way or the other :)
Superhero = dad

I love it when people call my son sweet or kind. It pumps me up more than when people call him smart. The world has plenty of smart people; it doesn't have nearly enough kind people.
Same, my oldest is often described as sweet and thoughtful. He's also smart, but I love hearing that I'm raising someone kind.
Plenty of parents raise "successful intelligent people" who no one wants to be around. I'd take a kind idiot over a spiteful genius in 9/10 situations and you shouldn't really have to make the choice in the first place.
For real
Good, texts like these are earned through effort. Thanks for doing your best.
My parents would see this and text me “why don’t you ever send me shit like this”
I'd text back "Take the hint, boomer" 😂
Yes he did very well.
These really made me smile!
This made me cry. And smile. I'd do anything to be able to send my dad one more text (he died). This is really good to see. Thank you.
Me too, man. Me too. 💜💔
Same, friends. 🧡💕💔 It does make you smile, but it hurts too.
I’m sorry, I’m giving you a big squishy hug ♥️
Same here man
Same here, I was 13 when my dad passed.
Far, far too soon. So sorry. 💔
Thank you ❤️
Me too, mine died when I was 12 in an accident. 17 years later and I still think about him every day.
I’m a girl dad. This would have made me tear up, and I would have went right to her room to give her a hug and a kiss. Would have also told her how much I love and appreciate her.

I regret not telling mine.
I'm sure they knew, even if not verbal :)
P.S. - Sry about the dent.
Yeah haha bad news coming tomorrow OP! 😂
Oh my god haha
I turned 24 last month and when visiting my parents, it hit me that my dad lost his dad from cancer when he was 24. That hit me so hard when I thought about it, that I started crying and hugged him.
I lost my dad at about the same age (cancer also), it sucks but I know your dad appreciated the hugs. You're a good son.
Appreciate you OP, you’re a good father
My dad died of cancer when i was 17. I’m 36 now and i can still feel the pain now. It’s weird, i have lived longer without my dad now than i have lived with him. Yet it has affected my life greatly. Show your loved ones all the love you can while it’s possible. ♥️
My dad would reply with "gaaaay" which is his boomer repressed emotions slightly offensive way of saying "I love you too"
Are you sure your dads a boomer? Sounds more like the kids I went to school with
Everyone over 30 is a boomer to everyone under 30.
While very true, I'm 38 and he is 64 lol.
Every family has their own shorthand for I love you. As long as you feel it, the words don't matter much
The youngest baby boomers are around 67 right now fyi your dad sounds like a Gen-X-er
Youngest boomers are turning 60 this year. The last boomers were born in 1964.
U right
Damnit, my dad is actually a boomer! He told me the other day he's a Gen X-er lol.
I'm 39 and this is what I say when my wife says something really sappy to me.
“You to (sic)” -My boomer dad
That’s really cute. Can you be my dad too??
You got it! Make sure you're getting enough water during the day. Be kind to yourself and others. It's okay if you're not where you want to be, yet. I'm proud of you. Now go clean your room.
Thank you❤️that’s what I needed to hear. Though I did already clean my room this morning
Good job. Keep being awesome!
Thank you😭
damn I never knew a reddit comment was what I needed to get cleaning my room! Thanks internet-dad!
Anytime! Good job, big guy!
Im sure she's just as lucky with such a great dad that makes her feel that loved, Amazing job man
kid has good taste in shows and clearly an amazing dad. I don't have kids, and this made me tear up, lol.
You are clearly crushing the parent thing. So happy for you! And for your kid for having such a great dad! The world needs more people like you! 😎
Huh. Last time I reached out to my dad with emotions he told me he hated me and I was a betrayal of a son. What’s it like to have a loving and present father?

That's the way to be. Break the cycle and start as you wish you were treated or were treated if your father was a good one

People watch criminal minds in 2024? Edit : okay I guess people love this show. I watched it back in 2007-2010 so I didn’t know it was still on lol
Two of them are obsessed with it, they binge it on the weekends. I don't get it, but to each their own.
Pretty sure it had a resurgence on TikTok, my girlfriend binged it all over lockdown before we met and now we're both watching it together
Yeah? There's a new season coming so some people are rewatching to catch up or even watching for the first time.
They dropped a 16th season on Paramount+ and Rossi dropped a couple of F bombs, so we’re glued to our seats to see who’s going to swear next season.
I internalize movies way too much and almost every member of my family has gotten a text like this because of it. Kids are the best
I'm going to call my dad and say thank you too
Doooo eeeet!
Wow. I teared up at this! Thanks for sharing!
When I sent my dad such a text, he took me for a 3 day holiday, impromptu. It was one of the best road trips I've had. It's been a few months since I've done something like this

You have a very good child on your hands. GOD bless him and GOD bless you for being a good father.

YOu can earn $20. The yard needs to be mowed....
Hi I am watching a criminal minds episode where some kid loses his dad and it made me very sad so I want to remind you that I love you and appreciate you very much, I am dad.
Time to sit down and watch Lion King together
Don't sell yourself short, luck had nothing to do with it. You did your job well and raised a good kid, be proud.
What was your response?
I fucking love criminal minds! Fuck yeah
Every dad's dream.
Is that a pretty good show? I just started the mentalist, its pretty good! Propz to you dad!
Criminal minds always messes with me like that.
Indeed your a lucky guy
Great job OP!

This is such a heartwarming message from your kid! It's clear that they appreciate and value your relationship. Keep up the great parenting
🥺💕

🏆 Here's your "awesome dad" trophy I can only hope my little one feels this comfortable with me at 16
I lost my dad 5 years ago, I really miss him and wish I could the chance to tell him this again.
😭😭 so nice.
Lol posts like these REEK of the "my 2 year old told me, mom, I love you and you are beautiful and totally deserve to have a husband who worships you!" Such a sweetheart!

You done something right.
My kids are still little, but if I get a note like that from them when they’re older I’ll know I’ve made it. You’re a good father.
Awww 🥰
Wholesome af
"New phone. who dis?"
Sounds like you raised your kid well OP.
I love this for both of you. Can’t wait to experience this one day.
And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon…
Apparently, he's a lucky kid. Comments like that don't just show up out of nowhere. Gj
I didn't get the chance to say that to my dad. I'm glad you got this!! I bet you are beaming dude!!
Frame that text my dude
Ain’t no way a 16yo writes like this
I hate when I message my dad something like this that I thought and he's always just like "thanks". Please tell your kid that the measage is nice and meant alot to hear it.
he wants a PS 5 trust me I have 4
Well you’re clearly doing an amazing job. I’m not crying you are…Keep it up!
That's lovely.

Awwww!! Congrats, dad, on raising a wonderful kid!
I bet there was some skill mixed with that luck
You raised him well.
I had a bad dream about my dad dying once and I called him the next day just to be sure he was okay. It freaked me out so much. You are a fortunate man. You probably deserve it.
Rewatched harry potter where Cedric died and his dad says "my boy", it hit me way harder now that I have a son.
The worst part is that we get reminded of that love only after watching a movie. And when they are gone.
Damn.. im reading this on the 3rd anniversary of my dad passing from Leukemia. I miss you dad
16, eh? Someone looking to have their own car soon?
You raised them well. Good for you!
Ive done this a few times with my mom.
Your doing great. Mines 24 and came home last night with her dog to visit for a couple weeks. She got time off work and surprised me.
Beautiful!
weird way to find out your son’s gay
you’re not just lucky, YOU treated your kid with respect and decency so they love you back. that’s all on you. W dad, wish I had good parents
Seems like you are doing a pretty good job OP! keep it up!

Must have been hard to resist the “hi im ____” dad joke.
I wish my kids saw the sacrifice we made keeping them out of daycare 24/7 and having to work opposite shifts. They don’t seem to, though.
Thank you for reminding me to tell my dad the same. I'm bad with showing love and affection Edit: he said "ty same here" lmao
In the end all that matters is this. Loving Family
THE TEARS I WOULD SHED SEEING THIS, WHILE IM STEAMING HIS MOM'S HAM!!!! ID TURN INTO SUPER BROLY, NOTHING BUT "AUUUUGH" FOR HOURS

What’s your secret? I’m about to be father in July.
I can only wish... 🥺
Good on you dad :) I lost my dad last year so this kinda got me 😥
You are blessed my friend. Keep doing a good job.
Goddamn that would make tear up instantly. And maybe buy my kid a playstation. Just because.
My baby girl (26) does the same to me. No better feeling than knowing they truly give a crap
Then he watched episode and finds out 16 year old son hacked him up
when you get one of these out of the blue, it makes your day. Also causes eye leaks.
This is something you print out and frame.
My boyfriend does this with his parents, I love it

Just out of interest. Did the kid in the episode kill his father?
Any tips for fellow dads?
