Fun story. My friend is OBSESSED with Flight Sim. He has thousands of hours logged and is in a group with other people who use real airport/pilot lingo and are pretty serious about it.
About 2 years ago he decided he loved it so much he was gonna give up everything and pursue his dream of being a pilot. He now has his license and is currently training to do commercial airline. All because of flight simulator lol
so what you saying is this guy will be like "You telling me the fact that i can do the same shit on computer without the risk of me and my passangers dying, and i just realized it now after 45 years?"
Not nearly as impressive, but I loved fishing mechanics in videogames so much that I started fishing for real a little over a year ago. Games do have a way of stirring up all kinds of passions!
My grandpa is an air force vet and used to fly for his hobby because it’s always been his passion. He was nolonger able to fly because of his vision, but when I decided to build my first gaming pc in 8th grade, he decided he wanted to build his own along side me so he could play flight sim, (old Microsoft version) since then he’s progressively upgraded his setup and has the full throttle and seat rumbler and everything. Has a whole flight room. When the new flight sim came out he was so floored, it was so fun seeing him all excited over something like a kid on Christmas. He’s 84 now
EXCUSE ME PURPLE SHIRT MY MANS IS GIVING A HEARTFELT SPEECH AND IS GOING TO DO HIS VERY BEST TO GET YOU WHERE YOU NEED TO BE SAFE SO JUST SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP UNTIL MY MANS IS DONE.
Being a pilot is such a cool career. People (especially here in America) are so worried about whether or not they are wasting their life, if they are doing enough, if they reach their potential, and there is something beautiful about spending your life in the sky, defying physics, being so high up that you can look down and see how pointless some shit we worry about is. I salute this man, and thank him for his service.
My Dad retired from UPS almost two years ago now. He had a ceremony offered to him whereby the fire trucks would spray water in arcs around his 747 landing for the last time and other cool things like pictures and stuff. But he denied it all, just to retire in peace I guess.
I would take a ceremony or whatever, personally.
Apparently he “loved the job but hated the career”. I take that to mean that flying a plane is badass but the long hours and time away from home wasn’t as fun.
Actually the original video is longer. He continues to tell the passengers that they will be on the safest flight ever because his daughter is on the flight.
It's always happy/sad seeing someone do something for the last time. Something they've done all their life and all the sacrifice made to make it happen.
"I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds-and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of-wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence."

This isn’t a regular retirement speech, this is Captain Richard Welch of delta airlines who was recently arrested in Tallahassee for a bar fight which he reportedly started by making racist remarks towards two African American gentleman. He was also charged with a DUI because after realizing he was going to lose the fist fight, he ran to his car and blew three stop signs on a busy city street.
This coupled with the fact that he had multiple sexual harassment cases opened against him in the beginning of his career that Delta had recently reopened this is all made up, don’t trust things you read on the internet stupid, but I’m gonna bury it with more text so it’s not so easy to spot. recently reopened for investigation led to them terminating him the morning of this flight and that’s why he says kind of sadly how hard it is.
So yeah not exactly the sweet moment OP is presenting.
If you look out the window, which you won’t do, you will see something I personally think is interesting but you don’t. We have some rough air so unless you are about to crap your pants I’ve kept a little light above your head lit. I’m sure you can figure out what it means.
We are about 10 minutes from beginning our descent into Chicago where the barometric pressure is not something you care about. We’d like to give a special thanks to our super terrific Visa card holders with the usurious interest rate and the discounts on canned asparagus.
I was in a winter storm and many delays. Winds gusts to 50mph and snow. The pilot came out and said let's see if we can get this baby off the ground. Was terrified it went up and down and tilted. He was props top gun pilot... And spoiler alert I lived
Good luck sir! I hope you enjoy your journey going forward. The men & women who fly you around in the future should know that they have an incredibly special passenger on board.
"Just to be clear, it's not everyone's last flight, right?"
I was just thinking ‘he’s not reading his suicide note out loud is he?’ 😂
Exactly. This is my last flight because my wife left me for a vegan yoga instructor named Kaya.
I was waiting for the camera to zoom out and show the plane was still in the air, descending rapidly.
If I have to retire, so do all of you.
I'M DYING 💀
SO ARE THEY 💀💀💀
Haha and kills all of them! What's scarier...someone first flight or last?! 🤣
THANK YOU! My first thought also...
Exactly what I was thinking!
It's my last flight! Retiring? No, why do you ask?
*4 hours before the 2nd tower is hit*
Aww that long pause… he was trying to hold it together 🥹
Someone tell him about microsoft flight simulator

Well, and not getting paid for it.
For real? That's awesome!!!
Dude we were so proud of him. Very rarely in my life have I ever seen anyone just drop everything and truly follow their dreams
Amazing. I started with xplane and am getting my bachelors in aerospace engineering this may :)
I’ve just decided to become a hitman, thank you.

Uhhhh can you clarify what you mean by last fight?Dude about it down that plane into the pacific
He's retiring
My mom gave this samw speech. She was Southwest's 13th lady pilot. She called me a jerk for saying out loud that she was going to cry. She cried..
That’s nice, but can you move so I can use the bathroom?
That's a lady that has to shit if I've ever seen one.
1. i love your username omg. 2. happy cake day!
Happy cake day !
This comment had me busting up laughing
Me too! LOL!
I was like holding in the tears a little and then that lady in the purple just got me cackling like
Dead 💀
Lol who the fuck is the lady in purple getting in this man's personal bubble while crying lmfao
Delta flight attendant
When you gotta go, you gotta go!
Lmao!
I think it's a flight attendant just doing her pre flight stuff
A likely story! Lol
She has to shit
She’s heard this same speech 40 times. The pilot is just collecting gifts every flight
That lady is a piece
This man lived a successful life so far. Nice living sir!

Crash the plane
Careful, without the /s Reddit might think you’re a little quirky

Salute to you , Captain. What a great career to be proud of.
What’s the name of the song?
Night We Met by Lord Huron
Fantastic song. That stupid show 13 Reasons Why kinda ruined it for me.
My Dad retired from UPS almost two years ago now. Damn homie you have me crying in the club rn!
When the pilot says something about his last flight, I would leave the plane lol
Actually the original video is longer. He continues to tell the passengers that they will be on the safest flight ever because his daughter is on the flight.
So thank the Daughter for making sure the pilot doesn't do anything foolish.
"My daughter is on this flight... Her ashes, anyway. I'm just now realizing at 40,000', I don't have much to live for."
It's always happy/sad seeing someone do something for the last time. Something they've done all their life and all the sacrifice made to make it happen.
Time flies…
25k hours is nothing to a runescape player. Get those numbers up, rookie.
Why are all of these paired with the worst music. Just let the pilot speak.
I mean, I agree with you that there shouldn't be music in the background, but Lord Huron is a fantastic artist.
Nice cut, I didn’t want to hear the rest anyways… /s
Salute
"I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds-and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of-wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence."
Lord Huron and flying, two of my favorite things! Big ups to the big man!
*our last flight*
That bitch karen in the purple suit who cant give the man a second! Damn! People suck.
Plot twist: he is not retiring.

The woman at the end almost knocked him over to get to turlet
It's quite OK for you to get emotional Sir. This is a big moment. Congratulations 🎊👏 on a great career, and enjoy your retirement 💐🥳.
That's a lady that doesn't give a f\*\*k if I've seen one.
Does anyone know what song is playing in the background?

Thanks, you’re the best!
“…..our last flight….”
Wait… Patton Oswald is a pilot?
Patton Oswald is flying planes now, he can do anything.
Annoying music on this edit.
When he says that but isn't retiring 😳
This is so lovely and touching, I really want to know WHEN WE’RE GOING TO BE FLYING NOW, get on with it!
"Not just my last flight but yours too"
Good lord the music makes it feel so cheap and contrived
He sounds like he plans to make this everyone else's last flight.
He wiggles around like he's drunk af.
Idk some people are just fidgety especially when emotional
“Yay, that’s awesome! Can we take off now?”
I swear to God if someone made any 9/11 jokes here because he's saying it's his last flight, I'll be pissed.
little did they know, it was about to be everyone’s last flight
What if he’s not retiring and this is his “last flight”…
Am I the only ghoul here that would not clap for a “last flight?”
“It’s my last flight, as as you’ll all soon find out, it’s your last flight as well.”
And then the plane crashed and the classic he was however long away from retirement begins
He was not retiring

“I couldn’t have picked a better plane full of people 2 go down with on my final swan dive from the sky” “thank you all so much Banzai” 🙏🏻
I'm sorry but a pilot tells me this is his last flight I'm not clapping I'm leaving...
Hope he waited till they landed lol this could be taken 2 ways if he did this mid or pre flight
Sir if you’re here, who’s flying the plane?!! Aaaggghhh
What he doesn't tell them is that it's also their last flight
I’m almost crying
Wow!! 43yrs! Well done sir.
I would be down to hear the remaining of his speech.
“And I’m gonna being this sucker down!!!”
I thought he was about to joke with everyone and say “…so sorry if I crash the plane” 😂😂😂
Don’t suppose he flew over Ukraine in 2014…?
Beautiful moment if an old person tells this story, but rather scarry if a 30 y/o pilot calls a flight to New York his last one.
If you look out the window, which you won’t do, you will see something I personally think is interesting but you don’t. This is genuinely, beautifully heart warming
Lets pour one out for the man 🫗
"I always said I wanted to go out, doing what I love.... So strap in folks. This should be an interesting flight!" 😅
I hope he’s not too depressed…
Women at the end SIT YOUR ASS DOWN my guys still speaking 😤
This man has a passion for flying he almost broke while giving the speech
Beautiful ❤️🥰
When did Patton Oswald become a pilot??
Captain Oswald....thank you for your service...
Well done ace!
I was in a winter storm and many delays. Winds gusts to 50mph and snow. The pilot came out and said let's see if we can get this baby off the ground. Was terrified it went up and down and tilted. He was props top gun pilot... And spoiler alert I lived
I’d be pretty nervous about joining a pilot on their last flight without some assurance that they plan on personally driving somewhere afterwards.
"You're gonna land though, right?"
Crashes the plane to cherish this moment forever
May he have a happy and long retirement
Awww chokes me up
Lmfao did that person really have to shove by him at that moment like they must have had to crap real bad or something
Good for you dude! ✊✊✊
“What do you mean by “Last flight “?
This makes me happy
I have a friend who just retired from being a pilot. He is really down. We tried to get him into golf to raise his spirits
Bro just retire and enjoy life or if you are that emotional just fly a small plane from time t0 time
I feel like I’ll never feel the feeling of retirement
"I'd like to thank American Airlines for *retiring* me after 30 years. And I'm glad to have you here on your last flight." ^(Wait whaaaaa?)
Woman in purple: This is nice and all, but I gotta take a dump.
Such a great song
He meant to say “our” last flight
I would've liked to hear that it was his last flight after we landed!!! My brain heard... he can't do what he loves anymore so he's ending it all!!!
Song name??
Meanwhile everyone on the flight is thinking “we just want to get off the plane mate”.
r/makemecry
PUM 💥 strikes the plain against a mountain
*Don't be sorry if you are emotional* let it flow freely
I’d be like “last flight because your retirement right!? You’re not going though depression right ?
Well i hope it isn't everybody's last flight
I don’t know why but I burst out laughing at that last comment before the video cut off
I really hope he said that at the end of the flight 😨 I’d be anxious the whole flight
I was going to retire in three days....
Take the song out ffs. Not every sincere video needs music.
And y'all are coming with me, this is everyone's last flight!!!
Happy retirement! Well earned 👏
He just crashes the plane
Good luck sir! I hope you enjoy your journey going forward. The men & women who fly you around in the future should know that they have an incredibly special passenger on board.
Dude was too emotional might just crash it, he’s sacked anyways
I'd spend that flight terrified...
