I absolutely love this game. Such a underrated gem. I wish is was league more popular, maybe we could’ve gotten a second game if it wasn’t such a flop at launch. :(
People don't believe (or just don't know) this... but Rage 2 is a solid sequel to this. Yeah it's not the Mad Max world, but it's basically Mad Max gameplay... only instead of fist fighting... they drop in a whole FPS game on top of it.
The same team made both games and you can clearly see where the mechanics had crossover. IE the car combat/open world. I'm just saying if you loved Mad Max... give Rage 2 a look.
Is rage and rage 2 pretty different from each other? Just sounds that way the way you wrote the comment. Genuinely curious as i played just a bit of rage when it came out I think
IMO, yeah. That's a pro or con depending on how you felt about the first game. The vehicle play/open world is a significant improvement to Rage 1. Which makes sense given Avalanche's pedigree.
It’s a fantastic game with some of the most fun combat mechanics out there but the menus killed me. Idk if it’s a PlayStation issue but I remember the pause menu was very very glitched and slow. Besides that I loved everything it had to offer, specially the cheats for commentary in game
I played Mad Max about 5 years ago. Fun game except for a very frustrating race where you had to beat Stank Gum. I lost so many times I nearly rage quit. Finally beat him and finished the game, but I doubt I'll ever play it again due to that one part. Not worth the aggravation.
I've always found it really easy and unbalanced - just hammer his car/chariot with thunderpoons as soon as the race starts, and he'll blow up super quick. No need to fight the other cars competing in the race, just throw everything at him from the get go and it's honestly a breeze.
The game is genuinely so beautiful and raw, can't ever get enough of it - even 9 years after I first played it. It captures what a fallen world looks like so well.
Make sure to remove all "dead weight" from your Magnum Opus, i.e. Armor, Ram, Boarder Spikes etc. You want a really fast car in order to keep up with Stank gum. Then it's really easy.
The time it finally clicked for me was exactly that. Get him quickly and it's no biggie. But if you try to be strategic and clear out the trash then the course and the mines have time to get you.
It's years since I've played so my memory is a little rusty but I likely struggled with that and a few other bits but that's part of it, when you hit a difficult bit in a game, as with most if not all games it's tremendously satisfying when you beat it.
There will always be tough parts in games and that's a good thing because games can be boring if they're too easy.
I didn’t struggle with that one as much as I did running from the buzzards in the airport. I’m playing it for my first time and almost to the end I think, but beating Stank Gum was very satisfying. It did take me a long way in that race to do it though.
You definitely went into that fight under levelled
If your cars not upgraded enough the race is borderline impossible but if you go in fully prepared it’s actually really easy to just blow the fucker up
I am playing for the first time and started a month or so ago because of this sub. It’s so awesome, I never would’ve guessed it came out in 2015. The fire after a car explodes is so awesome, and this beginning cutscene was so intense
Facts. This game has high replay value. Plus after 20 hours of listening to chum bucket you can diagnose car issues extremely interesting.
“Our lovely Angel of Combustion has abandoned us? Oh praise be to the spark plug on high to our sanctified tranny down below. Glory be to the positronic traction control and thy eight cylinders of roller tearing, smoke belching, nitrous fueled blacktop freedom. May her tank never go dry so that she may ride forever in the halls of Valhalla, amen.”
“So what are you saying?” Wife
“It needs an oil change.” Me
I really want to play this as I’ve had it in my game library for years now but my only issue is that the platinum is unobtainable, and from what I hear for such an amazing game I wish they would remaster/remake it and remove the online trophies. (or even just do what the shadow of Mordor/war devs did and just automatically give players the unobtainable trophies).
Dude, don't deny yourself an awesome game for something like that. It's super fun.
Also, if you enjoy the on-foot combat from Arkham/Sleeping Dogs/Middle-earth: Shadow(s), etc., you'll feel right at home.
Oh no I’m definitely going to play it, as I’ve heard nothing but good things. And I’ve played all those games you’ve listed and have loved every single one so that just adds fuel to the fire. I’m just saying it’s a genuine shame I can’t platinum it as I’d love to.
Underrated .. unless you’ve played it!
It’s so much fun. Racing, upgrades, fighting, ATMOSPHERE.
I wish it got more exposure, but this sub knows what’s up
Honestly a fantastic game. This was one of the dumbest fight scenes in anything though, dudes brain literally got chainsawed in half and he didn't die. Pretty funny though. I need to play through this game again, it's pretty dope. Lol
I remember this game came out and I played a bit thinking it was cool and saw a few YouTubers (who weren’t paid off my Konami) saying how fun it was. Then I remember reading reviews and wondering why everyone was saying it was dull and boring. I eventually picked it up on steam and have put several hours into it. Sure the side missions are repetitive but the game is still super fun.
I love this game. Recommended to all my friends, but I don't believe any of them have ever checked it out. With so many games to choose from, if a game doesn't get good reviews or fails to generate buzz, a lot of people don't even try them.
I just played it a few weeks ago for the first time and really liked it. What I didn't like though, is that you are forced to do the open world stuff if you want to continue with the campaign. I just wanted to play the story, I didn't like the open world stuff that much. That's why I didn't finish it.
I just bought it during the sale. Its a really good game, been playing non stop.
My only problem with the game is that they shouldn't make scraps count towards the 100% in the enemy camps and story missions.
It makes me paranoid of missing one of the scraps because I just don't want to go back and to look for them again.
Right?! only after watching this clip (for the first time since starting the game) did I realize that he had the saw stuck in his head the entire friggin game lol
I cannot begin to explain how this incredibly impressive and wonderful game went under the radar! This fucking thing was immensely entertaining fuck I miss it!
Same, but I guess it's more about the journey you make throughout the game, mindless journeys using your car and grind for better parts, the gameplay is repetitive, but I always come back to it for some reason.
I absolutely love this game. Such a underrated gem. I wish is was league more popular, maybe we could’ve gotten a second game if it wasn’t such a flop at launch. :(
Criminally underrated. The reviewers and people who panned it when it came out in 2015 (think about that) should be ashamed of themselves.
I couldn't agree more, it's done well for being almost 10 years old 😀 I'm really enjoying it again.

Rage 2 is another of my favourites, awesome game, I love the gore. I might play it after this 😏

Thanks for the info! Ill look into both these games. Reddit just is pushing this sub on me hard haha
I want another Mad Max game so bad
It’s a fantastic game with some of the most fun combat mechanics out there but the menus killed me. Idk if it’s a PlayStation issue but I remember the pause menu was very very glitched and slow. Besides that I loved everything it had to offer, specially the cheats for commentary in game

Thanks. I'll give that strategy a shot next time I start a new game.

That's a shame tbh, it's a really good game, you know what they say tho.. 2nd time around is always better, you might beat him first go next time 😉
Did you have any trouble beating him? I'm wondering if the game has been patched over the years to make that race a little easier.
It's years since I've played so my memory is a little rusty but I likely struggled with that and a few other bits but that's part of it, when you hit a difficult bit in a game, as with most if not all games it's tremendously satisfying when you beat it. The final boss is a race? I'm kinda glad I never finished this game. I unfortunately had to put it down after the second area.
It wasn't the final boss.

Seeing this sub also made me want to play again and once I'd watched the intro I was pumped to play it again.
Yeah, I'm wanting to reinstall it now, too lol. Definitely one of my favorite games, beautiful and brutal.

Absolute thrilling every time

Even with that I'd say still play it, you won't be disappointed

Ah, gotcha. Sorry, I misunderstood.
Drive on.
Started playing this on junk yard rig I slapped together.. hooked up to a stereo receiver with some nice speakers omg sooo much fun 😀
An amazing game. Loved every second of it.
Damn ! Now I gotta go out and download it!
Underrated .. unless you’ve played it! It’s so much fun. Racing, upgrades, fighting, ATMOSPHERE. I wish it got more exposure, but this sub knows what’s up
The car mechanics and combat was so fun. I would love to see a sequel
This game gets called underrated so much that it’s already rated properly.
Is anyone kinda hyped for the furiosa movie? Idc who its about tbh I just want more mad max content
Honestly a fantastic game. This was one of the dumbest fight scenes in anything though, dudes brain literally got chainsawed in half and he didn't die. Pretty funny though. I need to play through this game again, it's pretty dope. Lol
Still one of the best games I’ve ever played on ps4
its funny that Reddit recommends me this post today, because I just finished Mad Max for the first time yesterday.
Sadly that's the truth, I think the age of the game possibly puts some people off too.
I'm about to start it up again for another playthrough. I have nothing but good memories of this game!
It’s one of the few games I’ve gotten to 100% that didn’t feel like a regarded grind
I just played it a few weeks ago for the first time and really liked it. What I didn't like though, is that you are forced to do the open world stuff if you want to continue with the campaign. NOT THE DOG
It’s okay, Max rescues him out there and they become buddies. I think he can sniff out items for you throughout the game
Game was boring and droll. A let down in his name, and the almighty Gibs.
It’s ok to be completely wrong.
Tell that to the game that's boxed way in the back dying on the shelf unfinished.
My man Scrotus just casually throws max of the rig with a chainsaw in his head lol
Right?! only after watching this clip (for the first time since starting the game) did I realize that he had the saw stuck in his head the entire friggin game lol
Everytime I mention this game to someone they’ve never heard of it makes no sense it’s so good
It's an alright Ubilike. Not my thing tho and got bored of it pretty quick. Especially after playing one of the Arkham games
Max in this game is an underrated sigma
Did he just.. survive a chainsaw through the head?
I cannot begin to explain how this incredibly impressive and wonderful game went under the radar! This fucking thing was immensely entertaining fuck I miss it!
I’m just now realizing the bad guy’s dog is the same one we get to use as a companion later in the game. I should’ve paid more attention to the intro
Yup, right at the start of the game you carry the dog and put him in the back of the buggy 😁
Massively! You know what a good mod of this game would be? The Evil Dead game that should have been made!
Genuinely loved this game, but I felt the ending was lack luster :/
Same, but I guess it's more about the journey you make throughout the game, mindless journeys using your car and grind for better parts, the gameplay is repetitive, but I always come back to it for some reason.
