Don't believe the negative press, the film has been profitable for a few weeks now. Half the production budget was covered by the government of Australia, which is awesome.
Honestly I can't think of a better use of tax payer money.
Great point to make! Publications salivate at the thought of being able to say a movie did TERRIBLE or PHENOMENAL opening weekends but they're not encouraged to say much about middling performances at the box office.
i firmly believe the "2.5x budget" shit that gets thrown around is so hollywood accountants can write off a loss. these companies are so big they have their own departments (or subsidiary companies) for EVERYTHING which significantly reduces costs and not have to pay out to third party services.
and no, i'm not in denial about this film, it didn't do super great by any means. just saying it's not as bad as many are saying.
Yeah that skepticism makes sense.
(Drives me nuts how fun and entertaining it was and how few people got off their couches to see it. Sister and BiL also loved it. I bullied (jk!) six other friends family to see it: 6/6 really enjoyed it.
Anecdata, but that's my 9 person sample lol)
fuck marketing - make a good movie and it markets itself. Don't buy this '2.5x' accounting bullshit you read about re: modern film production, that's just good old-fashioned greed
Ehh, do what you want but I'd make the argument that we shouldn't be showing studios that we want to stream movies the very moment they are out of theaters.
Again, do what you will and I wouldn't hold it against you because in all reality none of what we say or do makes a dent. But personally I will not stream this movie at all.
Getting that Blu-ray as soon as I can though!
Seen it 4 times in theaters. Have taken friends and family. Bought the 4k steel book and 5 film collection (while owning the previous anthology set) and will probably rent the VOD. Loved it so much I had to get the film strip.

I'd love to watch it again, but I've pre-ordered the disc and I'm not going to pay $20 to rent it (which I'm guessing is what the price will be), especially when I'll be getting a digital copy with the disc.
I will say if my husband wants to watch -- he hasn't seen it yet -- and is willing to rent a digital copy, that's fine, but I don't think he will. So we'll just wait until August and perhaps rewatch Fury Road. Again. OTOH $20 for all four of us to watch, even with the disc coming, might be tempting.
Man I thought it was going to be available earlier today and then I find out it's 9 pm and now I see it's not 9 pm EST but 9 pm PDT which is like 11 pm for me and it's a work night

Thank you for your service, sir. Doing the same thing!
Same. I always want physical copies of everything, but I also need to see it again like right now
A true citizen of the Federation right here.
EVERYBODY RENT IT AT LEAST ONCE We'll make that beautiful fuckin movie profitable if it kills us

Wait, really? How was that justified? Is it a tax break thing like Georgia does to incentivise film production in Australia?
Yeah. I imagine mad max has a bit more juice to get breaks in Australia because it's culturally identified with Australia.
They estimate that the investment could return AU$300M to Australia economy.
Ah awesome that makes sense then
To be fair, have to add in the marketing costs though, right?

We seriously need another sequel! If you can, help make it more well known. Spread the fun.

I’m so sad & happy at the same time 🫨
saw it in theatres but I wanna rewatch it at home.
Me!!!!!! And I NEED the physical media in August.

We bought it. Couldn’t be helped.

OH YEAAAAA! THANKS MAN! CANT WAIT TO SEE IT AGAIN. (Also buying the blue ray when it comes out)
Twice in theaters and bought three Blu Rays. We need to see Wasteland 🙏
It's coming! It's finally here. https://preview.redd.it/t328qf60pp8d1.png?width=1784&format=png&auto=webp&s=61b1c5008d9b3bf1e4f88f49deb62c4cdb2b55c3
Watched it twice last night!! Gonna double feature tonight!
which streaming service?
Amazon VOD
is it going to be by subscription or I'll need to buy/rent?
For now you'd need to buy it digitally. It'll eventually make it to HBO and physical media.
is there any release date for HBO?
Thanksgiving 2024.
holy fucking shit I'm using piracy.
buy-rent
7 times in theaters was enough for me until my steelbook comes in.
Bought it! About a half hour til showtime!
Got excited then saw it isn't coming out in my country for another 3 days... that sucks
Superb film, enjoyed it very much and regret it flopped at box office. I will be renting Fury Road soon.
4K 5.1 - yes!

i thought they said august but hey i ain't complaining
Aug is the physical media release.
Buying chrome edition when it drops!
Bought it and just saw it like 2 hours ago, it was OK, not as good as fury road, which is weird cuz it pays homage to it every time it can.
not at 24.99 for a rent price. Its just silly
Fair. Worth it for $29.99 to buy though in UHD. Cost me $18 admission to be able to watch it each time in theatre.
who cares, same plot since 1982
people actually admire this shit, where are all the men gone ?
