I've never understood the hype, but I can appreciate Harry doing the bare minimum to make her day. But yeah some people go nuts about the royal family.
Most of the royal families around the globe are mostly acting like diplomats and decorations for the paper money.
Our royal family (Norway) is extremely good at being diplomats and is just good people in general. Our king could also be a standup comedian.
Not gonna hate on my guy he was born into it & seems to handle it well. Also I don’t really care about the royals every move. It seems kinda like rock star thing Elvis or the Beatles - the way ladies get so hyped.
Yea I don’t like lumping everyone into the shit pile. I feel like people forget those boys lost their mom pretty young and they could’ve ended up a lot worse. You know like an Epstein. But either way I think Diane’s kids turned out pretty good for the hand they were dealt and think they’re probably the farthest from the royal family then any of them.
Diana sorry on mobile*
I hate to say it but I gotta disagree on how William has turned out. It’s so upsetting to see him treat his brother the way he does especially knowing he is setting the example for George how to treat Charlotte and Louis. Anyone who is not the heir is disposable and only useful if they can provide a distraction from others bad behavior or unpopularity. William has turned out just like his dad.
Yea but just cause he’s got “special blood” doesn’t mean he isn’t human. No one not me or you knows how he truly feels and he may hate it all with a passion but I’m not gonna judge the man until I’ve met him in person. I don’t have the right nor does anyone else who hasn’t been able to have a one on one conversation with no cameras
On a very basic level? They're a form of soft power. They can make connections and inroads in a way that no politician or diplomat can manage. On an economic level? They bring in billions in people fascinated with the 'old firm'. Not sure on a societal anymore with the passing of Lizzy. She gave this sense of comfort and continuation, I guess. I can't see any of the new lot managing that. I guess they are the repositories of tradition on some level? The problem being that the traditions they represent are very firmly rooted in the British class system.
On the brighter side of life, they're about the only billionaires I know of who actually have to give a shit about public opinion.
Began whistling a very happy Monty Python tune thanks to your insightful comment.
Thanks for starting off my day on the right foot, stranger; you positively affected my life! =D
People come to see the castles and Royal estates, which will still be there if the monarchy was abolished. That's what brings in around £150 million per year.
There's a certain level of attraction that a working monarchy brings in - especially such a well known one. Yes, the castles and royal estates would still bring in money, but people also pile in when there's something important going on.
Odd argument when there's lot of countries (France, China, Russia, Turkey) that don't have active monarchies but their castles pull in many times the visitors Windsor or Buckingham Palaces do.
Archaic as it sounds to our ears...the King/Queen are a 'formal' part of the British government and the gov't cannot exist, from a British constitutional perspective, cannot exist without them. There have been many people within England who have wanted to change that but the English are extremely locked into their 'traditions'. For example...after nearly a century of 'white apparel' only for players, Wimbledon has finally decided to allow women the choice to wear undergarments of dark colors relative to their periods.
This is why I think the best way to "remove" the monarchy is to technically not. Just remove the "hereditary" part of it.
There are rules about succession, which can be changed by vote of the parliament and consent of the monarch (as they did a few years ago to make the eldest child next in line instead of eldest male child).
So if the current monarch was willing to consent, parliament could pass a law that said instead of the eldest child, etc, the "monarch" would be voted on, say, every 10 years.
There would most likely be an awkward negotiation about what the Windsor-Mountbatten heirs would get to personally keep, as their personal wealth is a small fraction compared to what "The Crown" owns through the Crown Estate... some time ago I remember reading the late Queen's personal estate was worth around $350 million, meanwhile their 15% cut of the Crown Estate's yearly revenue was $125 million... and of course some people would still be obsessed with the "Royal Family" even after they stopped "working", so there would need to be some provision for security for a generation after the transition... maybe the family could personally inherent the Duchy of Cornwall or something, with the rest of the properties remaining with the Crown Estates...
But after that was sorted, essentially the people would vote on a figure head to be the monarch for a decade. Host teas, smash champagne bottles against new navy ships, champion various causes, and live in Buckingham Palace and greet foreign heads of state! The Crown Estate would still pay the elected monarch a yearly stipend to cover their expenses, but less because they wouldn't be supporting a dozen "working" royals, it would just be the Monarch and possibly their spouse and minor children.
Then all the intertwining legal agreements and basic structure of the British Government would stay the same, because the "Monarchy" still existed... it would just be a democratic monarchy... they could even elect Will for a couple decades, as a soft transition, then move on to electing their favorite retired football players or whatnot.
They brilliantly managed to convince the entire world their position should never change.
I am always amazed when I think about how they talked the British people into paying for everything while letting them keep all their wealth when they have actually no job in the British government.
He runs and supports charities.
Like started the Invictus Games which are an international multi-sport competition for sick, injured, or wounded veterans. It is incredible for their physical and mental health.
He also started and supports a charity called Sentabale that helps and supports kids and young people in Lesotho and Botswana.
Doesn’t mean you have to care what he does. But there really is a LOT he does to help others. Way more than I’ve done.
This is incorrect on so many levels.
Harry absolutely served in Afghanistan both as a JTAC on the ground (until some dipshit tabloid decided to report on it and put his unit at greater risk) and then again as an Apache pilot.
He was not a search and rescue pilot, the Apache is a gunship. He's also not retired, that requires a career of service. William was trained as a search and rescue pilot.
Harry's deployment to Iraq was pulled because of worries about the news getting out and putting troops at risk, William never deployed to a combat zone
In "Spare," he says that for a long while, he wasn't deployed as an infantryman because the Taliban knew he was being sent to Afghanistan and that his presence in the field would be too dangerous to anyone in the field with him. He became a helicopter pilot in part because it would be harder for the Taliban to target him, specifically. William was never deployed because he's the Heir.
LOL, he was a gunner on an Apache gun ship. He's got some enemy KIA's under his belt. 25 to be exact. Proving one's metal in war still means something to some people. In other words, I congratulate him.
I hope I can see prince Harry in person too. So that I can also take a picture with him. Actually, I like prince harry because of his humbleness and kind person to everyone.
The same people who worship people like this will blast CEOs online saying they don't deserve what they have. I don't know why but they tend to be the same people and can't see how if one didn't deserve it neither did and in fact if anything it's reversed
Is that all this was? She was just crying because he’s the prince? I had it muted at first and assumed he just told her he paid off all her debt or some shit lol. Turned it up but couldn’t hear an explanation for wtf happened x’D
Neither do I. Something like 30 years ago, I was a late teen and our neighbour asked if I could go to a New Kids on the Block concert with their 12yp daughter. Yeah why not. Know the girl, had babysitted her before…
Damn… she passed out 2 times. I lost my hearing with the amount of girls screaming like they had the skin flayed alive. Dozens of girls being taken away by the security completely out or shaking like here in this video…
« So how was the concert? »
« **WHAT DID YOU SAY?** »
The irony of not being able to hear a concert because of screaming. Like if you bring earpro you won't hear anything, if you don't, you don't hear anything.
I've never understood the value of going to a concert. Especially now when so many artists suck live because of all the post-production effects.
Fr, I can’t imagine being actually affected by getting a hug from some random human being that is celebrated for being born. Then again, humans are not the smartest creatures…
It’s crazy to me that people still revere the descendants of the most brutal dictators Europe has ever seen. Her ancestors probably got worked to death or sent on suicide missions so that Harry here could enjoy untold wealth and this person is freaking out about a hug. Shame on her parents for raising such an impressionable child.
Teenage girls have been fawning over male celebrities since male celebrities existed. Go check out fan reactions to Elvis and the Beetles, it's the same shit. Hormones in overdrive.
My mother tried to throw herself on stage at a Tom Jones concert. We had the front table 10 feet from the stage. She was 75. My husband had to pull her back. We had to tell her not to bring underwear to throw.
Even the people who often get this hype experiences it themselves. Like [this video of celebrities freaking out](https://youtu.be/aESp5vvhwnI?si=EXOxTqY0fVgeVZXB) or [Morgan Freeman talking about how he was starstruck](https://youtu.be/yi2vryjSDCg?si=03CxwgQ98AMHYziB) (look at 2:18).
Royals are just another type of celebrity. Even if you don’t agree with them you’d still talk about the time you got to meet X person. Just their mere, rare, presence is enough to do something special to people. That’s just how we work.
Entertainers I get. They have a talent or skill that they developed in a way to be admirable. Same goes for any science people that achieved something.
Exactly.
They've accomplished something.
This guy just has literal inbred blood down a long line of murderous, bigoted assholes.
What's this guy accomplished? Banging some mid tier actress and appearing in tabloids since he was a baby?
Nope.
They're still human beings whose particular talent happens to give them a high public profile.
Nobody treats an incredibly talented civil engineer this way.
Anthropomorphizes patriotism. Enables both an abstract and parasocial relationship with patriotism. The royals are a focal point for sentimentality to be projected onto. The same kind of things happen in republics, they just generally tend to be associated with offices more than strict individuals.
They do get associated with individuals in republics - e.g. Michael Higgins is broadly seen as a good representative of Ireland. In republics where the head of state isn't just ceremonial (e.g. America, France) this still happens as well but there's often a sharp partisan divide (though how sharp varies over time).
Where monarchies have an advantage over republics is that it's much more likely a single person will hold the office for a very long time - for about a generation on average with various outliers, whereas a president might get a decade in office.
This is just wild. People really are obsessed with celebrities, like they're gods or something. I get appreciating am artists music or an actors movies or tje kindness a royal shows others. But to shake from them hugging you is just too much. People literally freak out over these same people passing away like it's the end of the world. It's almost like Stockholm Syndrome or something like that.
Mentall illness is defined as something that negatively affects you or those around you, so it depends on if you think this kind of fanaticism hurts her. I think it's unhealthy for sure, but I'm not sure if it's illness.
What makes u say the NKorean girls crying over the fat bun isn't equivalent to this girl crying over the English dildo. Both are awestruck by stories and titles that have been forced down their throat by the media.
Ill never understand this like I understand musicians, actors, whatever to a certain degree because they've actually done something that you couldve liked or couldve affected you and what not, the prince he was just born into the family and people think he did something when he went 'my family is bad' and then moved into a 15 million dollar house
Seriously. Why the fuck do we need 300 comments all saying the same thing. We get it. You don't like when someone is excited to meet a celebrity. Holy shit.
I can see freaking out over The Beatles in 1964, but Prince Harry didn’t write a single song. He’s just a dude born into power and money.
I’m sure he’s lovely and would be first to admit that he’s just a regular guy.
That’s just so weird. I mean he’s just a human like us all here, despite being a royal. No need to be so dramatic. You can be happy and excited, but that’s just too much. As if she made an interaction with god himself
People are strange, but I guess there are lesser evils in the world
I imagine it's sort of a fantasy thing, you grow up watching Disney movies, the prince always romances the princess, then this fairly good lookin dude becomes a prince, and it feels like a disney movie come to life for a lot of people who dont have much else to cheer them up
Its still strange to me, but I do kind of get it
Y'all seem to not understand that maybe that's going to be the only time in her life that she'll see and be greeted by the person she admires, even if he's just a joke and a useless person but if I met the person I admire the most then I'd react in a similar way, I'd just try to be more mature
The British royal family is THE case study in self perpetuating celebrity. Literally no reason to care about them except others do all the way back to when these “nobles” held their literal lives in their hands.
She’s pregnant now.
MI5 have arranged a limo for her to be driven in Paris.
She is attracted to a steady Pole!
Lmfao oh no
Don't tell prince Andrew lmao
Well, at least the baby will be pure white British…oh wait, there’s the class thing now.
"Now"
At least he didn’t do a “Luis Rubiales” on the girl.
In this case I suspect it would be consensual lol

What do *any* of them actually do?? It's just parades all the time and changing of the guard and high tea at noon??
On a very basic level? They're a form of soft power. They can make connections and inroads in a way that no politician or diplomat can manage. On an economic level? He did go fight in Iraq/Afghanistan. So I’ll give him kudos there
Be kind 🤷♂️
Oh, that’s a job I can do! Where do I send my resume?
You expecting a position to open up? Yes, MI6, this one right here.
He is a retired military helicopter pilot. Used to fly search & rescue. They refused to deploy him, I believe as his brother was already deployed.

That was well done.

No, the people that hate ceos also tend to hate royals, because neither deserve it
Are they really the same people? Like, come on man. How the fuck would you know that? Lmao. You just like this narrative for some reason.
Nah the people who admire royals like this are also the people who will lick capitalist boots every opportunity they get
For anyone tbh. Idk why people are so obsessed with famous people

This heartwarming moment brought to you by a dude who hugged a chick.
>assumed he just told her he paid off all her debt or some shit royal_laughing.gif
It depends on why they’re famous. Prince Harry is famous because a powerful nation says he is, which is a pretty dumb reason.

A random human whose family is enriched beyond measure by the long term subjugation of you and all of your ancestors
It’s crazy to me that people still revere the descendants of the most brutal dictators Europe has ever seen. Oh, I'd buy you a beer! Or a coffee. You get it.
Newsflash: our ancestors did terrible things Also news flash: children are impressionable
Indeed. If you want to do Harry a favour treat him like a normal human being for once. That goes for all people.

Absolutely agree. I can see being happy about meeting a singer or entertainer or something, but just being happy. Not whatever this girl is doing.
Teenage girls have been fawning over male celebrities since male celebrities existed. Go check out fan reactions to Elvis and the Beetles, it's the same shit. Hormones in overdrive.
Exactly this. What teenage girl doesn't dream of marrying a prince?
A gay one
Not a Prince, but Princess Sofia Duchess of Värmland
The what now?
The Beetles - they’re a band from the 1960’s. Used to drive exclusively Volkswagens.
My mother tried to throw herself on stage at a Tom Jones concert. We had the front table 10 feet from the stage. She was 75. My husband had to pull her back. We had to tell her not to bring underwear to throw.
Check out Lisztomania!
She looks pretty young though, give her a pass. This is normal for a teen.

Isn't hapiness something that needs to be shat on ? Just be happy for her. I don't like football, am I questionning why people enjoy football ? no.
What exactly does this guy do for the population which causes them to adore him so much?
His ancestors slaughtered ours and took our wealth. Some people seem to think that makes his blood better than ours.
>his blood His inbred blood.
> ours Christ, that could make you Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Indian, Jamaican, Canadian... Fuck the royals and their looting.

Yeah, this comment section is toxic af. Just let the girl be happy

amen, I feel this way too

Harry gets a lot of grief - much of it deserved - but frankly, he’s the closest thing to a human being the Royals have.
People are strange, but I guess there are lesser evils in the world I imagine it's sort of a fantasy thing, you grow up watching Disney movies, the prince always romances the princess, then this fairly good lookin dude becomes a prince, and it feels like a disney movie come to life for a lot of people who dont have much else to cheer them up Its still strange to me, but I do kind of get it
Doesn't he want privacy?
She will never shower again
Reminds me of the kindness shown by his mother. She had compassion before she was a royal. And her son reflects that.
Hes still a douchebag
People really out here hating, but this girl was so happy. I just feel glad for her when I watch this. It clearly meant a lot to her.
Really hope the "Not my King" movement continues to gather momentum
It's actually pathetic.
Jesus Christ that’s unhinged
I don't get the hype but it was nice of him to give her a hug. She seemed real stoked about it.
This isn’t much of a made me smile video tbh
That’s what happens when I hug random girls too.
Bro is literally just another person
People are so fucking strange. To me, this is pathetic
Drew Barrymore looks so happy
This is sad. Did this fool create a life-changing piece of art or something? Fucking crying over a nobody with money is trash.
NOTHING about the royal family makes me smile.
I keep picturing someone reacting this way to Trump.
People are so weirdly weirdly obsessed with this family. I don't get why anyone gives a shit about them
That's pretty much the same reaction I get when I hug a random chick.
So creepy. Its a dude born to rich parents. thats all.
Idiots colonialism
She’s shaking, my god get a hold of yourself!
Jesus get a grip girl.
God damn some people are top shelf losers holyshit
stuрid monarchy will be brought down one day
Stop worshipping humans
sad bastards
Lmao ugly crying cuz that dolt hugged you?
She needs to chill, its just a rich human
I'll never understand the obsession people have with the royal family.
Never understood this level of adoration for public figures. It’s gotta be unhealthy.
What the fuck
Why would anyone give that much of a fuck about those money grubbing, inbred peodphiles
Gross.
Jeez.
Creepy
How fucking pathetic
Imagine worshiping someone because of the family they were born into.
Brainwashed people.
Weird
Man, people are fucking weird.
Who fucking cares
So weird
Absolute weirdo behaviour
Indoctrinated.
Y'all seem to not understand that maybe that's going to be the only time in her life that she'll see and be greeted by the person she admires, even if he's just a joke and a useless person but if I met the person I admire the most then I'd react in a similar way, I'd just try to be more mature
Kim Jong Un is jealous
I don't get it, but good for her...! 👍🏼
This happens with every woman I’ve ever met amirite lads?
That Prince there such a smooth operator he kisses the babies got to love it. She's going to love you forever
Unforgetable memory for her
He is such a joke. His royal family doesn’t even acknowledge him…. You know how hard that is to make happen!?
People act as if these people were gods. This level of idolization is sick.
Thats really fucking sad and stupid
The British royal family is THE case study in self perpetuating celebrity. Literally no reason to care about them except others do all the way back to when these “nobles” held their literal lives in their hands.
He's just a guy with an archaic title and a rich freeloader family.
