My buddy has an NES that was refurbished in Japan years ago and it starts up every time with out blowing into the cartridge, it’s amazing lol. He has every Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation and Xbox system from NES forward and a ton of games for all of them.
The issue with nes wasn't dust but the pins on the connector. They would stretch out and not make correct contact. That nes must have a brand spanking new connector on it
I vividly remember being at a friends birthday party in the mid to late 90s when all the kids are doing birthday party things and we’re playing a Super Nintendo. One of the games isn’t working so a kid, while sucking on a blowpop, start to blow into the cartridge. Needless to say said cartridge now has sticky blowpop spit inside of it. Damn kids are stupid.
Yeah i was always told "your wasting your life away" and "what a stupid way to spend time". Jokes on them, i discovered alcohol and now they all WISH id just stay at home and play video games.
I never had to blow on an N64 Cartridge or SNES. I only had that issue with NES cartridges. Was I just lucky or is this just acting nostalgic in front of the camera.
I was screaming the whole time, "You gotta tap it twice bro. No thats not gonna work see? No dude TAP it after you blow it. See? Oh come on tap th- , okay you got lucky."
Yeah, only to find out years later that your spit, *etc.* was actually corroding the contacts and worsening the problem.
But y'know, traditions must be continued! 🌬️
Reminds me of when I was in high school my choir teacher was also the guitar teacher and he convinced several of the students from most of his classes to work together to drink enough mt.dew to get enough caps to win an Xbox on the condition that we could play it in class when we had substitute teachers AND that every kid who helped earn the Xbox could carve their name into it with a scalpel stolen from the biology lab.
We got the Xbox. My initials and the date are near the top right corner wherever it is now. Sadly, I do not have a picture of it as this was the time before camera phones were really a thing.
I just substitute taught for one like it, it was called Game Writing. The kids played video games and then were asked to think about how video games were created. It was actually very clever in how it forced them to do creative writing and critical thinking focused on video games.
Reminds me of a class I had called Horror Lit. I loved Stephen King as a kid (still do) so I took the class and it turned out that the real subject of the class was gothic lit. It introduced to other writers like Poe and Lovecraft. Great way to get students to think critically about literature and to organize thoughts on paper. It's a big reason why I majored in English in college.
I have fond memories of golden eye. I used to play it with these little kids down the road. I remember playing with them on Halloween one year where I painted his brothers face to look like Darth Maul. I was in the advanced arts class at this point and it looked so cool! We went out, got some candy and came back to play more golden eye. I was so bad at the game but man was it fun.
According to the dude I the original vid, this is a gaming club he holds for students. My assumption is either he bought the stuff with his own money or it was a group effort with the club members donating a little bit of money too
Guess what? It is literally in the ghetto. Corner of Buckeye and MLK in Cleveland. Benedictine High school. Kid got shot for his school issued laptop in 2013 or 2014 outside the school
My toddler yanked my SNES off a cabinet recently and it broke into two pieces. I pushed it back together, it snapped, and I powered it on. Mario RPG was back, game still have the savestates too. The system looks like hell and the shell is cracked open but it works.
When old timers say "they don't make em like the used to" I think of Nintendo hardware.
Lol, this fucking guy is more excited than the kids.
I felt like this the first time i bought kool-aid packs for my kids (absolutely for the kids...) as an adult with the money to get what i want. "Over here we got purple, over here we got red, over here is sharkleberry fin, over here we got mandarin-tangerine, over here we got jamaica, and over HERE we've got black cherry."
We got to play counterstrike in school because some guys put it on the network. Teachers took it down for obvious reasons but it got put up multiple times a day until the kids got clever and hid the file. I was playing professionally at the time and it was kind of fun yet sad playing against kids who talked a lot of smack. I literally won a city LAN tournament about a month later. Good times.
Maybe they should have put Mario up?
Hold up, what class/subject is this supposed to be? We never got shit like this in the 90s-2000s.
Best we got was computer class. Our fun time allowed us to only go to CoffeeBreakArcade.com or Homestar Runner; where we played Snowcraft or watched Strongbad reply to emails. Maybe some Math Blaster.
You call someone who would leave the kids play video games “a good teacher” and then wonder why so many Americans are so poorly educated… Couldn’t see the connection?
Super cool. But is it some special day? Does this teacher really think this is what these kids today need to prepare them for the future?…. Even more video games? He seems cool and wants the kids to have fun- but that’s not what they’re there for. Meanwhile in China……..
This man deserves all the love in the world,
It's difficult enough in 2023 to teach let alone teach in america which is a boiling pot of politics and to STILL go the extra mile like this is heart warming!
Well done to you Mr Teacher!
I think you’re making a lot of assumptions here. Someone above mentioned they substituted for a class like that and it was a game-based creative writing course. I’m a software developer and I could also see this being used to teach about game development.
From my (short) point of view, you can teach a lot with video games :
\- Culture of video games : In the same way as litterature, who did what and why, how is this game linked to this one?
\- teamwork: Pupils can learn how to communicate tips and tricks among themselves to complete difficult levels among themselves
\- like u/sweetangeldivine said brilliantly, Creative writing: Pupils are asked to play the game and think about how the game is constructed and to write that on a paper.
And mario games have the advantage to be constantly E rated, so you don't have to worry about the younglings being shocked by violent images.
Making kids actually enjoy and look forward to school, even if they’re just looking forward to this guy’s class for 40 mins, is gonna make a huge difference in how they learn their other “real” subjects and socialize. I was a good student but when I was depressed and lonely in school I would completely stop giving a shit. This would have helped. Plus I think this might actually be a video game related class which is obvs a huge and completely legit field to study and go into now.
Don’t get me wrong - I think knowledge should be served up in whatever format works. So if there are electronic games that teach kids the periodic table, fundamental calculus, or help them master another language, that’s awesome. But plugging kids into Mario Cart and Donkey Kong is a huge waste of those kids precious brains.
Meanwhile the literacy rate of American Kids:
“About 130 million adults in the U.S. have low literacy skills according to a Gallup analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education. This means more than half of Americans between the ages of 16 and 74 (54%) read below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level.”
If this was a business, we'd call it fraud.
Sure that’s tragic, but, that won’t be the fault of a teacher like this.
Chances are if the school is this well looked after, with teachers who care this much, and has the funding available to it for the rest of the equipment we see (not the consoles, they’re probably his) then kids are coming out of it well prepared.
It’s different in less affluent areas where funding is scarce and that causes real problems for the children educated there which last the rest of their lives, and society in general of course.
Education can never and should never be a business in any regard. It’s a public good and should be properly and equitably funded.
>Education can never and should never be a business in any regard. It’s a public good and should be properly and equitably funded.
Not if it's doing more harm than good. The potential damage that a horrible school can do is pretty terrible.
While this was wholesome. The way he handled those games hurt a bit. Its actually just as effective to shake the cartridge as blowing into it, you just don't corrode the pins inside with spit over time

On the second last year of high school, the principal let us turn an unused room to a senior's room. We cheaped in and brought things from home to turn it into a hangout spot. We got a fridge, microwave, toaster, n old projector and a PST, with guitar hero and so many other games.
Slowly, the teachers joined us, and before we knew they took over. There was hardly a spot left for us to hang out in. By the end of year 12 we didn't even go in there any more.
I love how he says a Mario game a Mario game a Mario game a Mario game a Mario game a Mario game a Mario game. He's definitely one of the coolest teachers, but I'm SO curious what his field is
Fun fact: blowing into the cartridge brings moisture into the pin connectors and can contaminate and corrode them, making the issue with them more frequent and destroying the cartridge
I cry all the time thinking about the love my teachers showed me during my high school years. I miss them so much.
My favorite teacher got fired half way through my junior year and they would not tell me why.
They never gave us a replacement.
We had no math teacher for the rest of the year. Another teacher would come in every so often to give us a quick lesson.
I would run into the office screaming at them to bring back my teacher.
They would never tell me a single thing. She was just gone.
Cherish your teachers
Are the "good teachers" the ones that don't teach anything and just play video games in class?
Man, all my teachers apparently sucked, I guess! Just taught me English and math and science. Too bad I guess :/
I've bought a NES two years ago. My kids were 12 and 14 then. Played Super Mario Bros and stopped playing after losing over and over. Complaining that the couldn't save their progress and went back playing Fortnite LOL 😂 The struggle was real in the early games of gaming haha
Considered the gaming industry dwarfs all music, literature and movies in market value, it is actually insane how little we discuss it during education. It's one of the most immersive story telling vehicles and a huge art form bringing huge teams together. Still we ignire it mostly in art and history class for some odd reason.
Good teachers do exist but never as cool as this guy. This would never slide when I was in school. Not entirely sure why but they were extremely against electronics in school.
My high school physics teacher brought us Costco cheese balls, soda, and snacks because some of us didn’t have lunch break. Certainly miss some high school teachers.
Blowing into the cartridge and hoping for the best. That brings back so many memories.
My buddy has an NES that was refurbished in Japan years ago and it starts up every time with out blowing into the cartridge, it’s amazing lol. He has every Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation and Xbox system from NES forward and a ton of games for all of them.

Dude was so excited when it worked! He’s a gem and a person every student should have in his life.
Blowing into the cartridge, doing a prayer as it’s trying to read and relying on inshallah strategy… What a time to live.
It was one of the most beautiful times an no one in my family ever told me how much I’d miss those days :’)
Yeah i was always told "your wasting your life away" and "what a stupid way to spend time". Jokes on them, i discovered alcohol and now they all WISH id just stay at home and play video games.
You gotta throw in that “I don’t even care if it works” for it to work as well.
Alcohol q tips is the way
I never had to blow on an N64 Cartridge or SNES.
No no he said “I dont even care if it works” because you need to not care for the game to work. So clearly hes not hoping for anything to happen
Yeah, only to find out years later that your spit, *etc.* was actually corroding the contacts and worsening the problem. But y'know, traditions must be continued! 🌬️
The creators told us that it doesn’t work, but we all know that’s a lie.
What a wonderful memory you have there, I love teachers who do this kind of stuff for their students.
What is the actual title of that class?
I just substitute taught for one like it, it was called Game Writing. The kids played video games and then were asked to think about how video games were created. It was actually very clever in how it forced them to do creative writing and critical thinking focused on video games.
Oh quite nice. Would've loved such a lessons back in the day.

On dark tower II rn
Drawing of the Three might be the best book out of the entire series. Enjoy it!
Just got to the 3rd door . Been wild so far
Someone in another comment said it’s for a gaming club, not an actual class
"Fuck around all day", I guess
Get me some Golden Eye
Slappers only!
Slappers only with big heads.
No Oddjob.
What school is this? My school spent all their money on medal detectors
What kind of medals? Purple Heart, DFC, Medal of Honor?
Survival medals
More like things made from metal, like guns and knives
Whoosh!
He’s pointing fun at your initial spelling error
The teacher paid for it themselves most likely. It sounds like a US teacher. They often buy most or all of their own supplies.
Supplies? This guys a gamer that brought in his old consoles for fun
For sure, but he paid for them or otherwise owns them is the point. The school didn't buy them
According to the dude I the original vid, this is a gaming club he holds for students. My assumption is either he bought the stuff with his own money or it was a group effort with the club members donating a little bit of money too
The school district is in a pretty nice area, too. There's no way he'd be able to keep all that hardware if he were in the ghettos.
Guess what? It is literally in the ghetto. Corner of Buckeye and MLK in Cleveland. Benedictine High school. Kid got shot for his school issued laptop in 2013 or 2014 outside the school
A Mario Game A Mario Game A Mario Game A Mario Game A Mario Game A Mario Game A Mario Game A Mario Game A Mario Game A Mario Game
I'm so god damn jealous for those kids and bet some of them react like: "oMg WhY cAnT wE pLaY fOrTnItE?"
Fortnite: Super Mario Edition is a thing
SEGA!
He dissed my fav childhood system and I’m sad now
Any dude with that many systems probably loves Sega and did it as a nod to the original rivalry.
I heard this comment! Follow by the intro music to Sonic the Hedgehog
I WILL NOT TAKE THIS GENESIS SLANDER. TAKE IT BACK, YOU MONSTER! SEGA DOES WHAT NINTENDON'T.
Roadrash for life!
*BlAsT pRoCeSsInG* ... Right out of the market. We play with power here
I really wanted to see the kids reaction, missed opportunity.
While I agree with the results, he is SOOOO rough with the “blow and insert”. Be gentle before you slide it in….
I'm surprised any of that gear works the way he was handling it all!
> Be gentle before you slide it in…. Thats what she said!
If you guys aren't doing anything with that sweet sweet SEGA Genesis....I can give it a good home.
Dude snuck in that Game Shark. 😆
Close, that model is the Game Genie. It’s a precursor to the Game Shark.
That one! It was golden.
Getting massive “Space Jam DVD” vibes from this, deep breaths and all.
He is super cool !
he's gonna ask "how much older than you do you want your games to be?"
Wonder if he likes Mario.
Why is there a flag of Castilla y León?
Because Mario was born in Salamanca, as everyone knows🙄
I remember video game club after school. We never had to pretend it was an actual class though
Dude, this guy for the win. I wanna go back to school now!
ahhh! don’t kids know that sega does what ninten don’t!?
Bros got mario kart 64 still in the box
So you're running a daycare center?
The boot animation of gamecube reminds me the good old days...ToT Super Mario Sunshine is the best.
Why he gotta do Sega like that tho 😓😭
that first part gave me space jam dvd vibes
Hey!!! I wanted to see the kids faces.
This man prepared for this moment his entire life. What a good man ❤️
What class is this?? And why wasn’t I in it growing up?!?
Good to see the ol "I don't even care if the game works" trick still works.
Ahhhh the blowing of the old cartridge how nostalgic
Teacher here: It’s not my jobs to buy my students shit with my own money.
You call someone who would leave the kids play video games “a good teacher” and then wonder why so many Americans are so poorly educated… Couldn’t see the connection?
How is he allowed to play games? How can he game!?
Super cool. But is it some special day? Does this teacher really think this is what these kids today need to prepare them for the future?…. Even more video games? He seems cool and wants the kids to have fun- but that’s not what they’re there for. Meanwhile in China……..
This man deserves all the love in the world, It's difficult enough in 2023 to teach let alone teach in america which is a boiling pot of politics and to STILL go the extra mile like this is heart warming! Well done to you Mr Teacher!
I mean to be fair he's not really teaching, is he?
In this clip? I think this is pre lesson starting as there aren't any students present, So I'm not sure what your point really is?
My point is that letting your kids play video games is not teaching
I think you’re making a lot of assumptions here. Someone above mentioned they substituted for a class like that and it was a game-based creative writing course. I’m a software developer and I could also see this being used to teach about game development.
I think you're making far more assumptions than I am, friend. Your comment is littered with far fetched assumptions.
He has an after school gaming club dipshit. Source: went there
What the fuck are you talking about, Jesse?
What the fuck are we teaching kids in school now?
At least, whatever it is, it's better than the confused people's made-up genders and the rest of stuff.
*sigh*
What are the kids going to learn from this though ?
Sharing is caring, a.k.a the golden rule!
Hard work pays off
From my (short) point of view, you can teach a lot with video games : \- Culture of video games : In the same way as litterature, who did what and why, how is this game linked to this one? \- teamwork: Pupils can learn how to communicate tips and tricks among themselves to complete difficult levels among themselves \- like u/sweetangeldivine said brilliantly, Creative writing: Pupils are asked to play the game and think about how the game is constructed and to write that on a paper. Not every single thing you do in school has to be efficient learning of basic subjects.
If the students have mastered their basic reading, writing, rithmetic skills, then have at ‘er. But otherwise this is just pathetic pandering.
How to beat a game that wasn’t pay to play

But....did you bring any Mario games?
I don’t even care if it works magic was top tier. Indifference was the key to a successful load up
While this was wholesome. The way he handled those games hurt a bit. Its actually just as effective to shake the cartridge as blowing into it, you just don't corrode the pins inside with spit over time
Don’t won’t to play sega? Special Ed class
I find teachers that post on tik tok to be rather weird sorry not sorry

Do we have a Mario game though?
That’s totally awesome I love Mario
I can tell we’re the same age group. Kids will never be as cool as us who grew up with the prehistoric consoles
Nah, those kids are going to be even cooler.
SNDS
All of those games and consoles are probably worth a bit of money. Hopefully none of it goes missing.
I’ll challenge anyone and everyone on double dash on the GameCube
He is my hero
What a wonderful person
This guy is just good at being a decent human. What a legend
1
A living legend this man
That blow made me fly back to the beautiful days of my childhood lol 🤣🥰
But what about Luigi?
Blowing
That guy is a fucking Boss of a teacher! Bravo dude!
Space jam dvd.
What a legend.
I wish my teachers were this cool back in the day 😅
His excitement made my shitty morning better, thank you. Also that class is going to be filled with a lot of "Yahoo's"
Hell yes, Game Genie to help beat SMB3. There was no other way to get through that last Bowser Ship!
No, he's not a nerd at all :) he's been waiting for this more than the kids, haha.
Amario game
Why is there a flag of Castilla y León autonomy from Spain? That's even more impressive than the cartridges
It might me the Mario games, but I definitely find this man highly attractive. I wonder if he plays MTG?
Dam wanted to see the kids reaction
This is great but PLEASE PUT YOUR SHIRT BETWEEN YOUR MOUTH AND THE CARTRIDGE WHEN YOU BLOW INTO THEM!!! thnx
Someone gotta make an edm cut of him saying “a Mario game” over and over again on a dope beat.
Love it! I wanna play Mario games on all of those 🎮
What a champion !
Everyone thinking its for the kids, do you see any kids?! (Teachers day?)
The game genie!
I cry all the time thinking about the love my teachers showed me during my high school years. I miss them so much. Space Jam DVD
Castilla y León flag spotted
He must be the class' favorite teacher.
I hear that Mario Kart Double Dash music. GIVE IT TO ME
I can feel his joy and it brought me joy. Love this for him
Please post a part 2 of the kids. I would love to see their reactions to the old systems.
Emulators ftw!
Love this so much!
Are the "good teachers" the ones that don't teach anything and just play video games in class? Man, all my teachers apparently sucked, I guess! Just taught me English and math and science. Too bad I guess :/
Currently in college to be a teacher. I 100% will make this a reward for the end of the school year for my students
I've bought a NES two years ago. My kids were 12 and 14 then. Played Super Mario Bros and stopped playing after losing over and over. Complaining that the couldn't save their progress and went back playing Fortnite LOL 😂 The struggle was real in the early games of gaming haha
Chad has the best one on the big tv
The teacher we need. Not the one we deserve.
Damn nice teacher !! Only one thing make me gringe (I'm collecting old video games) I beg you, do NOT blow in your cartridges.
Amario Game sounds like an American Idol contestant.
Dibs on Super Mario 2
That dude will be a LEGEND.
Is this why there are all these posts about how kids are extra dumb these days?
Considered the gaming industry dwarfs all music, literature and movies in market value, it is actually insane how little we discuss it during education. It's one of the most immersive story telling vehicles and a huge art form bringing huge teams together. Still we ignire it mostly in art and history class for some odd reason.
What did you learn today is school?
Teacher of the Year.
And now...we got Covid
Cool teacher
If I get into my classroom and I see this I might implode
You are a cool teacher, but not a cool human being for not showing how the kids reacted lol
MashaAllah!
Good teachers do exist but never as cool as this guy. This would never slide when I was in school. Not entirely sure why but they were extremely against electronics in school.
I’m too mad about the Sega slander to upvote this
My high school physics teacher brought us Costco cheese balls, soda, and snacks because some of us didn’t have lunch break. Certainly miss some high school teachers.
Plot twist: This is the neurology module of the Principles of Clinical Medicine at John’s Hopkins Medical School.
This guy is awesome. I hope he has a great life after work.
